GERMAN NUMBERS 0-31 POSTERS FLASHCARDS

GERMAN NUMBERS 0-31 DISPLAY POSTERS FLASHCARDS These German numbers display posters / flashcards create an instant introduction to Numbers 0-31 in German, also giving the learning environment fabulous German look and feel. I’ve found that having new and high-frequency language displays also helps promote German as a living language, featuring in the everyday life of German learners. The posters help students familiarize themselves with how German words ‘look’, and how sounds are represented in the written form. The font is big enough for students to read in various locations in the classroom - I find this really important so that we can get the most out of any particular display - for example we use them for spelling and mental calculation games at certain points in the lesson. There are two backgrounds to choose from - German flag or black wave. Laminate or print on card stock - I always do this with my displays - they hang a lot better, and I recycle them for many years. PRIMARY FRENCH DISPLAY WORD WALL DAYS MONTHS SEASONS This Primary French word wall display creates an instant introduction to the days of the week and the months and seasons of the year in French, and really brightens up the learning environment too. I like to share essential vocab that we can use in everyday language with my young learners from the beginning of their learning. We use them not only when we’re introducing and practising days, months and seasons, but also for developing French language skills and awareness in general. We talk a lot about the similarities and differences in the different languages, such as the use of capital letters, and we look very closely for cognates too. There are two cards per 8.5 x 11 (A4) page in landscape format - the words are definitely big enough for children to be able to read - we do lots of guessing, spelling and vocab games for example. There are two backgrounds to choose from - French flag or black wave. I definitely recommend that you print on card stock and/or laminate for longevity - you’ll be able to enjoy your PRIMARY FRENCH DAYS MONTHS AND SEASONS WORD WALL for years to come! PRIMARY LATIN FRUITS WORD WALL

PRIMARY LATIN FRUITS WORD WALL My word wall cards are really popular with my younger learners - they create an instant introduction to scrumptious fruits in Latin, and generally give our learning environment a Latin look and feel every day, really bringing the language to life. There are 20 fruits - we don’t actually have all 20 fruits in our learning plan, we use them for developing language skills and awareness in general. I’ve included a selection of genders, including a common gender. I’ve also included several plurals too - this is so useful for beginning discussions about patterns in the formation of plurals. We talk a lot aboutsimilarities and differences in language, for example the lack of the ‘the’ word, and identify cognates and near cognates. We discuss fruits we know and like, and fruits we’d like to try (fig is a particular favourite!). The fruits are: = red apple / red apples = banana / bananas = cherries = dates = fig = purple/red grapes = lemon = mango / mangoes = olive / olives = orange / oranges = papaya / papayas = peach / peaches = pear / pears = pineapple / pineapples = pumpkin / pumpkins = raspberry / raspberries = redcurrants = rhubarb = strawberry / strawberries = watermelon There are two cards per 8.5 x 11 (A4) page in landscape format - the words are definitely big enough for children to be able to read from various locations in the classroom, so that we can really make the most of the word wall as a learning resource - for example, we do lots of guessing, spelling and vocab race games, usually with mini-whiteboards or notepads - students love these games! There are two backgrounds to choose from, purple/lilac and black wave. I always laminate or print on card stock - if you can, I’d definitely recommend that you do the same - you’ll be able to enjoy your LATIN FRUITS word wall for years to come! Have a look at this free-to-download Latin Numbers & Roman Numerals Word Wall - it’s the same design as the fruit word wall, so that you can see if it would suit your classroom: PRIMARY LATIN NUMBERS & ROMAN NUMERALS WORD WALL https://www.tes.com/teaching-resource/primary-latin-numbers-and-roman-numerals-1-20-word-wall-12100107 The product is non-editable in a zipped format. GERMAN VERBS BOOK #2

GERMAN VERBS BOOK #2

(0)
GCSE GERMAN KS4 GERMAN KS5 GERMAN VERBS 500 high-frequency German verbs, listed alphabetically German-English - a great learning support resource for KS4 German moving into advanced German A Level learners, and can also be given to KS3 German students, providing verb audit tool, and a language road map with learning goals, outlining the verbs they should ideally know by a specific stage in their learning. I create a lot of language learning reference books for my languages students, they’re really popular with my students, who like to have a bank of reference resources for both initial learning and longer-term revision. There are 22 pages in the book, and all 500 verbs are listed alphabetically German-English. Each German verb is indicated by irr; sein; sep for example, to denote irregular, conjugated with sein, separable. I use the reference book for quick vocabulary quizzes too - either I or a nominated student shouts out a German or English verb, with teams giving the corresponding German or English verb - I’ve found this is a really successful way of avoiding more formal vocabulary tests, while still providing students with frequent opportunity to refresh and embed essential German vocabulary. For UK teachers, these are roughly GCSE / Standard / age 16 examinations moving into advanced level, all examination boards (AQA, Edexcel, Eduqas, SQA). We use the Notes and Next Steps template to think about progress and vocabulary knowledge. Students find this really useful, and do like to map and track their own progress. It can be helpful in guiding and informing whole-group discussion about learning and progress in general, which is a really useful learning activity too - students also note down any new German verbs they learn, enabling them to build a really comprehensive verb vocabulary reference resource. The verbs are useful for engaging with the following topics and themes: youth, identity & lifestyle fashion culture, customs and traditions relationships and family technology and social media sport, health and fitness free time, hobbies and interests entertainment and leisure food and drink Germany and German-speaking countries local, national & international global areas of interest transport holidays, tourism and travel environment, pollution, recycling and climate social issues school, college, current and future study work experience, skills and personal qualities employment, ambitions and career plans Files are non-editable in a zipped format. The license for purchase is a single-user license only. Please read the Terms of Use carefully. I find it useful to remind students of a number of things when focusing on or revising tense and verb conjugation. For example with the perfect tense, students need to have a good grasp of the relevant auxiliary in the present tense - there are verbs that require either haben or sein, so the focus on the auxiliary sein with this workbook helps to embed this concept, and to get used to ensuring that the past participle is situated at the end of the clause or sentence. Forming the past participle of a whole range of verb groups follows a certain pattern, which students are able to identify and predict the more they work with conjugation, and these quick conjugations will certainly help to embed that successfully. The format is as follows: Two alphabetical verb reference lists: German-English and English-German. Three conjugation challenges, each with 50 individual conjugations: = Quick Conjugation Challenge 1: each verb conjugated in German across a range of pronouns, with students writing the corresponding English verb conjugation. = Quick Conjugation Challenge 2: gives the infinitive of each verb in German, specifying the target pronoun. GERMAN SEPARABLE VERBS IMPERFECT TENSE

(3)
GCSE GERMAN KS3 GERMAN KS4 GERMAN IMPERFECT TENSE CONJUGATION PRACTICE 25 high-frequency German separable verbs in the imperfect tense, 3 differentiated conjugation challenges, 150 quick conjugations, answer key and verb lists ideal for advanced KS3 German and KS4 German students who are developing their knowledge and understanding of conjugation in German, and working with notion of past tense in German. I do tend to introduce the perfect tense and imperfect tense fairly closely together, as usage of the tenses is not directly equivalent with English for example, particularly in spoken German, and it’s really useful to be able to compare and contrast tenses. The focus is on common separable prefixes such as ab, an, aus, ein, um and zu. Prefixes such as***entlang and entgegen*** are not included in this particular collection of verbs. The resource has the following structure: Two alphabetical verb reference lists: German-English and English-German. Three conjugation challenges, each with 50 individual conjugations: Conjugation Challenge 1: each verb conjugated in German across a range of pronouns, with students writing the corresponding English verb conjugation. Conjugation Challenge 2: gives the infinitive of each verb in German, specifying the target pronoun. Students write the corresponding verb conjugation in German. Conjugation Challenge 3: students write the corresponding German verb conjugation, and its infinitive, from an English prompt. Notes and Next Steps sheet, which encourages students to think about how their understanding of German conjugation works, what progress they have made, what their targets for improvement might realistically be, and what they might reasonably do in order to meet those targets. Students also note down any new verbs they discover, which enables them to build up a really sound verb vocabulary bank. answer key Try this free sampler to see whether this kind of activity would work well for your students: GERMAN CONJUGATION PRACTICE FREE SAMPLER https://www.tes.com/teaching-resource/german-conjugation-practice-sampler-12154187 Have a browse in my store for more German grammar activities, and a wide range of other German teaching and learning resources, with special offer bundles and lots of freebies too! There are 99 common German verbs in the infinitive form, along with the corresponding English verbs. Students can work happily challenging themselves and each other to create a perfect domino bilingual verb sequence, on the classroom floor, or on a long(ish) table, by matching the German and English verbs. The game has a bonus multi-focus on listening, speaking, pronunciation, and reading, and also helps students identify cognates and words that may look similar to English, but mean something different. There are three games, each with a different level of challenge: Challenge One features the verbs in alphabetical order, German to English Challenge Two features the verbs in random order, also German to English Challenge Three again features the verbs in random order, but this time from English to German, which works a little different in terms of vocab recall There’s a full alphabetical German-English verb list, which students find really useful as they begin to build and embed their verb vocabulary - we find it useful to have a quick look through the list prior to playing for the first time, and it’s also really good for some additional whole-group pronunciation practice. Each challenge is on a different background, so that they can be easily identified. To ensure successful learning, play regularly as you work with verbs and vocabulary - against a timer in teams works well to map both improved recall and word recognition, as well as increasing confidence - students genuinely enjoy seeing if they can beat their own time record. Dominoes games work really well in language learning as a free-choice activity - I have folders of resources for students to select their own activity, according to what they feel they would most like to revisit. We have free-choice activity time every few lessons for a half hour or so, which also provides a welcome break from the particular target focus. There’s definitely prep involved - printing and cutting out. I always laminate my dominoes games, as they’re far more learner-friendly, and they last for absolutely years, so once you’re prepped the set or several sets, you will never have to prep the games again. PRIMARY SPANISH TELLING THE TIME DOMINOES KS3 SPANISH TELLING THE TIME DOMINOES ANALOGUE CLOCK TIMES Files are non-editable in a zipped format. This resource is copyright, all rights reserved. It may not be copied, rewritten, shared or distributed outside your own classroom in any way. The license for purchase is a single-user license only. Please read the Terms of Use. Dominoes games are an ideal language learning activity, and a lively alternative to more traditional practice and consolidation activities. These games will help students build up and embed their knowledge of how to tell the time in Spanish in a cooperative, communicative and interactive way, independently of the teacher. Students can work happily challenging themselves and each other to create a perfect domino time sequence line. The game has a bonus multi-focus on listening, speaking, pronunciation, and reading. There are three games, each with a slightly different level of challenge: Challenge One features a range of clock times,o’clock, half past, quarter to and quarter past the hour - students tend to learn those clock times first, so it’s good to have a real focus on them to ensure students are confident with the general concept of telling the time in Spanish. I’ve used en punto to express o’clock, but I point out to students that it’s not absolutely necessary, and they’ll see Es la una for example, perhaps even more frequently than Es la una en punto, which tends to convey a certain emphasis. The time phrase appears first, followed by the clock face. Challenge Two features a range of all analogue clock times, and is a slightly longer game than Challenge One. Again, the time phrase appears first, followed by the clock face. Challenge Three also features a range of analogue clock times, and is the same size as Challenge Two. In this challenge, the clock face appears first, followed by the time phrase, which works slightly differently on recall, and really does help to consolidate knowledge. There’s definitely prep involved - download, print out, and laminate. Laminating is definitely worth the extra time and expense, because the dominoes are far more learner-friendly, and will last in excellent condition for years. The background design on each challenge is different, allowing students to identify which challenge the individual dominoes belong to. PRIMARY FRENCH ANIMALS BINGO 120 DIFFERENTIATED BINGO GRIDS WITH SILENT BINGO CALLING - IDEAL FOR HIGH SCHOOL BEGINNER FRENCH TOO! I created these differentiated Primary French animals bingo games, building in a range of challenges, to help my students engage happily with their French. They work just as well with older learners too! They really enjoy playing games, and these bingo games are perfect for developing listening, speaking, reading and writing/spelling skills. They’re also really useful for a focus on definite article and gender. The game isn’t actually about learning all the animals - 20 is too many in ‘one go’ - select your core vocab, with the additional animals useful for quick recall practice. There are 20 animals: the mouse the horse the dog the cat the crocodile the bird the fish the frog the pig the cow the tortoise/turtle the tiger the elephant the giraffe the lion the rabbit the monkey the chicken the spider the zebra There are 21 non-editable files: 40 picture-only bingo 12-square grids, 4 per page (10 pages), in both colour and B&W. There are also 40 French word-only bingo 12-square grids, 4 per page (10 pages). For additional challenge there are 40 English word-only bingo 12-square grids, 4 per page (10 pages) - this is a great way of consolidating vocab too. My students like to create their own word or picture grids for each other, so I’ve also included 4 12-square grid templates. I developed SILENT BINGO to provide my students with an alternative way of practising their vocab and general language skills - select a grid type for students - picture-only, French word or English word. Using the SILENT BINGO files, show each slide at varying speeds. Students cross off the corresponding word or picture. There are 5 different games of each type: picture-only, French words, English words.
