FRENCH EASTER BUNNY ANIMALS GAMES CARDS are perfect for young learners of FRENCH. They provide lots of opportunities to learn a range of animals, both masculine and feminine, and really do help to create a lively language learning environment. TIMES TABLES MATHS FOR EARLY YEARS PRIMARY MATHS Multiplication tables 1-6 cards, with matching question and answer cards.
I've used these in school and for homeschooling too. Children really enjoy sorting out the cards, on a large table (and often on the floor!) and working independently, either alone, in pairs or in small groups. I always give children a reference mat - it's a great way of ensuring everyone can enjoy the games, and lets them check their answers too. I've numbered the question cards, which helps children track their answer when they're looking at the reference mat.
My Monster Maths cards are a firm favourite (in French and Spanish too!) with young learners - they find the visual aspect really engaging, which is such an important element to helping them engage with the content happily and with confidence. They are ideal for small-group and intervention work.
I always laminate learning cards and reference mats, because they're so much easier to work with - and they last for years! I've uploaded a black and white version too, which can really help to keep costs down.

These Numbers 0-20 addition and subtraction Christmas games cards are great for developing numeracy skills. I’ve found that Christmas lessons are the perfect time to
revisit learning from earlier in the school year. Children are generally really happy to work together in a cooperative, communicative and collaborative way, at their own pace,
independently of the teacher. The cards are great for games at home too!
There are 72 calculations in total - 36 addition and 36 subtraction. The answer cards are marked with a plus or minus sign. This means that there are 144 cards in total - it’s quite a bit of prep, but do laminate them if you can, as they are far more user-friendly, and also
last for many Christmastimes!

Ideal for young and beginner Spanish learners. I like to give my language learners comprehensive core vocabulary books and reference resources. They enable them to work more independently, both in class and at home. This Spanish Telling the Time Reference Book has 14 pages, and features every analogue clock time in Spanish. There’s a My Notes page too - I encourage students to make notes on their progress, and think about how they are progressing. We also use this to inform and guide whole-group discussion about learning and progress in general, which is a really popular and effective activity too.
I like to give visual vocabulary guides to my young beginner language learners, as they can generally more easily assimilate new language and vocabulary when they are able to link it in their memory with a visual image. It’s particularly important to match a clock time with the corresponding clock face when learning how to tell time. Students file the guides in their Spanish vocabulary folders with other vocabulary guides, which gives them an accessible and useful Spanish vocabulary reference bank for both class and home learning.
For young and / or beginner Spanish learners, I focus initially on a single time set, because in my experience students benefit from a very clear outline of new language and vocabulary, avoiding lots of text on a single page - even my older students who are completely new to Spanish prefer this. When I’m sure that students are confident with o’clock, I then move on to additional time sets.

These English present tense task cards focus on the use of the present simple and present continuous / progressive tense in English. The language level is advanced beginner English into intermediate English. These kinds of question card activities are perfect for language learners, really helping to create a lively language learning environment. Students can develop, embed, reinforce and refresh their developing knowledge of two key forms of the present tense in English in a cooperative, communicative and interactive way, independently of the teacher.
The cards have a bonus multi-skill focus on listening, speaking, pronunciation, reading and spelling in English. Laminate the cards if you can, even though it’s extra prep and expense, as they are far-more learner-friendly, and last for years, so it’s definitely worth it. I have a set with decks on different colour paper: although it can reduce challenge in games, for absolute beginners it’s very useful, and also ensures learners with additional needs have extra support so that they can participate fully in the games and activities. Remember to vary the decks in the games to ensure maximum differentiation and challenge.

PRIMARY LATIN NUMBERS 1-10 AND GREAT FOR YEAR 7 LATIN TOO
10 differentiated word searches focusing on LATIN NUMBERS 1-10. They’re great for independent learning - I just give my students free choice to choose the level of challenge, making sure that over time, everyone really does challenge themselves! I always give answer keys too - they give students a further opportunity to practise their numbers, and to both self and peer assess. Students at this age are developing learning skills in general, as well as learning Latin, and I’ve found that this particular design of grid and challenge level, works really well as an all-round learning resource.
Word searches sometimes get bad press for being too easy, and with little learning value, but I disagree, and my students love the ones I design for them. I always build in differentiation, with each grid increasing in challenge - the grids are really inclusive, challenging all learners.
There are 5 LATIN-LATIN grids - the prompt words are in Latin, and the grid words are also in Latin. Each grid is progressively more challenging. There are also 5 ENGLISH-LATIN grids - the prompt word is in English, and students have to find the Latin equivalent in the grid. On each grid there’s a number list they have to complete too for extra practice. Each grid is on 8.5 x 11 (A4) landscape format - this format has always worked best for my beginner Latin learners.

The workbook focuses on the correct conjugation of verbs, rather than usage, but I definitely find it useful to remind students of a number of things when focusing on or revising tense and verb conjugation. Language learners tend to conflate what they know about grammar in their first language with the grammar of the language they are learning. For example, students with English as a first language frequently confuse the preterite tense with the imperfect tense when they are conjugating them, as well as when and how to use either tense.

I encourage students to look for patterns across all the verbs, such as the formal Lei form being identical to the conjugation of singular pronouns. The workbook focuses on the mechanics of conjugation, rather than usage, but I find it useful to remind students of a number of things when focusing on or revising tense and verb conjugation. For example, students whose first language is English do often try to conflate what they know about conjugation in both languages, and I frequently see attempts such as io sto lavorare for I am working or similarly io faccio lavorare for I do work. I refer frequently the difference in usage, and this is important particularly when explaining when and in which contexts to use the simple present and the continuous / progressive present tense. The Challenge One Answer Key has both simple present and continuous present tense to help embed this notion a little more.

The workbook focuses on the correct conjugation of verbs, rather than usage, but I definitely find it useful to remind students of a number of things when focusing on or revising tense and verb conjugation. For example, with the Spanish present tense, I encourage students to look for patterns across all the verbs, such as the singular pronouns, including for example the singular formal pronoun Usted form being identical, which is fairly standard, but the conjugation of the formal singular Usted does frequently lead to errors at this stage of learning.

My students really like this kind of grammar activity, as they like to work and learn independently, which is a successful way of varying teaching and learning methodologies - I’ve found it’s really important to avoid predominantly teacher-led learning in the languages classroom. There are 150 conjugations across 3 differentiated conjugation challenges. I use these kinds of workbooks in lots of different ways: for practice during the introduction phase, for independent choice in class time, for home learning, for practice and revision during vacation and at return to class, and for cover lessons - they’re really versatile, and ideal for KS3 Italian students who are getting to grips with conjugation in Italian, and building their Italian verb vocabulary.
Though the workbook focuses solely on the correct conjugation of verbs, and does not look at word order in the context of full sentences, there are conjugation patterns that students can learn, recognise and apply, ensuring that their spoken and written Italian is accurate, and that their understanding of Italian across the skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing is robust.

It’s actually really useful to introduce the pluperfect tense in German fairly closely with the perfect tense, as the patterns are identical, other than the auxiliary tense, and it allows students to compare and contrast the tenses, and to practice both fairly simultaneously - in my experience, students do not confuse or mix up the tenses when they’re learning and using them together.

PRIMARY SPANISH KS3 FRUITS CLASSROOM DISPLAY POSTERS My younger students love to see Spanish displays in the classroom, and they also work really well for older beginner Spanish learners too. There are25 fruits, definite article, feminine and masculine, singular and plural - that’s so useful as a way into the concept of gender.
I tend to vary my displays quite regularly, and have different posters up at various times of the school year. We use them as speaking and pronunciation prompts, and for guessing, vocab and spelling games too. We don’t actually learn 25 fruits at this stage, but I use a range that includes some that children may not know yet, such as starfruit and redcurrants. That’s ideal for discussing healthy eating, and for generally developing children’s vocabulary in their own language too. The posters work really well as flashcards too, and they’re great for introducing and practicing language with a ‘low-tech’ method, giving us all a break from the whiteboard, which children definitely enjoy!
