GERMAN TELLING THE TIME WORD WALL O'CLOCK & HALF PAST

PRIMARY GERMAN KS3 GERMAN BEGINNER GERMAN TELLING THE TIME O’CLOCK & HALF PAST WORD WALL Files are non-editable in a zipped format. The product is copyright, all rights reserved. It may not be copied, rewritten, amended, shared or distributed outside your own classroom in any way. The license for purchase is a single-user license only. Please read the Terms of Use. An instant introduction to telling the time in German. This set features analogue clock times, o’clock and half past the hour. I like to introduce telling the time as soon as possible in my German learning programmes, as it lends itself really well to promoting speaking in the classroom, talking about daily routines for example. The word wall is useful not only during the introductory phase, but also during the practice and consolidation phase, ensuring that key language is always visible and accessible to learners. This is particularly important when working with half past the hour in German, which students of all grades tend to find challenging. It’s important not to move ahead with time phrases too quickly, and I make sure that students are fully confident with a time set before introducing a new one. We talk a lot about the similarities and differences in how we tell the time in the different languages too, and I’ve found that very young learners actually develop their confidence in telling time in their first language. I do vary my word wall displays on a regular basis, as they’re great as revision tools too, and this also prevents learning displays becoming ‘invisible’ to students. There are two cards per 8.5 x 11 (A4) page in landscape format, which facilitates a sufficiently large font size that can be seen from various locations in the classroom. There are two headers in the set: Die Uhrzeit and Wie spät ist es? Creating new headers, such as Wie viel Uhr ist es? is a really popular activity too. There are two backgrounds to choose from: German flag, which looks really good for German vocabulary / key language display, or black wave. If you can, laminate the word wall cards, as they hang really well, and last in excellent condition for years, meaning you can recycle the same word wall for a long time. LATIN VERBS CARDS 1

LATIN GRAMMAR LATIN VERBS LATIN VOCABULARY **PERFECT FOR DEVELOPING LATIN LANGUAGE SKILLS AS WELL AS PRACTISING AND REVISING 99 ESSENTIAL LATIN VERBS! ** This set of games and activities featuring 99 high-frequency Latin verbs offers an interactive and communicative alternative to ‘traditional’ vocabulary and grammar drilling activities, and really does help to create a lively and multi-skill language learning environment. The Latin-English alphabetical reference list of all 99 verbs in the infinitive form, with the first person singular conjugated, works well as a learning support resource. The cards are versatile, and can be used for a number of language learning games; I’ve described several games you can play and ways you can use them in the classroom. They’re great for a ready-made quick vocab quiz too! The game card template lets your students put their knowledge of Latin verbs to the test as they create cards for each other - preferably from memory! There are 198 matching Latin and English verb cards - it’s a lot of prep, particularly if you laminate them - but it’s definitely worth the effort, as they last for years, and are very popular with students across the entire school year. The Reference, Recall and Write workbook has 18 pages, and is best photocopied double-sided, and double-stapled in workbook format for students to work through either in direct class time, or as independent learning at home. I encourage my students to complete the NOTES AND NEXT STEPS TEMPLATE regularly to help them reflect on their learning, and to set progress targets. We also use this to guide and inform whole-group discussion about learning and progress in general, which is also a really useful activity. There are 3 differentiated recall and write challenges: Recall Challenge One Students recall and write all the verbs in English from a Latin prompt - the Latin verbs are in alphabetical order Recall Challenge Two Students recall and write all the verbs in English from a Latin prompt, with the verbs appearing in random, rather than alphabetical order Recall Challenge Three Students recall and write all the verbs, including the conjugation of the first person singular, in Latin from an English prompt. The cards have a bonus multi-skill focus on listening, speaking, pronunciation, reading and spelling, and really help students develop more independence in their learning, moving away from more teacher-led tasks and activities. There’s also a question card template for students to apply language creatively and practically, which is an essential aspect of successful language learning, and is also a really popular activity with my students. There’s definitely a UK theme running through many of the questions, featuring questions about fish and chips and the Loch Ness Monster for example. The resource comprises the following non-editable files in a zipped format: 36 differentiated question cards 4 per A4 (8.5 x 11) paper. Print, laminate and cut out. Laminating is definitely worth the extra prep time and expense, as they cards are far more learner-friendly, and last for absolutely years. answer recording sheet we mostly use class notebooks for recording answers, as this saves prep time and paper, though recording sheets are really useful for more formal assessment purposes. answer key laminate if you can, and distribute in class - one answer key for each small group is sufficient. I always give answer keys for task cards, however young the learner - they really help them develop more independence in, and responsibility for, their learning, and also give them an additional opportunity to engage with language. question card template for students to apply their knowledge practically and creatively, which is an essential element in successful language learning, and is a really popular activity too. number reference sheet which students really useful as a learning support resource - it’s great as a year-round resource too, which they can put into their learning binders to call upon whenever they need it. CHRISTMAS WORD SEARCHES

CHRISTMAS WORD SEARCHES WITH ANSWER KEYS, GRID TEMPLATES & CHRISTMAS VOCABULARY LIST Word searches a fabulous way of encouraging learners to engage with the written word, practicing and reinforcing language as they complete the grids. This resource combines two sets of Christmas word searches, with Set 1 designed more for KS2, and Set 1 for KS1 - of course, it depends on your learners, and what stage they are currently at in their learning. Christmas Word Searches #1 The set features ten differentiated word searches, focusing on a wide range of Christmas vocabulary, with each consecutive grid increasing in challenge. There are 48 Christmas words featured, which is a great way of stimulating discussion about cultural, religious and national traditions and practices. There are some religious words in the searches, such as Nativity and Three Kings/Wise Men. The searches offer a really useful learning opportunity - consolidating not only new words and vocabulary, but also working on reading, writing, spelling and English Language skills in general. Learners are able to identify which direction words are located in within the grid by referring to the arrow key. There are also four question and answer key grid templates for learners to create their own searches for each other - this is a really popular activity, and I’ve found that my learners often like to create grids for family at home too. The templates enable learners to apply language practically and creatively, which is really important at this stage of language development. There is a single grid per 8.5 x 11 (A4) sheet, portrait format. There is also an answer key for each word search. Christmas Word Searches #2 This set features five differentiated word searches, again with each consecutive grid increasing in challenge. Learners are able to identify which direction words are located in within the grid by referring to the arrow key. For additional consolidation, they also rewrite each word in the word column. There are also five question and answer key grid templates . Encourage learners to include other Christmas words that aren’t included in the grids. We also discuss Christmas traditions and practices in our home and other countries, and this gives an additional opportunity to add words and phrases they can use in their own word searches. These word searches are in landscape format, mirroring the direction of reading and writing in English from left to right, facilitating learner engagement with the activity. There is a single grid per 8.5 x 11 (A4) sheet. The resource is non-editable in a zipped format. It is copyright, all rights reserved. GERMAN BREAKFAST WORD WALL

(0)
PRIMARY GERMAN KS3 GERMAN BEGINNER GERMAN BREAKFAST WORD WALL Deutsch für Kinder Das Frühstück Word Wall 18 scrumptious breakfast items. Displaying key vocabulary in the German classroom is a really simple and successful way of creating a German ambiance, showing***language in its real-world use***, and keeping language fresh in students’ minds, particularly in the introductory phase of that particular vocabulary set. There are 18 breakfast items in this word wall, though I may not actually have all the items in my learning plan. I tend to include additional language to help students develop language skills and awareness in general. There is implicit grammatical input, with a focus on the definite article in German, a range of masculine, feminine and neuter, singular and plural. We look at cognates and near-cognates, and talk about similarities and differences between the words in German and English. We discuss breakfast in general, what we like to eat, or we’d like to try. In this way, the word wall becomes a real learning tool, and not simply attractive classroom decor. The breakfast items are: bacon : yoghurt : cup of coffee : cereal : jam : pancakes : croissant : waffles porridge : orange juice : milk : boiled egg & boiled eggs (useful for looking at singular/plural differences) : fried egg : toast : bread rolls : syrup : tea There are two headers: Guten Appetit! and Das Frühstück. Students enjoy creating their own headers too, as well as adding to the number of breakfast items as they develop their German vocabulary. There are two cards per 8.5 x 11 (A4) page in landscape format, which ensures the words are big enough for students to be able to read from various locations in the classroom. There are two backgrounds to choose from - German flag or black wave. I always print my word walls on robust card stock and/or laminate, because they hang really well, and last in excellent condition for years, meaning I can keep recycling them, keeping prep and expense to a minimum. PRIMARY LATIN FRUITS BINGO

PRIMARY LATIN FRUITS BINGO LATIN FRUITS BINGO GAMES 100 DIFFERENTIATED BINGO GRIDS AND 40 CALLING CARDS Bingo games are perfect for language learning, and they’re really easy to differentiate. All my students, regardless of age, find playing the games a great way of consolidating their vocab, and developing their Latin language skills in general - bingo is absolutely perfect for speaking, listening, reading and writing/spelling. In this set I’ve included 100 differentiated bingo grids and 40 calling cards - 20 in Latin, and 20 in English - I always play with English calling cards too, as I’ve found it’s a really great way of further consolidating vocab - students have to focus carefully on the language ‘switch’! It’s definitely useful to have calling cards, so that you can keep track of what you’re calling out, and it also lets students be the bingo master or mistress too, meaning they can play quite independently. There are twelve Latin fruits in masculine, feminine, neuter, singular & plural: the apple the lemon the oranges the peach the raspberries the pineapple the olive the pear the bananas the grapes the strawberry the watermelon I differentiate my bingo games by using picture-only cards, which are great for general vocab consolidation and listening skills. There are 40 9-square grids in total, and there’s a set of color (which I sometimes laminate so that I can just get them out whenever I need to - make sure students have wipe-clean pens on their tables!). I’ve also included the same grids in black and white - simply print these out. I sometimes give out pages with four grids on, and let students choose which order they play the grids in - they have multiple pages - or sometimes, I get the students to cut out the grids, place them in a small bowl or similar on tables and they then randomly choose grids - depending on the size of your class, you will definitely have several winners per game! The grids are designed for all the squares to be crossed off in order to win the game. I also use word-only grids to help students focus more on their reading skills, so I’ve included 40 Latin word-only 9-square grids, 4 per page (10 pages). The mixed word and picture grids are ideal for additional challenge and differentiated - there are 20 of these. There are six non-editable files in a zipped format. PRIMARY LATIN ANIMALS FLASHCARDS POSTERS

(0)
PRIMARY LATIN KS3 LATIN ANIMALS FLASHCARDS POSTERS These Latin animals flashcards / display posters create a fabulous Latin look and feel in the learning environment. I’ve found that this also helps promote Latin as a real language, featuring in the everyday life of beginner learners of Latin. They introduce learners to a range of animals in Latin from the very beginning of their learning, and they are able to familiarise themselves with how Latin words ‘look’, and how they are represented in the written form. My younger Latin students really love the animals flashcards / posters, and when we look for cognates and near-cognates, they really like to compare the Latin and English words. I’ve found that they also help very young children develop their growing understanding of the animal kingdom. Use them as flashcards to introduce and practice language too - it’s a traditional and successful low-tech teaching method, which gives students a welcome break from the whiteboard - varying teaching methodologies in the language learning classroom is always a good idea, and I also encourage my students to take the role of the teacher too, which they find really motivating. There are 20 masculine, feminine and neuter animals. I’ve chosen a couple of insects and birds, as well as animals that feature in very popular stories, such as ursus and lupus. Looking at language, and the ways it works, either similarly to, or differently from their first language, helps learners become implicitly aware of linguistic concepts in both languages, which I’ve found to be really useful for both current and later learning. The animals are: ***bear : bee : bird : butterfly : cat : dog : fish : fox : frog : horse : kangaroo : monkey : mouse : owl : parrot : rabbit : spider : squirrel : turtle / tortoise : wolf *** There are two sets of 20 9.5x11 (A4) portrait posters: one with a colour background, the second with an animal footprint background, so 40 posters in total. I always laminate my posters / flashcards as they hang a lot better, are easier to manipulate as flashcards, and definitely last for years! Have a browse in my store for more Latin flashcards / classroom display, and a wide range of other Latin teaching and learning materials, with special offer bundles, resource boxes, and lots of freebies too! PRIMARY FRENCH HALLOWEEN NUMBERS 0-20 GAMES CARDS

(0)
Primary French FSL French Immersion These French Numbers 0-20 Halloween games cards are great for practising numbers in French with a focus on addition and subtraction - they also offer a really useful opportunity for multi-skill and cross-curricular learning. Children can develop their skills in word recognition and recall, pronunciation, speaking, listening and reading in a cooperative, communicative and interactive way, independently of the teacher. My younger learners really love to work with the cards, and we play as often as we can in the run-up to Halloween. There are lots of games they like to play, and I’ve described several of them in the resource file. I always do a quick warm-up and recap of numbers before we play any number games, and the simple forwards and backwards counting presentation is ideal for this. There are 72 calculations in total - 36 addition and 36 subtraction. The answer cards are marked with a plus or minus sign. This means that there are 144 cards in total - it’s quite a bit of prep, but do laminate them if you can, as they are far more user-friendly, and also last for many Halloweens! ENGLISH DATES DAYS MONTHS SEASONS TASK CARDS

ESL EFL ENGLISH DATES DAYS MONTHS SEASONS TASK CARDS are perfect for advanced beginner English to intermediate English students, and really do help to create a lively language learning environment. Students can develop, embed, reinforce and refresh their knowledge of this essential English language in a cooperative, communicative and interactive way, independently of the teacher. They have a bonus multi-skill focus on listening, speaking, pronunciation, reading and spelling. They’re great for helping students familiarize themselves with, and develop competence in, speaking, reading, writing and spelling in English in general, and certainly in English dates, days, months and seasons in particular. The questions range in complexity and challenge, and some call upon prior knowledge too, helping students make links and build bridges in their learning. There may be some words students are not familiar with - these questions give them the opportunity to learn and apply new language too. There is a significant amount of practice and consolidation of language and grammar, such as word order, punctuation, nuances of spoken versus written language, tense, and ordinal / cardinal numbers. This maximizes the learning potential of the activity, which I take further when we look at multiple choice questions seeking to identify errors - being able to identify errors, and explain what is inaccurate, is a really important language learning skill, and really helps students progress in their learning. The question card template enables students to apply their knowledge of language creatively and practically too - my students really enjoy creating questions for each other. The resource comprises the following non-editable files: 36 differentaited question cards, 4 per A4 (8.5 x 11) paper answer recording sheet I tend to use these for more formal assessment purposes, so for class work, my students use their work notebook, which also saves on prep and paper. answer key students can assess their own or each others’ work, which helps develop independence in learning, and is also a great teacher time-saver! Answer keys are quite integral to this kind of activity in my experience, as they provide learners with an additional valuable opportunity to engage with language vocabulary reference sheet essential learning support, which is also useful as a longer-term reference resource Have a browse in my store for more English independent learning activities, with dollar deals, special offer bundles and freebies too. LATIN VOCABULARY CARDS Latin vocabulary practice and revision activities really do help to create a lively language learning environment. Students can develop, embed, reinforce and refresh their beginner Latin vocabulary in a cooperative, communicative and interactive way, independently of the teacher. The game cards and accompanying Recall and Write activities have a bonus multi-skill focus on listening, speaking, reading, writing and spelling. It doesn’t matter if any of the words or phrases don’t feature in your medium or even longer-term learning plan: this is a great way of encouraging your students to engage with new language, and to build their vocabulary at the same time. I’ve given the plural of nouns, as well as the gender - plurals and gender are key to recreating accurate Latin, so this introduces students to those concepts from the very beginning of their learning. Set 2 features 45 beginning words & phrases in the following categories: The Animal Kingdom Numbers & Roman Numerals 11-20 Greetings & Conversation My Family High-frequency Verbs The Reference, Recall & Write book has 8 pages. It includes an alphabetical Latin-English reference list of all 45 words & phrases. Students find this really useful as a learning support resource, and it comes in very handy for quick vocab quizzes too! The Recall and Write challenges help students familiarise themselves with, and really embed, the range of vocabulary in the set, and also get used to reading, writing and spelling in Latin. There are two written recall challenges: Written Recall Challenge One: This challenge requires students to write the corresponding English word or phrase from a Latin prompt. The words and phrases are in random, rather than category order - this challenges the memory more than when the vocab is in the order learners first learn it in. Written Recall Challenge Two: This challenge requires students to write the corresponding Latin word or phrase from an English prompt. The words and phrases are again in random, rather than category order. I encourage students to visit the Ideas, Notes and Next Steps page regularly, reflecting not only on the words and phrases they feel confident about, but also how they think their skills in listening, speaking, reading and writing are developing - and equally importantly, what they can reasonably do to keep improving. Laminate the game cards if you can - they are far more learner-friendly, and the additional prep and expense is definitely worth it, as the cards will last for years.
