FRENCH CHRISTMAS WORD SEARCH FREEBIE

PRIMARY FRENCH KS3 CHRISTMAS WORD SEARCH FREEBIE Mots Cachés are a fabulous way of encouraging students to engage with the written word in French, refreshing and reinforcing language as they complete the grids. This freebie word search features fourteen French Christmas words, which helps to develop students’ awareness of some Francohphone Christmas traditions and figures, such as Saint Nicholas and Père Fouettard. I use this as a prompt to stimulate discussion about French Christmas practices and customs, and we talk about what students know about other Christmas traditions around the world. The nouns feature masculine and feminine, singular and plural and both definite and indefinite articles, which is a great way of working on and consolidating those grammatical concepts too. I always give answer keys to my word searches - that works really well in terms of helping students work and learn independently together without me, and gives them even more opportunity to engage with French. They’re a great teacher time-saver too, which is always a bonus! I use word searches as starters, refreshers, plenaries or fun-time fillers at any time during the Christmas season, not only if I’m introducing French Christmas vocabulary. Have a browse in my store for more French Christmas resources, with lots of freebies too - try this set of 10 differentiated French Christmas word searches @ £3! https://www.tes.com/teaching-resource/primary-french-christmas-word-searches-12012514 The resource is non-editable in a zipped format. Mots cachés are a fabulous way of encouraging learners to engage with the written word in French, refreshing and reinforcing language as they complete the grids. This mini-bundle features two sets of 10 differentiated word searches & answer keys, with each consecutive grid increasing in challenge. The focus is on key beginner French vocabulary: = les jours de la semaine : the days of the week = les mois et les saisons de l’année : months & seasons of the year In each set, there are 5 French to French grids, where students are prompted with French words, and look for them in French in the grid. For additional consolidation, each grid also features an English word list that they have to complete, really putting their knowledge to the test. There are also 5 English to French grids, where the prompt words are given in English, and students have to find the French equivalent in the grid. For additional consolidation and practice in writing in French, they also complete the French word list on each page. Students can tell in which direction the words are written by looking at the arrow key on each grid. There is an answer key for each word search, so that learners can check their answers - or use for a little extra help if they need it. The word searches are in landscape format, as this mirrors the common direction of reading from left to right in English and French, facilitating learner engagement with the word searches. Answer keys are an essential and integral element of the learning activity: they provide students with an additional opportunity to engage with language, also helping them develop more independence in their learning. They genuinely enjoy correcting their own - and especially each others’ work - and they’re a great teacher time-saver too, which is always a good thing! Use for cover lessons, as starters, refreshers, plenaries or fun-time fillers at any time during the school year, as well as when you’re introducing this particular target language in French. GERMAN VOCABULARY FOR CHILDREN PRIMARY GERMAN VOCABULARY CARDS KS2 GERMAN VOCABULARY KS3 GERMAN VOCABULARY CARDS AND WORKBOOKS 4 SETS OF 198 VOCABULARY CARDS WITH WORKBOOK @ £2.50 EACH IN THE BUNDLE Files are non-editable in a zipped format. The resource is copyright, all rights reserved. It may not be copied, rewritten, amended, shared or distributed outside your own classroom in any way. The license for purchase is a single-user license only. Please read the Terms of Use carefully. 396 beginner German words & phrases with matching English vocabulary cards really do help to create a lively language learning environment, ideal for advanced beginner German learners. There are four sets of 99 beginner German words and phrases, with matching English cards, so 198 cards in each set, 792 cards in total. There is an accompanying 18-page Reference, Recall & Write workbook in each set too. Students can develop, embed, reinforce and refresh their beginner German vocabulary in a cooperative, communicative and interactive way, independently of the teacher. The game cards and accompanying Recall & Write activities have a bonus multi-skill focus on listening, speaking, pronunciation, reading, writing and spelling. It doesn’t matter if any of the words or phrases don’t feature in your medium or even longer-term learning plan: this is a great way of encouraging your students to engage with new language, and to build their vocabulary at the same time. Giving students regular and frequent opportunities to work with the cards and the written recall challenges is really effective, not only when we’re focusing on these particular vocabulary themes, but also across the school year, and even when they’re far more advanced in their learning - all learners benefit from going back to the start. My students use their recall workbooks quite a few times, simply covering previous answers. This means that prep and paper are kept to a minimum. The vocabulary groups across the three sets are as follows: Begrüßungen : Zahlen 0-80 : Tage der Woche : Monate des Jahres : Jahreszeiten : Wetter : Körper / Körperteile : Farben : meine Familie : Tiere : Obst und Gemüse : Schulfächer : Länder : Alltagswörter : Uhrzeit : Verbindungswörter : Adjektive : Deutsch im Klassenzimmer : Fragen und Antworten The Reference, Recall & Write books each have 18 pages. They include an alphabetical German-English reference list of all 99 words & phrases. Students find them really useful as a learning support resource, and they come in very handy for quick vocabulary quizzes too. The Recall and Write challenges help students familiarise themselves with, and really embed, the range of vocabulary in the set, and also get used to reading, writing and spelling in***German***. There are three recall challenges: = Written Recall Challenge One: students write the English word or phrase from a German prompt, with all the words and phrases grouped together in the same category = Written Recall Challenge Two: with this challenge, students write the words or phrases in German from an English prompt, and again, they’re all group together in the same category = Written Recall Challenge Three: the final challenge ‘switches’ at each question from German to English, and lists words and phrases randomly from each category. This challenges the memory more than when the vocabulary is in the order learners first learn it in, with the additional challenge of moving between the two languages - I’ve found that this really does encourage my students to think hard about their German vocabulary. There is definitely prep involved - printing and cutting out the cards, and printing / photocopying the workbooks. Laminate the game cards if you can - they are far more learner-friendly, and the additional prep and expense is worth it, as the cards will last in excellent conditional for years. KS3 KS4 GERMAN PRONUNCIATION RHYMING WORDS PHONICS SPELLING PRACTICE - 99 WORDS FOCUSING ON PHONICS, SOUNDS AND RHYMES - CARDS AND WHOLE-GROUP PRONUNCIATION PRACTICE - 198 WORDS FOCUSING ON PHONICS, SOUNDS, SPELLING AND RHYMES - CARDS AND TWO WHOLE-GROUP PRONUNCIATION PRESENTATIONS @ £2.00 each in the bundle There are 198 cards featuring a range of sounds in German, and a whole-group presentation and practice resource. We revisit the activities frequently to help students develop phonic awareness and a thorough understanding of how German spelling and sounds work. I’ve found that students are quickly able to recognize sound patterns, enabling them to predict the pronunciation of new words accurately. The whole-group presentations are non-editable for copyright reasons, but move forward via a click as a slide show, with all the rhymes and corresponding sounds grouped together - I often use these at the beginning of the lesson, or a 5-minute pronunciation and speaking break during a lesson, again at very regular intervals. I always encourage students to look carefully at all parts of a particular word, not just the focus sound: for example Hochhaus - the focus sound is au, but the ch sound is equally important. The resource works well for my German students at all stages of learning, from beginner to advanced. We use the card template for students to add corresponding sounds/rhymes that they know, or learn, over time. I allocate 10-15 minutes frequently to focus on pronunciation and sounds - this really does help students develop authentic German pronunciation. Laminate the cards if possible - it’s definitely quite a bit of prep, but it’s well worth it in the longer-term - they are far more learner-friendly, and will remain in excellent condition for years. I’ve included a set without a background, as that is not as expensive to prep as the colour - I do create colour-coded sets for my students when I can, as it helps them to identify different resources, but they are fine without color too. I’ve also included a range of my popular *German *freebies that you may not have seen in my store. The files are non-editable for copyright reasons. They are copyright, all rights reserved. They may not be copied, shared, rewritten or distributed outside your own classroom in any way. The license for purchase is a single-user license only. Please read the Terms of Use carefully. There are two written recall challenges: Challenge One requires students to write the corresponding German word or phrase from an English prompt. We use the Ideas, Notes and Next Steps page regularly, reflecting not only on the words and phrases they feel confident about, but also how they think their skills in listening, speaking, pronouncing English, reading and writing are developing - and equally importantly, what they can reasonably do to keep improving. The workbook format is great for home learning activities too. I also create an answer key booklet - one booklet for small groups of 3 or 4 learners is sufficient. If you create workbooks and answer key booklets, these are best prepared photocopied double-sided and with a double staple on the left-hand side. This format is far more reader, writer and learner-friendly than using a single-staple in the top left-hand corner for example. Files are non-editable in a zipped format. ENGLISH NUMBERS 0-10 WORD SEARCHES FOR GERMAN SPEAKERS

(0)
ENGLISCH ALS FREMDSPRACHE ENGLISCH ALS ZWEITSPRACHE ESL EFL ENGLISH NUMBERS 0-10 for German-speaking learners of English. Word searches are a fabulous way of encouraging learners to engage with the written word in English, refreshing and reinforcing language as they complete the grids. This set features ten differentiated word searches, focusing on Numbers 0-10, with each consecutive grid increasing in challenge. There are 6 English to English grids, labelled with Big Ben, where learners are prompted with the English words, and look for them in English in the grid. For additional vocab consolidation, Grids 1-4 also feature a German word list that learners have to complete, as extra practice for saying and writing the numbers together — this works really well for embedding language. Grids 5 & 6 require learners to work out what the numbers are in English, and write them out again in English, for additional spelling practice. There are also 4 German to English grids, labelled with a***traditional German House*** , where the prompt words are given in German, and learners have to find the English equivalent in the grid. For additional consolidation and practice in writing and spelling in English, they also complete the English word list on each page. Learners can tell in which direction the words are written by looking at the arrow key on each grid. There is an answer grid for each word search, so that learners can check their answers - or use for a little extra help if they need it. The word searches are in landscape format, as this mirrors the direction of reading from left to right in both English and German, facilitating learner engagement with the activity. There is a single grid per page, as younger learners of English as a second / subsequent or foreign language are still developing literacy skills in their first language - I’ve found too that older beginner learners benefit from very clear and accessible worksheets, definitely avoiding too much text on a single page. PRIMARY LATIN KS3 LATIN NUMBERS & ROMAN NUMERALS 0-100 I encourage my beginner Latin students to build up a comprehensive vocabulary bank that they can reference easily whenever they need it - we also use them for quick vocab quizzes, spelling competitions and so on. This particular sheet is for my more experienced Latin learners, who’ve been learning Latin for a while - all the numbers and numerals are on a single page in landscape format, so the font is fairly small, but they’re comfortable with quite a bit of text on a single page - beginner learners do need to have language very clearly accessible - I also have a version in my store that I give my absolute beginners - the numbers are across four pages in portrait format My students all have reference resource folders or files - these can have a range of formats - for instance, sticking into a large exercise book, or punching holes down the left-hand side, and adding to files (we also use twine or thick string!). There are three backgrounds to choose from - color, which I tend to use for vocab display, black wave - the backgrounds do help to make vocab lists a little more visually appealing for students who have a lot of vocab to learn, particularly at the beginning of their language studies, or plain - which definitely saves on ink! PRIMARY LATIN KS3 LATIN NUMBERS & ROMAN NUMERALS 0-100 I encourage my beginner Latin students to build up a comprehensive vocabulary bank that they can reference easily whenever they need it - we also use them for quick Latin vocabulary quizzes, spelling competitions and so on. I’ve put the numbers across four pages, because the size of the font is really important for all learners, but especially for beginner language learners, as they begin to familiarize themselves with words and spelling systems in a new language. I have also uploaded a number reference sheet I give my more experienced Latin learners - it’s in landscape format, with all the numbers on a single sheet, so the font size is smaller - students who’ve been learning Latin for a while are comfortable with quite a lot of text on a single page. The word searches are really versatile, and I use them in lots of different contexts, such as starter and refresher activities, fun-time fillers, sub lessons, or free-choice activity at any time during the school year. There are 5 Latin to Latin grids, where learners are prompted with the Latin words, and look for them in Latin in the grid. For additional consolidation, each grid also features an English word list that they have to complete, really putting their knowledge to the test. Grid 5 increases the challenge by prompting the Latin numbers as gap fills. There are 2 English to Latin grids, where the prompt words are given in English, and learners have to find the Latin equivalent in the grid. For additional consolidation and practice in writing in Latin, they also complete the Latin word list on each page. Grid 8 is also Latin to Latin, where learners have to make a simple calculation in order to establish what Latin word they are looking for in the grid, and again they write out the Latin number in a separate column. Grids 9 & 10 prompt with Roman Numerals, and learners also complete the word column in Latin. There is an answer grid for each word search, and this is essential for helping students develop more independence in their learning - they also give students an additional opportunity to engage with the target language, and are a great teacher time-saver too, which is always a good thing! PRIMARY LATIN VOCABULARY CARDS #2

LATIN VOCABULARY CARDS Latin vocabulary practice and revision activities really do help to create a lively language learning environment. Students can develop, embed, reinforce and refresh their beginner Latin vocabulary in a cooperative, communicative and interactive way, independently of the teacher. The game cards and accompanying Recall and Write activities have a bonus multi-skill focus on listening, speaking, reading, writing and spelling. It doesn’t matter if any of the words or phrases don’t feature in your medium or even longer-term learning plan: this is a great way of encouraging your students to engage with new language, and to build their vocabulary at the same time. I’ve given the plural of nouns, as well as the gender - plurals and gender are key to recreating accurate Latin, so this introduces students to those concepts from the very beginning of their learning. Set 2 features 45 beginning words & phrases in the following categories: The Animal Kingdom Numbers & Roman Numerals 11-20 Greetings & Conversation My Family High-frequency Verbs The Reference, Recall & Write book has 8 pages. It includes an alphabetical Latin-English reference list of all 45 words & phrases. Students find this really useful as a learning support resource, and it comes in very handy for quick vocab quizzes too! The Recall and Write challenges help students familiarise themselves with, and really embed, the range of vocabulary in the set, and also get used to reading, writing and spelling in Latin. There are two written recall challenges: Written Recall Challenge One: This challenge requires students to write the corresponding English word or phrase from a Latin prompt. The words and phrases are in random, rather than category order - this challenges the memory more than when the vocab is in the order learners first learn it in. Written Recall Challenge Two: This challenge requires students to write the corresponding Latin word or phrase from an English prompt. The words and phrases are again in random, rather than category order. I encourage students to visit the Ideas, Notes and Next Steps page regularly, reflecting not only on the words and phrases they feel confident about, but also how they think their skills in listening, speaking, reading and writing are developing - and equally importantly, what they can reasonably do to keep improving. Laminate the game cards if you can - they are far more learner-friendly, and the additional prep and expense is definitely worth it, as the cards will last for years. They have a bonus multi-skill focus on listening, speaking, pronunciation, reading and spelling. They’re great for helping students familiarize themselves with, and develop competence in, speaking, reading, writing and spelling in English in general, and certainly in English dates, days, months and seasons in particular. The questions range in complexity and challenge, and some call upon prior knowledge too, helping students make links and build bridges in their learning. There may be some words students are not familiar with - these questions give them the opportunity to learn and apply new language too. There is a significant amount of practice and consolidation of language and grammar, such as word order, punctuation, nuances of spoken versus written language, tense, and ordinal / cardinal numbers. This maximizes the learning potential of the activity, which I take further when we look at multiple choice questions seeking to identify errors - being able to identify errors, and explain what is inaccurate, is a really important language learning skill, and really helps students progress in their learning.
