GCSE GERMAN CONJUGATION PRACTICE SAMPLER a great way of practising, reinforcing and revising how to conjugate all the various verb groups and tenses/moods in German. I use them in a range of learning contexts such as independent work either in class time or at home, holiday refresher work, or individual activities for cover lessons.
Each workbook is structured as follows:
Two alphabetical verb reference lists: German : English and English : German
Three conjugation challenges, each with 50 individual conjugations:
Conjugation Challenge 1: each verb conjugated across a range of pronouns, with students writing the corresponding English verb conjugation.
Conjugation Challenge 2: gives the infinitive of each verb in German, specifying the target pronoun. Students write the corresponding verb conjugation.
Conjugation Challenge 3: students write the corresponding German verb conjugation, and its infinitive, from an English prompt.
Notes and Next Steps sheet, which encourages students to think about how their understanding of German conjugation works, what progress they have made, what their targets for improvement might realistically be, and what they might reasonably do in order to meet those targets. Students also note down any new verbs they discover, which enables them to build up a really sound verb vocabulary bank. We also use this to guide our whole-group discussions about conjugation and German grammar, and learning and progress in general - this is a really successful and popular activity.
There are 6 pages in the answer key - for me, answer keys are an essential and integral part of learning with these kinds of workbooks - they give my students an additional opportunity to engage with language.

The set features 25 high-frequency German verbs in the present tense. There are 6 worksheets, with three differentiated conjugation challenges, each with 50 individual conjugations, in two design formats:
= Workbook Format: 10-page workbook, with cover page, verbs lists, six worksheets and Notes, Next Steps and New Verbs page, where students note any points they’d like to work more on, map their progress and list any new regular German verbs they learn, which helps them develop a really useful German verb bank.
= Worksheet Format: worksheets can be printed out individually, or as a pack without the cover page, verbs lists and progress template, useful for quick revision, refresher, starters / finishers, and also generally saves on prep costs
= answer key
The worksheets also address a broad range of vocabulary and grammar points, such as direct / indirect object pronouns, negative sentences and various question formats. Some sentences include modal verbs and subordinating conjunctions, to ensure that students can practise locating the verb or infinitive accurately. Students may not have engaged with all the language used at this stage, and this makes the activity equally about engaging with new language, as well as practising and reinforcing the current language focus.
There are three differentiated conjugation challenges:
= Challenge 1: each verb conjugated in sentence format across a range of pronouns, with students writing the corresponding translation. Translating accurately is an important skill for language learners to engage with and master, and this kind of focused practice is really useful for them.
= Challenge 2: straightforward conjugation drill: each question gives a German infinitive and a target pronoun. Students write the corresponding German verb conjugation.
= Challenge 3: mirrors Challenge 1, with an increased challenge. Students write the German translation, and the infinitive of the key verb, from a basic English sentence, to ensure that they are able to produce as well as recognize both the correct conjugation and an accurate translation.

The verbs are all in the infinitive form - it’s an important step in learning is to ensure that students quickly develop a useful vocabulary bank, are able to recognize high-frequency German verbs, and are confident with the meaning of those verbs in English - at that point we can move swiftly on to looking at conjugation and using the verbs in a communicative and practical context. We also use our reference lists to help students audit their developing German verb vocabulary.

The verbs are all in the infinitive form and feature high-frequency French verbs that I work with in the advanced beginner to intermediate stages of my French learning programs. It’s important in language learning to ensure that students quickly develop a useful verb vocabulary bank, are able to recognise high-frequency verbs, and are confident with the meaning of those verbs in their first or home language. At that point students can move swiftly on to looking at conjugation and using the verbs in a communicative and practical context, enabling them to produce more detailed and descriptive language. This is an integral element to successful language learning.
Students shouldn’t take on the task of learning long lists of verbs or other vocabulary all at once though: frequent and regular use in real-world practical contexts is far more successful at embedding vocabulary into longer-term memory. I also use the books for quick vocabulary quizzes, again at frequent and regular intervals - I simply shout out the French or English verb, the first student or team to shout out the correct answer wins a point. I’ve found this to be a really successful alternative to more formal vocabulary testing.

GCSE ITALIAN KS4 ITALIAN KS3 ITALIAN PRESENT TENSE ARE VERBS CONJUGATION PRACTICE FOCUS ON 25 HIGH-FREQUENCY ITALIAN -ARE VERBS My students really like this kind of grammar activity, as they like to work and learn independently, which is a successful way of varying teaching and learning methodologies - I’ve found it’s really important to avoid predominantly teacher-led learning in the languages classroom. There are 150 conjugations across 3 differentiated conjugation challenges. I use these kinds of workbooks in lots of different ways: for practice during the introduction phase, for independent choice in class time, for home learning, for practice and revision during vacation and at return to class, and for cover lessons - they’re really versatile, and ideal for KS3 Italian students who are getting to grips with conjugation in Italian, and building their Italian verb vocabulary.
Though the workbook focuses solely on the correct conjugation of verbs, and does not look at word order in the context of full sentences, there are conjugation patterns that students can learn, recognise and apply, ensuring that their spoken and written Italian is accurate, and that their understanding of Italian across the skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing is robust.

Ideal for Primary French Immersion and beginner French students of all ages and stages, providing them with a great opportunity to engage with the written word in French, at the same time developing essential beginner French vocabulary. They are easily differentiated too: the grids have an increasing level of challenge, to ensure that all students can feel confident about their learning - and lots of chances to keep challenging themselves. PRIMARY LATIN NUMBERS 1-10 AND GREAT FOR YEAR 7 LATIN TOO
10 differentiated word searches focusing on LATIN NUMBERS 1-10. They’re great for independent learning - I just give my students free choice to choose the level of challenge, making sure that over time, everyone really does challenge themselves! I always give answer keys too - they give students a further opportunity to practise their numbers, and to both self and peer assess. Students at this age are developing learning skills in general, as well as learning Latin, and I’ve found that this particular design of grid and challenge level, works really well as an all-round learning resource.
Word searches sometimes get bad press for being too easy, and with little learning value, but I disagree, and my students love the ones I design for them. I always build in differentiation, with each grid increasing in challenge - the grids are really inclusive, challenging all learners.
There are 5 LATIN-LATIN grids - the prompt words are in Latin, and the grid words are also in Latin. Each grid is progressively more challenging. There are also 5 ENGLISH-LATIN grids - the prompt word is in English, and students have to find the Latin equivalent in the grid. On each grid there’s a number list they have to complete too for extra practice. Each grid is on 8.5 x 11 (A4) landscape format - this format has always worked best for my beginner Latin learners.

FRENCH CITIES 5 DIFFERENTIATED WORD SEARCHES WITH ANSWER KEY AND GRID TEMPLATES I use these word searches as a way of introducing the geography and cities of France to my students, as well as to give them opportunity to practice their beginning French skills - they’re differentiated, and multi-skill. The grid template allows them to apply their French very practically, as they create grids for each other - I always encourage my students to explore France a little more, and find other cities and towns too.

Ideal for cross-curricular learning in German class: students can develop their knowledge of the geography of Europe in a cooperative, communicative and interactive way, independently of the teacher. At the same time, students are developing their German language skills: speaking, listening and reading in particular, as well as broadening their German vocabulary. We play both as a whole-group team quiz, and in pairs or small groups on a regular basis - students are particularly keen to see if they can beat their own points record, and are really motivated by their developing knowledge.
The set contains all European countries and capital cities, including some island communities such as the Faroe Islands and Guernsey. Each question has 4 answers to choose from. The correct answer is given in capital letters. The quiz cards are numbered, but questions can be asked in random order too: simply place all the cards in a bowl, box or tin, and work your way through.
There are two quiz challenges:
Challenge 1 gives the country as a prompt, with four possible capital cities to choose from.
Challenge 2 gives the capital city as a prompt, with four possible countries to choose from. This challenge uses the definite article in the responses to help consolidate students’ knowledge of the gender of individual countries and the use of the dative following the preposition von.
The card numbers for Challenge 1 are in the top right-hand corner; Challenge 2 in the top left-hand corner so that the cards can be organised and sorted easily. Laminate the cards if possible: they’re more learner-friendly, and remain in excellent condition for years.
Before playing, it’s useful to show students a map of Europe, so that they can visualize the location of each country and capital city, not only as an individual location with Europe, but also as a location in relation to other European countries and capital cities. This definitely helps students understand and memorise the countries and capital cities.

It’s easy to create an instant introduction to numbers 0-21 in Spanish with this set of word wall cards, featuring beginning numbers that I like to share with my young learners of Spanish. They’re really useful during the introduction phase, and we also use them for developing language skills and awareness in general. We like to do number guessing and calculation games at regular intervals too.
There are two cards per 8.5 x 11 (A4) page in landscape format - the words are definitely big enough for children to be able to read from a range of locations in the classroom. There are two backgrounds to choose from - Spanish flag or black wave. I definitely recommend that you print on card stock and/or laminate for longevity - you’ll be able to use and enjoy your PRIMARY SPANISH NUMBERS WORD WALL for years to come!

Perfect for geography class, as well as a general knowledge quiz: an ideal way for students to learn and test their knowledge of the states and capitals of the USA. There are four multiple choice quizzes, each question with four possible answers to choose from, 160 individual questions in total. The correct answer is given in capital letters.
The quizzes work well as a whole, small-group or paired oral quiz. Each quiz card is numbered in a particular place according to the particular quiz, so that the cards can be easily sorted and organised before and after playing. Laminate if you can - it’s definitely worth the extra prep time and expense, as they cards are more learner-friendly and remain in excellent condition for years, so you’ll get lots of use from them.

Students can develop their knowledge of the geography of Europe in a cooperative, communicative and interactive way, independently of the teacher. We play both as a whole-group team quiz, and in pairs or small groups on a regular basis - students are particularly keen to see if they can beat their own points record, and are really motivated by their developing knowledge.
The set contains all European countries and capital cities, including some island communities such as the Faroe Islands and Guernsey. Each question has 4 answers to choose from. The correct answer is given in capital letters. The quiz cards are numbered, but questions can be asked in random order too: simply place all the cards in a bowl, box or tin, and work your way through.
There are two quiz challenges:
Challenge 1 gives the country as a prompt, with four possible capital cities to choose from.
Challenge 2 gives the capital city as a prompt, with four possible countries to choose from.
The card numbers for Challenge 1 are in the top right-hand corner; Challenge 2 in the top left-hand corner so that the cards can be organised and sorted easily. Laminate the cards if possible: they’re more learner-friendly, and remain in excellent condition for years.
Before playing, it’s useful to show students a map of Europe, so that they can visualize the location of each country and capital city, not only as an individual location with Europe, but also as a location in relation to other European countries and capital cities. This definitely helps students understand and memorise the countries and capital cities.

There may be a number of countries and capital cities that students do not know, or are not aware of, so the posters really help students develop their general knowledge and understanding of European geography. I’ve included a range of islands, such as the Faroe Islands, and I’ve also shown some countries, for example Armenia, that are often classed as belonging either to Europe or to Asia. There are also two posters for some countries, such as France, officially known as République Française - you can choose either that, or the more frequently-used la France to display.
The posters look great displayed horizontally across a particular learning area - alphabetically works well, though non-alphabetically is perfect for a country quest activity. They’re ideal for the annual Europe Day celebration, and The European Day of Languages, as well as an all year round learning display. I often ask ‘quick questions’ such as ***Quelle est la capitale de… ?***, or Oui ou non ? Madrid est la capitale de Portugal ? - there are lots of questioning and speaking opportunities, using the posters as visual prompts. Speaking does tend to be quite a challenging skill in French class, so getting the most from classroom display to encourage students to speak is really important, as they’re a great tool for encouraging students to speak, and to construct sentences, from the very beginning of their French learning.
