Ideal for cross-curricular learning French and geography featuring 41 countries / territories where French is an official language as well as regions and territories where a significant number of the population speak French as either their first or second language, such as Vietnam. Each word wall card shows the country and capital city in French, and its national flag.
There may be a number of countries and capital cities that students do not know, or are not aware of, so the word wall definitely helps them fully develop their general awareness, knowledge and understanding of the French-speaking world. This means we can really make the most of the learning potential of classroom decor. I’ve used the definite article, as I’ve found that this helps embed the concept of gender in French, and that proper nouns, such as countries, are subject to gender agreement rules too.
I use the word wall to get students talking in French class too during Talk Time for example - quick questions such as Vrai ou faux ? Québec est la capitale du Canada ? or Libreville est la capitale de quel pays ? are really useful to encouraging students to speak in French.
There are two cards per 8.5 x 11 (A4) page in landscape format, with two design formats to choose from - French flag or plain. Laminate the cards if you can, as they display really nicely, and remain in excellent condition for years.

The resource is non-editable in a zipped format. It may not be copied, rewritten, shared or distributed outside your own classroom in any way. The license for purchase is a single-user license only. Please read the Terms of Use.
An instant introduction to Europe which really helps students develop their awareness of European countries, capital cities and flags. There are***60 countries*** featured in the quiz. Each country is presented individually with its capital city and flag - as you show the slides, encourage students to shout out the country names as they appear - this tends to aid memory quite considerably - I point out the location of each country on the background map, which helps students situate each country within the continent, and visualizing the location of the countries again aids memory.
The presentation is followed by a series of 100 questions. The questions are structured slightly differently to differentiate the challenge a little: some focus on the countries, others on capital cities, and some on flags. Taken together, students will definitely develop a sound locational knowledge of the countries of Europe, their capital cities and flags.
The quiz works particularly well with several teams - encourage each team to choose a European-themed team game. Teams can either take it in turns to answer a question, but it’s also great fun, and keeps up a lively pace, to play as a Shout it out! quiz - whoever shouts out the correct answer first wins the point.
The resource is not editable for copyright reasons - the presentation moves on with a click. Each question slide is followed by the relevant answer slide - simply click, and it appears!

A great way of getting your students talking without feeling ‘on the spot’, or worried about not getting their pronunciation and accent right in front of the whole class. The Q&A prompt cards offer structured talk opportunities, and focus on vocabulary, structures and general knowledge that they are likely to meet in both the beginning and more intermediate stages of their English learning.
My students apply their developing English knowledge creatively and practically by crafting their own questions and answers, using the prompts as speaking frames. With focused and frequent practice, they begin to feel more confident about their language skills, using the Notes and Next Steps pages in the reference book to jot down their ideas. We also use the pages to note how they think their skills are developing, and how well they are beginning to understand fully both the range of vocabulary and grammatical concepts.
The language in this set is ideal for advanced beginner English students moving into intermediate English, and feature a range of differentiated questions and answers, addressing various aspects of English, such as forming questions, the use of the present and present continuous tenses, word order and so on. This is really important for language learners, who often attempt to impose the grammar and structures of their first language onto the new language they are learning. There’s definitely a cultural and general information flavor to many of the questions, such as What is the London Eye? and How many countries are there in the United Kingdom?

Christmas provides a great learning opportunity in Italian class. Activities featuring Italian Christmas vocabulary provide a dual learning platform, where students can learn about Christmas in Italy, at the same time as revisiting and revising language they have already engaged with. Using Italian Christmas images and vocabulary enables students to engage with traditions and customs in Italian-speaking countries, comparing and contrasting them to other Christmas practices they know or follow. It’s a really useful way of stimulating discussion about Christmas in Italy and other Italian-speaking countries. I’ll be adding to the collection next Christmas, and you’ll be able to download the new resources as part of your original purchase.

= Set 1: focus on o’clock, half past, quarter to & quarter past the hour
= Set 2: focus on 5 & 10 past and 5 & 10 to the hour
= Set 3: focus on 20 & 25 past and 20 & 25 to the hour
Lively whole-group multi-skill language learning games, ideal for Primary French / KS2 French and KS3 French / KS4 French students. The repetitive nature of the questions and answers, supported by the visual prompt of the clock faces, makes it perfect for practising, reinforcing & refreshing how to tell the time in French, and for pronunciation practice too.
There are 8 clock faces per page. This size ensures they are sufficiently large for students to be able to read the time clearly, also allowing for an ideal font size to keep language clear and accessible. I always laminate my language learning cards - it’s definitely worth the extra prep time and expense, as they’re more learner-friendly, and remain in excellent condition for years. The aim of the game is to arrange the clocks in the relevant order. Students will generally have several cards each, depending on the size of your class. We usually set the cards on a table, so that students can see the timeline clearly. I frequently use a timer when we play. Playing in teams, using either a single challenge, or with both challenges together, is really popular - students find the competitive element really motivating and are genuinely keen to see which team can finish first, and whether they can beat their own time record. The games also work well as pair or small-group games.
Each set has two games, each with a different challenge:
= Challenge 1: with all the the clock times in numerical order, J’ai… Qui a… ?
= Challenge 2: with the all the clock times in random order, which really helps recall and embedding new language, as students often learn time phrases in numerical order, As-tu… ? Oui (Non), j’ai…

These French speaking prompt cards are perfect for developing speaking skills - there are 200 question and answer cards and two reference books focusing on beginning and general conversation with some cultural knowledge. I created them for my advanced beginner to intermediate French learners. They’re also great for multi-skill language learning - they give students structured talk opportunities and will also get them listening, reading and writing. As their confidence and competence develop, my students begin to rely less on the prompts, and are able to produce language really creatively. The cards ideal for independent learning, and perfect for pair and small-group work. There are also a lot of games you can play with the cards, and I’ve described a range of those that work really well for us.

My students use them to guide their own creative use of language, as a kind of writing frame, as they create new questions and answers for each other. We use the Ideas, Notes and Next Steps template to reflect on learning, and to think about what we might reasonably do to progress in our learning - it’s really useful to guide and inform whole-group discussion.
The question and answer card writing templates give students the opportunity to apply their French practically and creatlvely, as they put together both questions and answers for each other, which is integral to successful language learning. An instant introduction to 25 fruits and 25 vegetables in French. I like to share essential beginner French vocabulary that I can use in everyday talk with my young learners from the beginning of their French learning programme. The key focus is on the definite article, both masculine and feminine, singular and plural, though I do use the set to start to compare these with the indefinite article, which I’ve found to be a really successful way of helping students embed grammatical concepts such as gender, implicitly, without the need for repeated explicit instruction.
We use the set not only when we’re introducing and practising French fruits and vegetables, but also for developing French language skills and awareness in general. Students are able to familiarize themselves with how French words ‘look’, and how sounds are represented in the written form. I don’t actually introduce 25 vegetables at once, but in my classroom decor, I generally have additional language to maximize students’ exposure to related vocabulary.
The fruits are:
green apples : red apple : bananas : cherries : dates : fig : green grapes : red grapes : kiwi : lemon : mango : nectarine : olives : oranges : papaya : peach : pear : pineapple : pumpkin : raspberry : red currants : rhubarb : star fruit : strawberries : watermelon
The vegetables are:
artichoke : asparagus : beetroot : broccoli : cabbage : carrots : cauliflower : celery : sweetcorn : cucumber : eggplants / aubergines : French / green beans : garlic : leeks : lettuce : mushrooms : onions : peas : red peppers : yellow pepper : potatoes : sprouts : spinach : sweet potatoes : tomato
The flashcards / posters are 8.5 x 11 (A4) portrait size. There are two design formats to choose from - French flag, or plain without frame, to keep prep costs to a minimum, so 100 flashcards / posters in total. I always print on card stock and / or laminate my flashcards / posters, as they display much more effectively, and remain in excellent condition for years.

There are 198 cards featuring a range of sounds in German, and a whole-group presentation and practice activity. Revisit the activities frequently to help students develop phonetic awareness and a thorough understanding of how German spelling and sounds work. Students are quickly able to recognize sound patterns, enabling them to predict the pronunciation of new words more accurately. The whole-group presentations are non-editable for copyright reasons, but move forward via a click as a slide show, with all the rhymes and corresponding sounds grouped together. This is also useful for starter and finisher activities throughout the school year.
Encourage students to look carefully at all parts of a particular word, not just the focus sound: for example Hochhaus - the focus sound is au, but the ch sound is equally important. The resource works well for my German students at all stages of learning, from beginner to advanced. We use the card template for students to add corresponding sounds/rhymes that they know, or learn, over time. Allocate 10-15 minutes frequently to focus on pronunciation and sounds - this really does help students develop authentic German pronunciation.
Laminate the cards if possible - it’s definitely quite a bit of prep, but it’s well worth it in the longer-term - they are far more learner-friendly, and will remain in excellent condition for years. There is also a set without background to save prep costs.

VIELEN DANK UND VIEL SPAß IN DER DEUTSCHSTUNDE!
BACK TO SCHOOL ICE-BREAKERS FACTS ABOUT LANGUAGES TWO SET OF 36 FACTS CARDS @ £3.50 EACH

The facts focus on world languages, and is a great whole-group learning activity at any time of the school year. They’re particularly useful as***ice-breakers in the back-to-school phase***, as it’s a very social activity, and really gets students up from their desks, walking around talking to each other. The information addresses a very wide range of languages topics, from world history, history of language, varied fields within linguistics to global languages facts for example.
The cards are designed for older students, as the facts do require a certain level of world knowledge and language awareness, and particularly world geography. I always screen a world map first, pointing out continents, countries, regions and territories and so on, because using the cards is also a great way of actually learning about the world, its history, shifting geographical and political borders, migrating populations and so on.
I use the cards in various ways: for example, a really popular method is the walk and talk activity, where students take a card each, walk around the classroom, exchanging facts - when they’ve shared the information on their card, students swap cards, and carry on walking — in this way, they encounter the same facts a couple of times, which really embeds knowledge. I tend to do this activity several times across the school year, following it up with an informal whole-group quiz, particularly when I feel that students need a break from more formal learning.
I also use the cards as either entrance or exit cards - again, followed by a quick quiz at several points in the year - simply turn the language on the individual cards into a question format. This works really well when students quiz each other, which moves them away from teacher-led learning towards more independent and social learning.

Please note this is the World Languages version of my European Day of Languages Facts about Languages set: if you have already purchased that set, there is no need to purchase this one.
THANKS AND ENJOY THE ACTIVITY!
