PRIMARY ITALIAN KS3 ITALIAN VOCABULARY DAYS, MONTHS, SEASONS I create a lot of essential vocab lists for my language students, as they find them really useful, both in the classroom and at home. The lists work well when students keep them carefully in learning files or folders for current and future reference. They also work well printed double-sided and laminated for small-group work in class. There are two backgrounds to choose from - Italian flag, which I tend to use for target vocabulary display, or black wave. I use a background for vocabulary lists quite a lot, because it does make them more visually appealing, which is really important for language learners who do have a lot of vocabulary to learn.

SPANISCH FÜR DEUTSCHSPRACHIGE ALEMÁN SPANISH FOR GERMAN SPEAKERS SPANISH FRUITS WORD SEARCH for German-speaking Spanish learners.
Sopas de Letras are a fabulous way of encouraging learners to engage with the written word in Spanish, refreshing and reinforcing language as they complete the grids. This freebie features a Spanish fruits word search with answer key, perfect for beginner Spanish learners of all grades. The fruits include masculine, feminine, singular and plural, with a blend of definite and indefinite articles - this really helps learners think a little more creatively about language, and their new Spanish vocabulary - they may learn la manzana, and it’s useful to give students opportunity to think about grammatical concepts, and how la becomes una for example.
There is a Spanish to German grid, where learners are prompted with the Spanish word, and look for it in Spanish in the grid. For additional consolidation, the grid also features a German word list that they have to complete, really putting their knowledge to the test. Learners can tell in which direction the words are written by looking at the arrow key on the grid. Having a good bilingual dictionary to hand is also a good idea, as this provides a further focus on developing literacy in both Spanish and German, and facilitates learner independence.
There is an answer key grid for the search grid, so that learners can check their answers - or use for a little extra help if they need it. Answer keys are really essential - they offer learners an additional opportunity to engage with language, develop more independence in their learning, and students genuinely enjoy ‘correcting’ their own, and particularly each others’ work. They’re a great teacher time-saver too, which is always a good thing!
The word search is in landscape format, as this mirrors the common direction of reading and writing from left to right in both Spanish and German. I’ve found this to be the best format for beginner language learners, ensuring language is very clear and accessible. This kind of activity is really versatile too - I use for sub lessons, as starters, refreshers, plenaries or fun-time fillers at any time during the school year, as well as when I’m focusing on fruits in Spanish.

This sampler features five questions from Sets 1 & 2 of my English Speaking & Writing Prompts. They’re suitable for intermediate to advanced intermediate English Language Learning students. Speaking and writing are language skills that learners tend to find very challenging, and increased engagement with language that requires them to both reproduce language they are already familiar with, and to be creative with that language in order to produce new language is really beneficial.
The questions in the sets are differentiated, addressing a broad range of ability, which aim to progress all learners. Tenses include present, future, near future, perfect and conditional. Question formats are likewise varied, to ensure maximum opportunity to work with the different ways to ask questions in English. Some questions seek to elicit very similar information, but are asked in different language: this avoids learners simply parroting learned responses to fixed prompts. The prompts are really versatile too, specifically with a focus on speaking and writing.
There’s a 2-page prompts master list, which is useful as a general reference resource, and we also use it for reading aloud and pronunciation practice, discussing in what ways we might adapt and amend the questions to create new prompts.
The prompts broadly address the following themes: college life & study; future plans; information technology; where I live; social & environmental issues; North America/UK & travel; social activity & daily life. I always remind my students that they do not have to ‘tell the truth’ in their responses! The important thing is to answer question correctly, appropriately and creatively. I encourage them to use the questions themselves as a frame of reference for their responses, and also when creating new prompts for each other, which is a really popular and successful activity too.

I encourage my beginner German students of all ages and stages to build up comprehensive vocabulary banks that they can reference easily whenever they need it, and they’re also really useful for regular vocabulary audits, which really helps students map their progress and keep track of their learning. Students take responsibility for organising their own learning materials from the very beginning of their learning, keeping them carefully in vocabulary learning files or folders. My students all have reference resource folders or files - these can have a range of formats - for instance, sticking into a large exercise book, or punching holes down the left-hand side, and adding to files (we also use twine or thick string).
I also use this kind of vocabulary list for quick vocabulary quizzes, spelling competitions and so on, and it also works well laminated for small-group work in class time. The font size is fairly large, as ensuring that language is clear and accessible is essential for beginner language learners, as they begin to familiarise themselves with words and spelling systems in a new language.
There are two backgrounds to choose from - German flag, which I generally use for German vocabulary display, and plain.

An instant reference resource for students focusing on high-frequency beginner English vocabulary. I encourage my beginner English students to build up a comprehensive vocabulary bank that they can reference easily whenever they need it.
I also use these kinds of vocabulary lists for for quick vocabulary quizzes, spelling competitions and so on. I’ve put the numbers across two pages, because the size of the font is really important for all learners, but especially for beginner language learners, as they begin to familiarize themselves with words and spelling systems in a new language. I have also uploaded a number reference sheet I give my more experienced English learners - it’s in landscape format, with all the numbers on a single sheet, so the font size is smaller - students who’ve been learning English for a while are comfortable with quite a lot of text on a single page. I like to have sets of super simple worksheets that I can give to my young beginner learners of***Italian***, not only when they’re new to the target vocabulary, but also for refreshing and revising language they’ve learnt some time ago. Students can generally more easily assimilate new language and vocabulary when they are able to link it in their memory with a visual image, and it’s particularly important to match a clock time with the corresponding clock face when learning how to tell the time. I give my students these worksheets at the same time as introducing the time set in***Italian***, so that they can practise and embed both recognising the time, and writing the time phrase itself. Students really enjoy the opportunity to test their recall too.
The worksheets are useful in a number of contexts: I use them for cover lessons, as starters, plenaries, five-minute refreshers and home learning activities. I occasionally use them for more formal assessment purposes too.

I like to share essential beginner French vocabulary that I can use in everyday talk with my young learners from the beginning of their French learning programme. The key focus is on the definite article, both masculine and feminine, singular and plural, though I do use the set to start to compare these with the indefinite article, which I’ve found to be a really successful way of helping students embed grammatical concepts such as gender, implicitly, without the need for repeated explicit instruction.
The 5 fruits in this free sampler are:
lemon : oranges : pumpkin : raspberry : starfruit
The flashcards / posters are 8.5 x 11 (A4) portrait size. There are two design formats to choose from - French flag or plain without frame, to keep prep costs to a minimum, so 10 flashcards / posters in total. I always print on card stock and / or laminate my flashcards / posters, as they display much more effectively, and remain in excellent condition for years.

A great instant reference resource for students focusing on high-frequency German adjectives. I’ve found that the lists are a great learning support resource, and they’re really popular with students too. They work well when students keep them carefully in learning files or folders for current and future reference. They also work well printed double-sided and laminated for small-group work in class.
This list is a second collection of 25 high-frequency German adjectives that I’ve found are ideal for beginner German into intermediate German learning programs - it’s an important step in learning is to ensure that students quickly develop a useful German adjectives vocabulary bank, are able to recognize German adjectives, and are confident with the meaning of those adjectives in English - at that point we can move swiftly on to looking at adjectival endings and agreement, producing more complex and descriptive language, and using the adjectives in a communicative and practical context, which is essential for progressing in language learning.
The purpose of the list isn’t to simply learn all 25 adjectives by rote: it’s a longer-term reference resource that students use for example when they’re writing creatively, preparing written texts, or working with their talk partner to develop speaking skills. My students also use their vocabulary reference lists to help them audit their developing German vocabulary in general.
The list is a great time-saver for teachers too - if you’re preparing resources focusing on adjectives in German for your students, the list is a good starting point.
There are two alphabetical lists - one German-English, and one English-German, as I’ve found that language learners prefer to have both as a reference resource. There are two backgrounds to choose from - German flag, which I generally use for German grammar display, and plain.

PRIMARY MATHS NUMBERS 0-10 Word searches a fabulous way of encouraging learners to engage with the written word, practising and reinforcing language as they complete the grids. This is a free word search, focusing on Numbers 0-10. The search offers a really useful learning opportunity - consolidating not only new numbers, but also working on reading, writing, spelling and literacy skills in general - children often focus on the arithmetic skills involved with numbers, but it’s just as important to work on consolidating the written words too. It’s ideal for both independent learning, as a fun-time filler as well as a targeted practice of the written numbers themselves.
Word searches are easily differentiated, with opportunity to increase challenge gradually, and learners have to look very carefully at letters, and how words are constructed to complete the grid. They are able to identify which direction words are located in within the grid by referring to the arrow key. Here, for additional consolidation, they also rewrite each number in the word column. There is an answer grid for the word search, so that learners can check their answers - or use for a little extra help if they need it! For me, answer keys are essential, as they not only provide learners with another opportunity to engage with language, but they also help them develop more independence in their learning. They’re also a great teacher time-saver - a real bonus!
The word search is in landscape format, mirroring the common direction of reading and writing in English from left to right, facilitating learner engagement with the activity. The landscape format is also really useful for learners whose first language is written from right to left. There is a single grid per 8.5 x 11 (A4) sheet - I like to ensure that text is accessible to all learners, and at this stage of their learning, it’s absolutely essential that language looks accessible and manageable.
Please note this is the math center version of my ESL / EFL Numbers 0-10 Word Search freebie. The file is non-editable in a zipped format. GCSE ITALIAN KS4 ITALIAN KS3 ITALIAN VERBS CONJUGATION PRACTICE FREE SAMPLER I’ve created a lot of ‘quick conjugation workbooks’ for my students and they’re really popular and effective. They’re a great way of practising, reinforcing and revising how to conjugate all the various verb groups, tenses and moods in Italian. I use them in a range of learning contexts such as independent work either in class time or at home, holiday refresher work, or individual activities for cover lessons. Students really benefit from several opportunities to work through the workbooks, once or twice a term across a whole school year is a great way of both mapping progress and developing overall understanding and competence.
The workbooks focus on specific 25 essential Italian verbs in a range of tenses. They include modals, regular, and irregular verbs. Each workbook is structured as follows:
Two alphabetical verb reference lists: Italian : English and English : Italian
Three conjugation challenges, each with 50 individual conjugations:
Conjugation Challenge 1: each verb conjugated across a range of pronouns, with students writing the corresponding English verb conjugation.
Conjugation Challenge 2: gives the infinitive of each verb in Italian, specifying the target pronoun. Students write the corresponding verb conjugation.
Conjugation Challenge 3: students write the corresponding Italian verb conjugation, and its infinitive, from an English prompt.
Notes and Next Steps sheet, which encourages students to think about how their understanding of Italian conjugation works, what progress they have made, what their targets for improvement might realistically be, and what they might reasonably do in order to meet those targets.

I give my students of all grades and learning phases a whole series of reference lists, that build up into a really comprehensive reference bank over the course of their German program. They’re really popular with my students, as they know they can just go to their reference file or folder, and find what they need. They tell me that they feel far more confident about their German when they have a good grasp of core vocab. They’re great for quick vocab quizzes too.
There are two alphabetical lists - one German-English, and one English-German, as I’ve found that beginner German students prefer to have both as a reference resource. I’ve noted where a verb is separable, irregular or conjugated with sein. If my group is small, I provide students with a set of double-sided and laminated reference resources. My students all have a reference file or folder, again from the beginning of their learning, and part of helping them develop independence in, and responsibility for, their learning, is to give them opportunity to keep their learning resources in good order, and easily accessible.
The verbs are all in the infinitive form - it’s an important step in learning is to ensure that students quickly develop a useful vocabulary bank, are able to recognize high-frequency German verbs, and are confident with the meaning of those verbs in English - at that point we can move swiftly on to looking at conjugation and using the verbs in a communicative and practical context. Speaking is a language skill that learners tend to find very challenging, regardless of level, and increased engagement with language that requires them to both reproduce accurately language they are already familiar with, and to be creative with that language in order to produce new language is integral to successful language learning.
The questions feature a range of tenses, such as the present tense, perfect tense, conditional tense, and si + imperfect + conditional clause. There is also a significant amount of implicit input on a range of grammatical concepts, such as agreement with preceding direct object, use of the subjunctive and so on.
I include tenses we may not have formally covered, and a broad range of language, regardless of student learning level, as the activity is not solely about practising language, but also about actively learning it. I encourage students to look for cues and clues in the questions themselves, and this certainly enables them to engage with new or unknown language successfully, and to progress in their learning, which is equally important for all learners.
Questions formats are varied, to ensure maximum opportunity to work with the different ways to ask questions in French. Some questions seek to elicit very similar information, but are asked in different language: this avoids learners simply parroting learned responses to fixed prompts.

25 high-frequency French verbs, listed alphabetically French-English and English-French ideal as a year-round reference resource, and students find it particularly useful for exam revision, whether working in class time or at home. It’s useful for advanced beginner French students to provide a language learning map and for intermediate French students who are working with more complex language and texts, including authentic resources, and as a vocabulary audit and enrichment.
The verbs are all in the infinitive form and feature high-frequency French verbs that I work with in the advanced beginner to intermediate stages of my French learning programs. It’s important in language learning to ensure that students quickly develop a useful French verb vocabulary bank, are able to recognize high-frequency French verbs, and are confident with the meaning of those verbs in their first or home language. At that point students can move swiftly on to looking at conjugation and using the verbs in a communicative and practical context, enabling them to produce more detailed and descriptive language. This is an integral element to successful language learning.
Students shouldn’t take on the task of learning long lists of verbs or other vocabulary all at once though: frequent and regular use in real-world practical contexts is far more successful at embedding vocabulary into longer-term memory. I also use the books for quick vocabulary quizzes, again at frequent and regular intervals - I simply shout out the French or English verb, the first student or team to shout out the correct answer wins a point. I’ve found this to be a really successful alternative to more formal vocabulary testing.
The list is a great time-saver for teachers too - if you’re preparing resources focusing on high-frequency French verbs for your students, the list is a good starting point.

I like to have sets of super simple worksheets that I can give to my young beginner learners of***Italian***, not only when they’re new to the target vocabulary, but also for refreshing and revising language they’ve learnt some time ago. Students can generally more easily assimilate new language and vocabulary when they are able to link it in their memory with a visual image, and it’s particularly important to match a clock time with the corresponding clock face when learning how to tell time. I give my students these worksheets at the same time as introducing o’clock in***Italian***, so that they can practise and embed both recognising the time, and writing the time phrase itself. Students really enjoy the opportunity to test their recall too.
The worksheets are useful in a number of contexts: I use them for cover lessons, as starters, plenaries, five-minute refreshers and home learning activities. I occasionally use them for more formal assessment purposes too.
