ESL EFL ENGLISH FOR CHILDREN BEGINNER ENGLISH HOW TO TELL THE TIME IN ENGLISH O’CLOCK ANALOGUE WORKSHEETS FREEBIE The resource is non-editable in a zipped format. It may not be copied, rewritten, amended, shared or distributed outside your own classroom. The license is a single-user license only. The resource is free to download, but Terms of Use still apply. I like to have sets of super simple worksheets that I can give to my young beginner learners of English, not only when they’re new to the target vocabulary, but also for refreshing and revising language they’ve learnt some time ago. Students can generally more easily assimilate new language and vocabulary when they are able to link it in their memory with a visual image, and it’s particularly important to match a clock time with the corresponding clock face when learning how to tell the time. I give my students these worksheets at the same time as introducing the time set, so that they can practise and embed both recognising the time, and writing the time phrase itself. Students really enjoy the opportunity to test their recall too. The worksheets are useful in a number of contexts: I use them for sub lessons, as starters, plenaries, five-minute refreshers and home learning activities. I occasionally use them for more formal assessment purposes too. Students also find this How to tell the time in English o’clock list freebie helpful: HOW TO TELL THE TIME IN ENGLISH : O’CLOCK LIST FREEBIE https://www.tes.com/teaching-resource/english-telling-time-o-clock-list-freebie-12633329 Have a browse in my store for more English super simple worksheets, and a wide range of other English teaching and learning materials, with English resource boxes, special offer bundles, and lots of freebies. FRENCH IDIOMS POSTERS FREEBIE #3

GCSE FRENCH IDIOMS French Speaking Practice Encouraging students to speak can be quite challenging in the languages classroom, and I’ve found that even my more advanced learners can be quite reluctant, especially if the group is fairly large. I use a range of strategies to promote speaking, and idioms, proverbs and fun expressions which sound quite strange when translated literally are really popular - for example, we have regular competitions to see who can get the most idioms or expressions into dialogues and conversations. This works really well for students of all stages and ages. The posters show the literal translation, which generally sounds very odd, such as this particular idiom Revenons à nos moutons ! - Let’s return to our sheep! and the correct corresponding translation. We also discuss other possible translations into English, which helps them understand the concept of translation, and that there are potentially many correct ways of expressing meaning accurately. The posters also lend the learning environment a real French ambiance, promoting the everyday use of French. There are two backgrounds - the French flag looks great, but definitely uses a lot of ink, so you may prefer the poster without a background - this looks just as good! Keep checking back for more posters if you like them, as I have a huge collection! SPANISH NUMBERS 0-100 CHALLENGE CARDS FREEBIE

(1)
KS3 SPANISH KS4 SPANISH NUMBERS 0-100 This is a free set of 12 Spanish Numbers 0-100 Challenge Cards with answer key and recording sheet. You will be able to use them together with the full set of 48 challenge cards, as these are marked with letters, rather than numbered. The full set of 48 differentiated challenge cards (£3.00) is here: SPANISH NUMBERS 0-100 CHALLENGE CARDS https://www.tes.com/teaching-resource/spanish-numbers-0-100-challenge-cards-1-12903790 Create a lively language learning environment with these challenge cards. Students can develop, embed, reinforce and refresh their knowledge of Spanish numbers in a cooperative, communicative and interactive way, independently of the teacher. They have a bonus multi-skill focus on listening, speaking, pronunciation, reading and spelling. They’re great for helping students familiarize themselves with, and develop competence in, speaking, reading, writing and spelling longer words in Spanish. The cards are useful not only when you’re focusing on Spanish Numbers 0-100, but also for cover lessons, as an all-year-round starter, plenary and general ‘pick-me-up’ activity, as the goal is not simply to learn how to count in Spanish, but also to enjoy working with Spanish, and to feel confident about doing so. All questions are in Spanish, and range in complexity and challenge, both in terms of language and number skills. I’ve used visual prompts such as maths symbols to ensure all learners can engage with the questions, and this helps them to begin to infer meaning from context, and to decode cues and prompts to foster understanding. I don’t allow the use of calculators to increase the challenge a little. Some questions focus specifically on Spanish maths language, which students do not always engage with very often. The question card template enables students to apply their knowledge of language and arithmetic creatively and practically, which is integral to successful language learning. My students also genuinely enjoy creating questions for each other. The set comprises the following non-editable files: 48 differentiated question cards, 6 per A4 (8.5 x 11) paper 2-page answer recording sheet 2-page answer key Have a browse in my store for more Spanish challenge cards, and a wide range of other Spanish teaching and learning materials, with Spanish resource boxes, special offer bundles, and lots of freebies. It’s useful for advanced beginner French students to provide a language learning map and for intermediate French students who are working with more complex language and texts, including authentic resources, and as a vocabulary audit and enrichment. The verbs are all in the infinitive form and feature high-frequency French verbs that I work with in the advanced beginner to intermediate stages of my French learning programs. It’s important in language learning to ensure that students quickly develop a useful French verb vocabulary bank, are able to recognize high-frequency French verbs, and are confident with the meaning of those verbs in their first or home language. At that point students can move swiftly on to looking at conjugation and using the verbs in a communicative and practical context, enabling them to produce more detailed and descriptive language. This is an integral element to successful language learning. Students shouldn’t take on the task of learning long lists of verbs or other vocabulary all at once though: frequent and regular use in real-world practical contexts is far more successful at embedding vocabulary into longer-term memory. I also use the books for quick vocabulary quizzes, again at frequent and regular intervals - I simply shout out the French or English verb, the first student or team to shout out the correct answer wins a point. I’ve found this to be a really successful alternative to more formal vocabulary testing. The list is a great time-saver for teachers too - if you’re preparing resources focusing on high-frequency French verbs for your students, the list is a good starting point. These four my favorite colour posters make an ideal speaking prompt in the Primary French and KS3 French classroom - I encourage students to ask each other Quelle est ta couleur préférée ? as a lesson starter / warm-up, and to select a different colour every time they answer. As they learn more colours, their answers become more varied. I tend to introduce the plural form with the connective et (and) quite quickly, so that students can extend their answers as much as they possibly can - they have great fun seeing who knows the most colours, and can create the longest answers. The key colours are: blue, green, pink and yellow. There are two design formats to choose from - either the French flag, or plain without frame, to keep prep costs to a minimum. Print on card stock and / or laminate if you can, as they are easier to manipulate as flashcards, display much more effectively as classroom display, and remain in excellent condition for years. It doesn’t matter if some of the colours don’t feature in your immediate or even longer-term learning plan: the posters provide learners with daily opportunities to engage with the written word in French, to develop their recognition and recall of individual words, to identify cognates and near-cognates, and to begin to link spelling with sound in French. Students can generally more easily assimilate new language and vocabulary when they are able to link it in their memory with a visual image, and it’s particularly important to match a clock time with the corresponding clock face when learning how to tell the time. I give my students these worksheets at the same time as introducing the time set in French, so that they can practise and embed both recognizing the time, and writing the time phrase itself. Students really enjoy the opportunity to test their recall too. The worksheets are useful in a number of contexts: I use them for cover lessons, as starters, plenaries, five-minute refreshers and home learning activities. I occasionally use them for more formal assessment purposes too. ESL EFL ADVANCED BEGINNER ENGLISH INTERMEDIATE ENGLISH CONJUNCTIONS LIST This resource consists of two non-editable files in a zipped format and is offered freely, but please read the Terms of Use carefully, as it is copyright, all rights reserved. It may not be copied, rewritten, shared or distributed in any way beyond your own classroom. An ideal reference resource for students focusing on high-frequency common English conjunctions and connectives, really giving English language students a flying start with their core target vocabulary, and enabling them to build an enriched range of language from the very beginning of their learning. I’ve found that the lists are a great learning support resource, and they’re really popular with students too. They work well when students keep them carefully in learning files or folders for current and future reference. They also work well printed double-sided and laminated for small-group work in class. This list is a collection of one hundred common English conjunctions and connectives that students will meet in the advanced beginner into advanced intermediate stages of English learning programmes - it’s an important step in learning is to ensure that students quickly develop a useful vocabulary bank, are able to recognize English conjunctions and connectives, and are confident with the meaning of those words in their first and / or home language, so that they can produce more complex and descriptive language and more complex sentences as soon as possible. Students shouldn’t take on the task of learning 100 conjunctions and connectives all at once though - this is more of a longer-term reference resource that students can use to audit their developing English vocabulary and use practically and creatively as they form more complex sentences. It is definitely the case that frequent and regular use in real-world practical contexts is far more successful at embedding vocab into longer-term memory. I encourage my ESL / EFL learners to create accompanying lists corresponding to their first / home languages. There are two backgrounds to choose from - England flag (which looks good as part of a vocabulary display), and black wave - students tell me that this makes vocab lists more visually appealing, which is really useful when they’ve got a lot of vocab to work through and learn. I like to have sets of super simple vocabulary recall worksheets that my students can work on independently for both practice and revision, either in class time or for home learning. They’re really useful for embedding vocabulary, checking recall, and for reading, writing and accurate spelling in French. These four recall worksheets focus on French Numbers 0-100, and feature two differentiated recall challenges: Challenge 1: translate and write the numbers in French from a number prompt; the numbers are in numerical order Challenge 2: translate and write the numbers in French from a number prompt; the numbers are in random, rather than numerical order. This is really useful for vocabulary recall, as students often learn numbers in numerical order. I give my students these French Numbers 0-100 lists both as an answer key for independent checking, and as a reference resource - download them for free here: FRENCH NUMBERS 0-100 LIST FREEBIE #1 (2 pages, portrait format) https://www.tes.com/teaching-resource/french-numbers-0-100-list-freebie-1-12228468 FRENCH NUMBERS 0-100 LIST FREEBIE #2 (landscape format, 1 page) https://www.tes.com/teaching-resource/french-numbers-0-100-list-freebie-2-12437989 Have a browse in my store for more super simple French vocabulary recall worksheets, and a wide range of other French teaching and learning resources, with French resource boxes special offer bundles and lots of freebies. PRIMARY FRENCH KS3 FRENCH FOR CHILDREN TELLING THE TIME ANALOGUE 10 PAST THE HOUR LIST WITH MATCHING CLOCK FACES The resource is non-editable in a zipped format. It may not be copied, rewritten, amended, shared or distributed outside your own classroom. The license is a single-user license only. Please read the Terms of Use. The resource is free to download, but Terms of Use still apply. I like to give visual vocabulary lists to my young beginner learners of French, as they can generally more easily assimilate new language and vocabulary when they are able to link it in their memory with a visual image, and it’s particularly important to match a clock time with the corresponding clock face when learning how to tell the time. Children glue the lists into their French vocabulary books, or file them in their French vocabulary folders with other vocabulary lists, which gives them an accessible and useful French vocabulary reference bank for both class and home learning. For young and / or beginner French learners, I focus initially on a single time set, and this list shows 10 past the hour on a single page. This is because in my experience students benefit from a very clear outline of new language and vocabulary, avoiding lots of text on a single page - even my older students who are completely new to French prefer this. When I’m sure that students are confident with a particular time set, I then move on to additional time sets. There are two backgrounds to choose from - French flag, which I use for French vocabulary display, or plain.
