The license for purchase is a single-user license only. Please read the Terms of Use. Word searches are a great way of encouraging learners to engage with the written word in Spanish, refreshing and reinforcing language as they complete the grids. These are ten differentiated word searches focusing on the days of the week in Spanish. My students really enjoy practicing their vocabulary with word searches. They like to work independently, either alone, in pairs or in small groups, challenging themselves (and each other!) to progress through the challenges. Word searches are easily differentiated: there are five Spanish to Spanish grids, with the Spanish words as prompts. Students then find them in Spanish in the grid. A great way of really consolidating vocab is to get students to complete the word list on the grid sheet too. There are also five English to Spanish grids. With these, the prompt words are in English, so students have to know the correct Spanish word in order to find it in the grid. There’s a word list to complete on these too. As the challenge increases, the words appear in an increasing number of different directions, and students can identify which directions they’re looking for by referring to the arrow key on each grid. I use the word searches regularly - as starters, refreshers, plenaries, fun-time fillers or activities for sub lessons, at any time during the school year, as well as when I’m introducing days of the week in Spanish. SPANISH CHRISTMAS SPANISH FOR CHILDREN CHRISTMAS WORD SEARCHES BEGINNER SPANISH CHRISTMAS WORD SEARCHES Files are non-editable in a zipped format. Please read the Terms of Use carefully - the resource is copyright, all rights reserved. It may not be copied, rewritten, shared or distributed outside your own classroom in any way. The license for purchase is a single-user license only. Sopas de letras are a fabulous way of encouraging students to engage with the written word in Spanish, refreshing and reinforcing language as they complete the grids. This set features ten differentiated word searches, with each consecutive grid increasing in challenge. It focuses on 33 Spanish Christmas words, which I also use as a prompt to stimulate discussion about Spanish Christmas practices and customs, and we talk about what students know about other Christmas traditions around the world. The nouns feature masculine and feminine, singular and plural and both definite and indefinite articles, which is a great way of working on and consolidating those grammatical concepts too. There are 5 Spanish to Spanish grids, where students are prompted with the Spanish words, and look for them in Spanish in the grid. For additional consolidation, each grid also features an English word list that they have to complete, really putting their knowledge to the test! There are also 5 English to Spanish grids, where the prompt words are given in English, and learners have to find the Spanish equivalent in the grid. For additional consolidation and practice in writing and spelling in Spanish, they also complete the Spanish word list on each page. Students can tell in which direction the words are written by looking at the arrow key on each grid. There is an answer key for each word search, so that students can check their answers - or use for a little extra help if they need it. Answer keys are absolutely essential for me, as they provide students with an additional opportunity to engage with language, help them develop more independence in their learning. There’s a Spanish-English Christmas vocabulary reference sheet - you can either laminate this to share around small groups of students, or give one to each student to stick into their learning workbooks as a general reference resource. Students will have to look carefully at some of the words they’re looking for, as they may appear slightly differently - for example, they may have to find the gifts and work out what that is in Spanish - only the prompt the gift appears in the reference list. Please read the Terms of Use carefully. Ideal for young and beginner Spanish learners. I like to give my language learners comprehensive core vocabulary books and reference resources. They enable them to work more independently, both in class and at home. This Spanish Telling Time Reference Book has 14 pages, and features every analog clock time in Spanish. There’s a My Notes page too - I encourage students to make notes on their progress, and think about how they are progressing. We also use this to inform and guide whole-group discussion about learning and progress in general, which is a really popular and effective activity too. I like to give visual vocabulary guides to my young beginner language learners, as they can generally more easily assimilate new language and vocabulary when they are able to link it in their memory with a visual image. It’s particularly important to match a clock time with the corresponding clock face when learning how to tell time. Students file the guides in their Spanish vocabulary folders with other vocabulary guides, which gives them an accessible and useful Spanish vocabulary reference bank for both class and home learning. For young and / or beginner Spanish learners, I focus initially on a single time set, because in my experience students benefit from a very clear outline of new language and vocabulary, avoiding lots of text on a single page - even my older students who are completely new to Spanish prefer this. When I’m sure that students are confident with o’clock, I then move on to additional time sets. Have a browse in my store for more Spanish resources and freebies. ¡MUCHAS GRACIAS Y BUEN APRENDIZAJE!

The fruits include masculine, feminine, singular and plural, with a blend of definite and indefinite articles - this really helps students think a little more laterally about language, and their new vocab - they may learn la manzana, and it’s useful to give students opportunity to think about grammatical concepts, and how la becomes una for example. There are high-frequency fruits, such as apple or pear, and also fruits which may be new to some learners, such as redcurrant or starfruit. There are a range of phonemes and sounds too, such as the letter j (uvas rojas), which is a sound particular to Spanish, and the letter ñ (piña), as the tilde + n plays a very important role in Spanish pronunciation. The license for purchase is a single-user license only. It is free to download, but Terms of Use still apply. My students have always found these a really useful learning activity. With the structured speaking prompts, they are able to develop confidence in their speaking, working independently in pairs or small groups. At the same time, they are building their vocabulary and enhancing their understanding and knowledge of German grammar too. There are 15 questions with 15 suggested responses. As students become more confident and competent, they begin to rely less on the prompt cards, and answer questions in their own way - and even ask them differently too, if their talk partner is using the answer card as the main prompt. The questions in this freebie are aimed at advanced beginner German to intermediate German students, though my more advanced students enjoy ‘going back to the start’ too, particularly near exam time. There’s a reference sheet, with all the questions and answers written out in full - I always provide a reference resource, and my students like to keep them in their learning folders for longer-term reference. When they create their own questions and answers for each other on the question and answer card template, they also find them really useful as a form of writing frame. I always laminate my language learning cards, even though the prep is a bit time-consuming - they’re far sturdier and easier to use, and will definitely last for years! French verbs dominoes games: 3 games and challenges are a lively alternative to more traditional grammar & vocabulary ‘drilling’ activities. They will help students build up and embed their vocabulary and knowledge of common French verbs in a cooperative, communicative and interactive way, independently of the teacher. There are 99 high-frequency French verbs in the infinitive form, along with the corresponding English verbs. Students can work happily challenging themselves and each other to create a perfect domino bilingual verb sequence, on the classroom floor, or on a long(ish) table, by matching the French and English verbs. The game has a bonus multi-focus on listening, speaking, pronunciation, and reading, and also helps students identify cognates and words that may look similar to English, but mean something different. There are three games, each with a different level of challenge: Challenge One features the verbs in alphabetical order, French to English Challenge Two features the verbs in random order, also French to English Challenge Three again features the verbs in random order, but this time from English to French, which works a little different in terms of vocab recall There’s a full alphabetical French-English verb list, which students find really useful as they begin to build and embed their verb vocabulary - we find it useful to have a quick look through the list prior to playing for the first time, and it’s also really good for some additional whole-group pronunciation practice. Each challenge is on a different background, so that they can be easily identified. To ensure successful learning, play regularly as you work with verbs and vocabulary - against a timer in teams works well to map both improved recall and word recognition, as well as increasing confidence - students genuinely enjoy seeing if they can beat their own time record. There’s definitely prep involved - printing and cutting out. I always laminate my dominoes games, as they’re far more learner-friendly, and they last for absolutely years, so once you’re prepped the set or several sets, you will never have to prep the games again. Learners are able to identify which direction words are located in within the grid by referring to the arrow key. As they move through the grids, their language skills are challenged in a range of ways - from straightforward vocabulary searching, to gap-fill, scrambled letters and more complex questions, which feature mathematical language in French. Hyphens are important in French numbers, and the grids feature these quite clearly, in order to ensure that learners can practice this aspect of language. There is an answer grid for each word search, so that learners can check their answers - or use for a little extra help if they need it. For me, answer keys are essential, as they not only provide learners with another opportunity to engage with language, but they also help them develop more independence in their learning. They’re also a great teacher time-saver - a real bonus! There is a single word search per page, portrait format. I like to ensure that text is accessible to all learners - and at this stage of their learning, it’s absolutely essential that language looks accessible and manageable. There are two formats to choose from - the search grids and answer keys as separate worksheets, and also a file with both grids and answer keys together, so that you can print each grid and key double-sided, according to which suits your classroom needs better. FSL FLE PRIMARY FRENCH IMMERSION FRENCH FOR CHILDREN FRENCH NUMBERS 0-10: TEN DIFFERENTIATED WORD SEARCHES Files are non-editable in a zipped format; the product is copyright, all rights reserved. It may not be copied, rewritten, amended, shared or distributed outside your own classroom in any way. The license for purchase is a single-user license only - please read the Terms of Use carefully. Ideal for Primary French Immersion and beginner French students of all ages and stages, providing them with a great opportunity to engage with the written word in French, at the same time developing essential beginner French vocabulary. They are easily differentiated too: the grids have an increasing level of challenge, to ensure that all students can feel confident about their learning - and lots of chances to keep challenging themselves. I’ve indicated the direction the words are located in the grid with arrows. There are 5 French to French grids, with an additional number vocabulary list to complete for extra spelling practice. I always create English to French grids too - that’s an effective way of consolidating vocabulary, and there’s a vocabulary list to complete too. All the grids have a corresponding answer key, which are essential in order to maximise the learning potential of the activity. They facilitate learner independence, also giving them an additional opportunity to engage with the target language - they also genuinely enjoy assessing their own, and each others’ work. This set is in landscape format, as in my experience young beginner French students, as well as older beginner French students, really benefit from a larger font, and having the language presented in the common direction of reading in both English and French, left to right. The word searches are really versatile, and I use them in lots of different contexts, such as starter and refresher activities, fun-time fillers, sub lessons, or free-choice activity at any time during the school year.
