ESL EFL ELL ENGLISH DAYS MONTHS SEASONS VOCABULARY LIST

(2)
ESL EFL ELL ENGLISH LANGUAGE LEARNING VOCABULARY Days of the Week, Months & Seasons of the Year I create lots of reference resources for my students focusing on high-frequency English Language vocabulary. I’ve found that they’re a really successful learning support resource for learners of all ages, and at all stages of learning, and they’re really popular with my students too. They work well when students keep them carefully in learning files or folders for current and future reference. They also work well laminated for small-group work in class. I designed this specifically for my young and/or beginner learners of English, with a large font - this is because in my experience students benefit from a very clear outline of new language and vocabulary, avoiding lots of text on a single page - even my older students who are completely new to English prefer this. There are two backgrounds to choose from - UK flag, which I tend to use for vocab display, or black wave. I like the visual aspect of a background for language learners, who do have a lot of vocab to work through and learn - the background definitely makes lists more visually appealing for learners. ESL EFL ENGLISH FOR CHILDREN ADVANCED BEGINNER ENGLISH INTERMEDIATE ENGLISH DATES, DAYS, MONTHS & SEASONS TASK CARDS The product is non-editable in a zipped format, It is copyright, all rights reserved. It may not be copied, rewritten, amended, shared or distributed outside your own classroom in any way. The license for purchase is a single-user license only. Please read the Terms of Use. Ideal for advanced beginner English into intermediate English, and really do help to create a lively language learning environment. Students can develop, embed, reinforce and refresh their knowledge of this essential English language in a cooperative, communicative and interactive way, independently of the teacher. The questions have a multi-skill focus on listening, speaking, pronunciation, reading and spelling. The questions range in complexity and challenge, and some call upon prior knowledge too, helping students make links and build bridges in their learning. There may be some words students are not familiar with - these questions give them the opportunity to learn and apply new language too, which is essential for progress in language learning. There is a significant amount of practice and consolidation of language and grammar, such as word order, punctuation, nuances of spoken versus written language, tense, and ordinal / cardinal numbers. This maximizes the learning potential of the activity, which I take further when we look at multiple choice questions seeking to identify errors - being able to identify errors, and explain what is inaccurate, is again a really important language learning skill, and really helps students progress successfully in their learning. The question card template enables students to apply their knowledge of language creatively and practically, and it’s a really popular activity too - my students really enjoy creating questions for each other. The resource comprises the following non-editable files: = 36 differentiated question cards, 4 per A4 (8.5 x 11) paper. Laminating is definitely worth the extra prep time and expense, as the cards are far more learner-friendly, and remain in excellent condition for years. = answer key & answer recording sheet I tend to use these for more formal assessment purposes, so for class work, my students use their work notebook, which also saves on prep and paper. = vocabulary reference sheet Have a browse in my store for more ESL English resources, including dollar deals, special offer bundles, and freebies. There are high-frequency fruits, such as apple or pear, and also fruits which may be new to some learners, such as redcurrant or starfruit. There are a range of phonemes and sounds too, such as the letter j (uvas rojas), which is a sound particular to Spanish, and the letter ñ (piña), as the tilde + n plays a very important role in Spanish pronunciation. SPANISH FRUITS WORD SEARCH Sopas de Letras are a fabulous way of encouraging learners to engage with the written word in Spanish, refreshing and reinforcing language as they complete the grids. This freebie features a fruits word search with answer key, perfect for beginner Spanish learners of all grades. The fruits include masculine, feminine, singular and plural, with a blend of definite and indefinite articles - this really helps learners think a little more creatively about language, and their new Spanish vocabulary - they may learn la manzana, and it’s useful to give students opportunity to think about grammatical concepts, and how la becomes una for example. There is a Spanish to English grid, where learners are prompted with the Spanish word, and look for them in Spanish in the grid. For additional consolidation, each grid also features an English word list that they have to complete, really putting their knowledge to the test! Learners can tell in which direction the words are written by looking at the arrow key on each grid. Having a good bilingual dictionary to hand is also a good idea, as this provides a further focus on developing literacy in both Spanish and English, and facilitates learner independence. There is an answer key grid, so that learners can check their answers - or use for a little extra help if they need it. Answer keys are really essential - they offer learners an additional opportunity to engage with language, and they genuinely enjoy ‘correcting’ their own, and particularly each others’ work! They’re a great teacher time-saver too, which is always a good thing! The word search is in landscape format, as I’ve found this to be the best format for beginner language learners. SPANISH CONJUGATION DRILLS SAMPLER I’ve created a lot of ‘quick conjugation workbooks’ for my students and they’re really popular and effective. I use them in a range of learning contexts such as independent work either in class time or at home, holiday refresher work, or individual activities for cover lessons. Students really benefit from several opportunities to work through the workbook, once or twice a term across a whole school year is a great way of both mapping progress and developing overall understanding and competence. My quick conjugation workbooks focus on a specific set of 25 essential Spanish verbs in a range of tenses. They include modals, regular, and irregular verbs. This sampler demonstrates a range of Spanish conjugation challenges, with the answer key immediately following the relevant conjugation questions. It will definitely give you an idea of what the quick conjugation workbooks look like, and how they are structured, and whether you think they’ll work well for your students. FSL FLE FRENCH-SPEAKING COUNTRIES WORD WALL DISPLAY LES PAYS FRANCOPHONES I like my learners to understand the scope of the French-speaking world from the very beginning of their learning - it gives them a real understanding of the importance of French, and how widely it is spoken throughout the world. It’s easy to create and instant introduction to Les pays francophones with the word wall showing a range of world countries and territories where French is an official language and / or very widely-spoken. Each card shows the continent, country and capital city in French, and its national flag, and together they give the classroom a great multicultural look and feel. At the same time, the word wall promotes French as a living language, spoken across the globe, and featuring in the everyday life of your learning environment. There may be a number of countries and capital cities that students do not know, or are not aware of, so the word wall definitely helps them fully develop their general awareness, knowledge and understanding of world geography as well as la Francophonie - students are often genuinely amazed at the scope of the French-speaking world - French is spoken on every continent! I’ve used the definite article, as I’ve found that this helps embed the concept of gender in French, and that proper nouns, such as countries, are subject to gender agreement rules too There are two cards per 8.5 x 11 (A4) page in landscape format - the fonts is sufficiently large for students to be able to read from various locations in the classroom, which ensures you can definitely get the most from it - we do lots of recall and recognition games, spelling and geography quizzes and so on. At that point students can move swiftly on to looking at conjugation and using the verbs in a communicative and practical context, enabling them to produce more detailed and descriptive language. Please read the Terms of Use carefully. 25 high-frequency German separable verbs, 150 conjugation questions, 3 differentiated challenges, answer keys ideal for advanced beginner German students who are beginning to work with compound sentences and longer texts, and intermediate German students who are revising tense and conjugation. My students really like this kind of grammar activity, as they like to work and learn independently, which is a successful way of varying teaching and learning methodologies - I’ve found it’s really important to avoid predominantly teacher-led learning in the languages classroom. The focus is on common separable prefixes such as ab, an, aus, ein, um and zu. Prefixes such as entlang and entgegen are not included in this particular collection of verbs. The resource has the following structure: Two alphabetical verb reference lists: German-English and English-German. Three conjugation challenges, each with 50 individual conjugations: Conjugation Challenge 1: each verb conjugated in German across a range of pronouns, with students writing the corresponding English verb conjugation. It is free to download, but Terms of Use still apply. *** 25 high-frequency Spanish verbs, listed alphabetically Spanish-English and English-Spanish ideal as a year-round reference resource, and students find it particularly useful for exam revision, whether working in class time or at home. It’s useful for advanced beginner Spanish students to provide a language learning map, for intermediate Spanish students who are working with more complex language and texts, including authentic resources, and advanced Spanish students as a vocabulary audit and enrichment. The verbs are all in the infinitive form and include regular and irregular Spanish verbs. It’s important in language learning to ensure that students quickly develop a useful Spanish verb vocabulary bank, are able to recognize high-frequency Spanish verbs, and are confident with the meaning of those verbs in their first or home language. At that point students can move swiftly on to looking at conjugation and using the verbs in a communicative and practical context, enabling them to produce more detailed and descriptive language. This is an integral element to successful language learning. Students shouldn’t take on the task of learning long lists of verbs or other vocabulary all at once though: frequent and regular use in real-world practical contexts is far more successful at embedding vocabulary into longer-term memory. I also use the books for quick vocabulary quizzes, again at frequent and regular intervals - I simply shout out the Spanish or English verb, the first student or team to shout out the correct answer wins a point. I’ve found this to be a really successful alternative to more formal vocabulary testing. The list is a great time-saver for teachers too - if you’re preparing resources focusing on high-frequency Spanish verbs for your students, the list is a good starting point. There are two backgrounds to choose from - Spanish flag, which I tend to use for Spanish vocabulary display or Spanish grammar display, and plain.
