FRENCH ADJECTIVES LIST FREEBIE #1

FSL FLE BEGINNER FRENCH VOCABULARY INTERMEDIATE FRENCH VOCABULARY FRENCH ADJECTIVES LIST FREEBIE Files are non-editable in a zipped format. The product is copyright, all rights reserved. It may not be copied, rewritten, amended, shared or distributed outside your own classroom in any way. The license is a single-user license only. The product is free to download, but Terms of Use still apply. A great instant reference resource for students focusing on high-frequency French adjectives. I’ve found that the lists are a great learning support resource, and they’re really popular with students too. They work well when students keep them carefully in learning files or folders for current and future reference. They also work well printed double-sided and laminated for small-group work in class. This list is a first collection of 25 high-frequency French adjectives that I’ve found are ideal for beginner French into intermediate French learning programs - it’s an important step in language learning to ensure that students quickly develop a useful French adjectives vocabulary bank, are able to recognize French adjectives, and are confident with the meaning of those adjectives in English - at that point we can move swiftly on to looking at adjectival agreement, producing more complex and descriptive language, and using the adjectives in a communicative and practical context, which is essential for progressing in language learning. The purpose of the list isn’t to simply learn all 25 adjectives by rote: it’s a longer-term reference resource that students use for example when they’re writing creatively, preparing written texts, or working with their talk partner to develop speaking skills. My students also use their vocabulary reference lists to help them audit their developing French vocabulary in general. There are two alphabetical lists - one French-English, and one English-French, as I’ve found that most language students prefer to have both as a reference resource. There are two backgrounds to choose from - French flag (which is good for French vocabulary display), and plain white. The list is a great time-saver for teachers too - if you’re preparing resources focusing on adjectives in French for your students, the list is a good starting point. Have a browse in my store for more French vocabulary lists, and a wide range of other French teaching and learning resources, with French dollar deals, special offer bundles, and lots of freebies too. The product is copyright, all rights reserved. It may not be copied, rewritten, shared or distributed in any way. The license is a single-user license only. Please read the Terms of Use. The product is free to download, but Terms of Use still apply. 25 high-frequency French reflexive verbs, listed alphabetically French-English and English-French ideal as a year-round reference resource, and students find it particularly useful for exam revision, whether working in class time or at home. It’s useful for advanced beginner French students to provide a language learning map and for intermediate French students who are working with more complex language and texts, including authentic resources, and as a French vocabulary audit and enrichment. The verbs are all in the infinitive form and feature high-frequency French reflexive verbs that I work with in the advanced beginner to intermediate stages of my French learning programs. It’s important in language learning to ensure that students quickly develop a useful French verbs vocabulary bank, are able to recognize high-frequency French verbs, and are confident with the meaning of those verbs in their first or home language. At that point students can move swiftly on to looking at French conjugation and using the verbs in a communicative and practical context, enabling them to produce more detailed and descriptive language. This is an integral element to successful language learning. Students shouldn’t take on the task of learning long lists of verbs or other vocabulary all at once though: frequent and regular use in real-world practical contexts is far more successful at embedding vocabulary into longer-term memory. I also use the books for quick vocabulary quizzes, again at frequent and regular intervals - I simply shout out the French or English verb, the first student or team to shout out the correct answer wins a point. I’ve found this to be a really successful alternative to more formal vocabulary testing. The list is a great time-saver for teachers too - if you’re preparing resources focusing on high-frequency French reflexive verbs for your students, the list is a good starting point. There are two backgrounds to choose from - French flag, which I generally use for French vocabulary display or French grammar display, and plain. The license is a single-user license only. Please read the Terms of Use. The product is free to download, but Terms of Use still apply. These four my favorite color posters make an ideal speaking prompt in the Primary French Immersion classroom - I encourage students to ask each other Quelle est ta couleur préférée? as a lesson starter / warm-up, and to select a different color every time they answer. As they learn more colors, their answers become more varied. I tend to introduce the plural form with the connective et (and) quite quickly, so that students can extend their answers as much as they possibly can - they have great fun seeing who knows the most colors, and can create the longest answers. The key colors are: blue, green, pink and yellow. There are two backgrounds to choose from - either the French flag, or black wave, so 8 flashcards / posters in total. Use them as flashcards to introduce and practice language too - it’s a traditional and successful low-tech teaching method, which gives students a welcome break from the whiteboard - varying teaching methodologies in the language learning classroom is always a good idea, and I also encourage my students to take the role of the teacher too, which they find really motivating. It doesn’t matter if this particular language doesn’t feature in your immediate or even longer-term learning plan: the flashcards / posters provide learners with daily opportunities to engage with the written word in French, to develop their recognition and recall of individual words, to identify cognates, and to begin to link spelling with sound in French. These four adjectival agreement flashcards / posters, with a focus on the color vert, make an***ideal grammar and speaking prompt*** in the Primary French Immersion classroom - I encourage students to look carefully at the differences between le monstre vert and la voiture verte in the singular, and les montres verts and les voitures vertes in the plural. Giving learners the opportunity to look very closely at language, to identify ***similarities and differences ***with their first language, as well as rules and patterns in the target language, is a really key language teaching and learning strategy. I use high-frequency beginner French vocabulary to do this, for both younger and older learners. As they build up their vocab, with increasing understanding of gender, they are able to apply those rules and patterns to new language. I use questions such as Vrai ou faux ? Le monstre verte ? , really emphasising, even exaggerating pronunciation, so that they can hear the difference in agreement. I often write the questions on the whiteboard too, as it’s equally important that they are able to recognize the differences in the written words too, and to link sound with spelling - all of this means I really make the most from my classroom learning decor. The product is free to download, but Terms of Use still apply. Perfect for advanced beginner German students, who are working regularly with compound sentences and more complex texts, and intermediate German students, who are refreshing prior knowledge. German separable verbs can be quite a challenging concept for English-speaking German learners, and I’ve found that focused practice really helps them consolidate their understanding of how to conjugate them accurately, particularly the location of the separable prefix at the end of the clause. This kind of activity really does help to create a lively language learning environment. Students can develop, embed, reinforce and refresh their conjugation skills in a cooperative, communicative and interactive way, independently of the teacher. The questions have a bonus multi-skill focus on listening, speaking, pronunciation, reading and spelling. They’re great for helping students familiarise themselves with, and develop competence in, speaking, reading, writing and spelling in German in general, and certainly in conjugating German separable verbs in the present tense in particular. The cards are useful not only when you’re focusing on German conjugation, but also as an all-year-round starter, plenary and general ‘pick-me-up’ activity, as the goal is not simply to learn how conjugation works, and how patterns can be identified and applied, it’s also about enjoying working with German, and to feel confident about doing so. I like to have different set of task cards ready in folders for free-choice time, where students can choose a particular target focus that they feel they need to work a little more on, and certainly verb conjugation is a really popular choice. Try this set of 48 differentiated task cards for a real focus on German separable verbs in the present tense ($3): GERMAN SEPARABLE VERBS PRESENT TENSE : 48 DIFFERENTIATED TASK CARDS WITH ANSWER KEY & RECORDING SHEET https://www.tes.com/teaching-resource/german-separable-verbs-present-tense-task-cards-12715211 Have a browse in my store for more German independent learning activities, and a wide range of other German teaching and learning materials, with German dollar deals, special offer bundles, and lots freebies. I like to have sets of super simple worksheets that I can give to my young beginner learners of German, not only when they’re new to the target vocabulary, but also for refreshing and revising language they’ve learnt some time ago. Students can generally more easily assimilate new language and vocabulary when they are able to link it in their memory with a visual image, and it’s particularly important to match a clock time with the corresponding clock face when learning how to tell time. I give my students these worksheets when I’m introducing o’clock in German, so that they can practice and embed both recognizing the time, and writing the time phrase itself. Students really enjoy the opportunity to test their recall too. The worksheets are useful in a number of contexts: I use them for sub lessons, as starters, plenaries, five-minute refreshers and home learning activities. I occasionally use them for more formal assessment purposes too. Students also find this How to tell time in German o’clock list freebie helpful: HOW TO TELL TIME IN GERMAN : O’CLOCK LIST FREEBIE https://www.tes.com/teaching-resource/german-telling-the-time-o-clock-list-freebie-12316801 Have a browse in my store for more German super simple worksheets, and a wide range of other German teaching and learning materials, with German dollar deals, special offer bundles, and lots of freebies. It may not be copied, shared, amended, rewritten or distributed, in whole or in part, outside your own classroom in any way. The license is a single-user license only. The product is free to download, but Terms of Use still apply. I encourage my beginner Italian students of all ages and stages to build up comprehensive vocabulary banks that they can reference easily whenever they need it, and they’re also really useful for regular vocabulary audits, which really helps students map their progress and keep track of their learning. Students take responsibility for organizing their own learning materials from the very beginning of their learning, keeping them carefully in vocabulary learning files or folders. My students all have reference resource binders or files - these can have a range of formats - for instance, sticking into a large exercise book, or punching holes down the left-hand side, and adding to files. We also use twine or thick string, which young Italian learners really enjoy making. I also use this kind of vocabulary list for quick vocabulary quizzes, spelling competitions and so on, and it also works well laminated for small-group work in class time. The font size is fairly large, as ensuring that language is clear and accessible is essential for beginner language learners, as they begin to familiarize themselves with words and spelling systems in a new language. I have also uploaded a number reference sheet I give my more experienced Italian learners - it’s in landscape format, with all the numbers on a single sheet, so the font size is smaller - students who’ve been learning Italian for a while are comfortable with quite a lot of text on a single page. Have a look at it here: ITALIAN NUMBERS 0-100 LIST FREEBIE #2 https://www.tes.com/teaching-resource/italian-numbers-0-100-list-freebie-2-12439282 There are two backgrounds to choose from - Italian flag, which I generally use for Italian vocabulary display, and plain. Students can develop, embed, reinforce and refresh their knowledge of French numbers in a cooperative, communicative and interactive way, independently of the teacher. They have a bonus multi-skill focus on listening, speaking, pronunciation, reading and spelling. They’re great for helping beginner French students familiarize themselves with, and develop competence in, speaking, reading, writing and spelling longer words in French. The cards are useful not only when you’re focusing on French Numbers 0-31, but also for sub lessons, as an all-year-round starter, plenary and general ‘pick-me-up’ activity, as the goal is not simply to learn how to count in French, but also to enjoy working with French, and to feel confident about doing so. All questions are in French, and range in complexity and challenge, both in terms of language and number skills. I’ve used visual prompts such as math symbols to ensure all learners can engage with the questions, and this helps them to begin to infer meaning from context, and to decode cues and prompts to foster understanding. I don’t allow the use of calculators to increase the challenge a little. Some questions focus specifically on French math language, which students do not always engage with very often. The level of math is fairly simple, but certainly draws on prior number and arithmetic learning. I’ve labelled the cards A-L, so that if you have the set of 48 task cards, you can use them together. They’re great for helping students familiarise themselves with, and develop competence in, speaking, reading, writing and spelling in French in general, and certainly in conjugating French ER verbs in the present tense in particular. The questions range in complexity and challenge, and some call upon prior and new knowledge too, helping students make links and build bridges in their learning. There may be some vocabulary that students are not familiar with - these questions give them the opportunity to learn and apply new language too. Other grammatical concepts are addressed in the questions too, such as gender agreement, direct and indirect objects, personal pronouns and question formats in French. The set comprises the following non-editable files: 12 differentiated question cards 4 per A4 (8.5 x 11) paper. The card size allows for more complex sentences, and equally importantly for a font size that is sufficiently large to ensure that language is accessible to students, who are generally at the more initial stages of their French programmes. answer key answer keys are integral to this kind of learning activity: they provide students with additional opportunity to engage with language and help them develop more independence in their learning. To keep prep to a minimum, the answers are given across two pages of A4, which I print double-sided. Here, the text is a little dense, so some students may need additional support if they find the text too small to access successfully. Die Farben auf Deutsch - 8 posters / flashcards These four my favorite color posters make an ideal speaking prompt in the elementary German classroom - I encourage children to ask each other Was ist deine Lieblingsfarbe? as a lesson starter / warm-up, and to select a different color every time they answer. As they learn more colors, their answers become more varied. I tend to introduce the plural form with the connective und (and) quite quickly, so that children can extend their answers as much as they possibly can - they have great fun seeing who knows the most colors, and can create the longest answers. The key colors are: blue, green, pink and yellow. There are two backgrounds to choose from - either the German flag, or black wave. Laminate the posters if possible, or print on card stock, particularly if you’re going to use them as flashcards to introduce and practice language too: they’ll hang really nicely, stay in good shape, and you’ll be able to use the posters for many years to come! Die Farben auf deutsch 12 posters / flashcards These four adjectival agreement posters, with a focus on the color grün, make an ideal grammar and speaking prompt in the German classroom - for example, I encourage children to look carefully at the similarities and differences between der grüne Regenschirm and die grüne Flasche in the singular, and die grünen Regenschirme and die grünen Flaschen in the plural. Giving learners the opportunity to look very closely at language, to identify similarities and differences with their first language, as well as rules and patterns in the target language, is a really key language teaching and learning strategy. I use high-frequency beginner German vocabulary to do this, for both younger and older learners. As they build up their vocab, with increasing understanding of gender, they are able to apply those rules and patterns to new language. I use questions such as Richtig der falsch? die grüne Regenschirme? , really emphasising, even exaggerating pronunciation, so that they can hear the difference in agreement. I often write the questions on the whiteboard too, as it’s equally important that they are able to recognize the differences in the written words too, and to link sound with spelling - all of this means I really make the most from my classroom learning decor. The product is free to download, but Terms of Use still apply. A great instant reference resource for students focusing on high-frequency German adjectives. I’ve found that the lists are a great learning support resource, and they’re really popular with students too. They work well when students keep them carefully in learning files or folders for current and future reference. They also work well printed double-sided and laminated for small-group work in class. This list is a first collection of 25 high-frequency German adjectives that I’ve found are ideal for beginner German into intermediate German learning programs - it’s an important step in learning is to ensure that students quickly develop a useful German adjectives vocabulary bank, are able to recognize German adjectives, and are confident with the meaning of those adjectives in English - at that point we can move swiftly on to looking at adjectival endings and agreement, producing more complex and descriptive language, and using the adjectives in a communicative and practical context, which is essential for progressing in language learning. The purpose of the list isn’t to simply learn all 25 adjectives by rote: it’s a longer-term reference resource that students use for example when they’re writing creatively, preparing written texts, or working with their talk partner to develop speaking skills. My students also use their vocabulary reference lists to help them audit their developing German vocabulary in general. The list is a great time-saver for teachers too - if you’re preparing resources focusing on adjectives in German for your students, the list is a good starting point. There are two alphabetical lists - one German-English, and one English-German, as I’ve found that language learners prefer to have both as a reference resource. There are two backgrounds to choose from - German flag, which I generally use for German grammar display, and plain.
