French-speaking countries, capital cities and flags game cards provide great cross-curricular learning opportunities for any appropriate age group, at any time of the school year. Students can develop their language skills, as well as their knowledge of both the French-speaking and wider world, in a cooperative, communicative and interactive way, independently of the teacher.
The set features 41 countries / territories where French is an official language, with each picture card showing the continent and national flag, and the corresponding text card detailing continent, country and capital city. There is a set of detachable continent, country and capital city labels. Labelling is a really successful and popular learning activity.
There may be a number of countries and capital cities that students do not know, or are not aware of, so the games help them fully develop their general awareness, knowledge and understanding of Les pays francophones. I’ve used the definite article, as I’ve found that this helps embed the concept of gender in French, and that proper nouns, such as countries, are subject to gender agreement rules too.
There is a country, capital city and flag reference list of all countries and capital cities, including the continent on which each is located. Students find it useful to read this through before playing I generally allow them only 60 seconds on a timer to really focus their reading and increase the sense of competition if we are playing competitive team games. I’ve described a range of popular games and activities in the product pack.
The list can also be used as a year-round reference resource, which students can file in their workbooks or learning files. Laminate the cards and reference sheets if you can - it’s really worth the extra prep time and expense, as they’re far more learner-friendly, and remain in excellent condition for years. Play regularly for maximum learning potential.

I generally work with telling time in Italian quite quickly with my beginner Italian students, as it lends itself really well to promoting speaking in Italian class, discussing daily routines for example.
There are two questions: Che ora è? (1 o’clock, 5 past one etc) / Che ore sono? with a particular clock face, and students write the response on their recording sheet or in their workbooks. The second question is Vero o falso? and students write either vero or falso - where the answer is falso, remind students to write the correct time for additional consolidation.
The set comprises the following non-editable files:
= 60 question cards, 10 per A4 (8.5 x 11) paper
= answer key & recording sheet
Laminate the cards if you can - they’re far more learner-friendly, and remain in excellent condition for years.

ENGLISH FOR FRENCH SPEAKERS ENGLISH FRUITS TASK CARDS
ANGLAIS ESL EFL ENGLISH FRUITS TASK CARDS FOR FRENCH-SPEAKING LEARNERS OF ENGLISH
This resource consists of non-editable files in a zipped format. It is copyright, all rights reserved. It may not be copied, rewritten, shared or distributed outside your own classroom in any way. The license for purchase is a single-user license only. Please read the Terms of Use carefully.
English Fruits Task Cards really do help to create a lively language learning environment. Students can develop, embed, reinforce and refresh their knowledge of fruits in English in a cooperative, communicative and interactive way, independently of the teacher. They have a bonus multi-skill focus on listening, speaking, pronunciation, reading and spelling. They’re great for helping students familiarize themselves with, and develop competence in, speaking, reading, writing and spelling longer words and more complex sentences in English. Sentence structure and word order may differ from students’ first and/or home language, so it’s important to provide them with opportunities to engage with language that moves beyond single-unit vocabulary as soon as possible.
The questions are all in English, and range in complexity and challenge. I usually read through questions before my students work with the cards for the first time, to ensure that everyone understands any new or unknown language and structures. There are 35 fruits addressed in the task cards, and it’s unlikely that they are all in your teaching and learning plan. I always include additional vocabulary to add a little challenge, and to encourage students to think a little more creatively and independently. I’ve used definite, indefinite and partitive article, and singular and plural - this really helps students familiarize themselves with grammatical concepts, including the lack of noun gender in English, without explicit instruction. There are some translation questions too - both from French to English and English to French, which is a great introduction to translation for beginner to intermediate learners. I explain that there are several possible correct alternatives, as translation is not a word-for-word activity, which is definitely useful for them to know from the very beginning of their learning.
The question card template enables students to apply their knowledge of language and grammatical concepts creatively and practically too - my students really enjoy creating questions for each other, and I encourage them to use the existing questions as a frame of reference as they create their own.
The resource comprises the following non-editable files:
Set of 36 question cards, 4 per A4 (8.5 x 11) paper
2-page answer recording sheet
2-page answer key
2-page alphabetical fruits list, English-French & French-English

Two sets of ten word searches @ $3.75 each in the bundle 20 differentiated word searches with answer keys

Mots cachés are a fabulous way of encouraging learners to engage with the written word in French, refreshing and reinforcing language as they complete the grids. This mini-bundle features two sets of 10 differentiated word searches & answer keys, with each consecutive grid increasing in challenge.
The focus is on key beginner French vocabulary:
= les nombres en français zéro à dix : French numbers 0-10
= les nombres en français zéro à vingt : French numbers 0-20
In each set, there are 5 French to French grids, where students are prompted with French words, and look for them in French in the grid. For additional consolidation, each grid also features an English word list that they have to complete, really putting their knowledge to the test.
There are also 5 English to French grids, where the prompt words are given in English, and students have to find the French equivalent in the grid. For additional consolidation and practice in writing in French, they also complete the French word list on each page. Students can tell in which direction the words are written by looking at the arrow key on each grid.
There is an answer key for each word search, so that learners can check their answers - or use for a little extra help if they need it. The word searches are in landscape format, as this mirrors the common direction of reading from left to right in English, facilitating learner engagement with the word searches.
Answer keys are an essential and integral element of the learning activity: they provide students with an additional opportunity to engage with language, also helping them develop more independence in their learning. They genuinely enjoy correcting their own - and especially each others’ work - and they’re a great teacher time-saver too, which is always a good thing!
Use for cover lessons, as starters, refreshers, plenaries or fun-time fillers at any time during the school year, as well as when you’re introducing this particular target language in French.
Try this French Fruits Word Searches freebie - the format is the same as these word searches, and you can see whether they will work for your learners:

Ideal for Primary French Immersion and beginner French students of all ages and stages, providing them with a great opportunity to engage with the written word in French, at the same time developing essential beginner French vocabulary. They are easily differentiated too: the grids have an increasing level of challenge, to ensure that all students can feel confident about their learning - and lots of chances to keep challenging themselves. I’ve indicated the direction the words are located in the grid with arrows.
There are 5 French to French grids, with an additional number vocabulary list to complete for extra spelling practice. I always create English to French grids too - that’s an effective way of consolidating vocabulary, and there’s a vocabulary list to complete too.
All the grids have a corresponding answer key, which are essential in order to maximise the learning potential of the activity. They facilitate learner independence, also giving them an additional opportunity to engage with the target language - they also genuinely enjoy assessing their own, and each others’ work. This set is in landscape format, as in my experience young beginner French students, as well as older beginner French students, really benefit from a larger font, and having the language presented in the common direction of reading in both English and French, left to right.
The word searches are really versatile, and I use them in lots of different contexts, such as starter and refresher activities, fun-time fillers, sub lessons, or free-choice activity at any time during the school year.

Ideal for advanced beginner English into intermediate English, and really do help to create a lively language learning environment. Students can develop, embed, reinforce and refresh their knowledge of this essential English language in a cooperative, communicative and interactive way, independently of the teacher. The questions have a multi-skill focus on listening, speaking, pronunciation, reading and spelling.
The questions range in complexity and challenge, and some call upon prior knowledge too, helping students make links and build bridges in their learning. There may be some words students are not familiar with - these questions give them the opportunity to learn and apply new language too, which is essential for progress in language learning. There is a significant amount of practice and consolidation of language and grammar, such as word order, punctuation, nuances of spoken versus written language, tense, and ordinal / cardinal numbers. This maximizes the learning potential of the activity, which I take further when we look at multiple choice questions seeking to identify errors - being able to identify errors, and explain what is inaccurate, is again a really important language learning skill, and really helps students progress successfully in their learning.
The question card template enables students to apply their knowledge of language creatively and practically, and it’s a really popular activity too - my students really enjoy creating questions for each other.
The resource comprises the following non-editable files:
= 36 differentiated question cards, 4 per A4 (8.5 x 11) paper. Laminating is definitely worth the extra prep time and expense, as the cards are far more learner-friendly, and remain in excellent condition for years.
= answer key & answer recording sheet I tend to use these for more formal assessment purposes, so for class work, my students use their work notebook, which also saves on prep and paper.
= vocabulary reference sheet

These English Christmas Numbers 0-31 task cards are perfect for beginner English and advanced beginner English anguage learners, and really do help to create a lively language learning environment. I’ve found lesson around the Christmas period are a great time for revisiting and practicing language and structures we’ve looked at over the semester. The cards have a bonus multi-skill focus on listening, speaking, pronunciation, reading and spelling. They’re great for helping students familiarize themselves with, and develop competence in, speaking, reading, writing and spelling in English in general, and certainly in English numbers in particular.
The questions range in complexity and challenge, not only in terms of calculation, but also in terms of the level of English - they are definitely aimed at advanced beginner English and students moving into intermediate English, rather than new or recent beginners. Most learners will be able to infer meaning from context and images, which have a real UK-Christmas theme, such as mince pies and Christmas crackers, and vocabulary is repeated throughout, giving learners a chance to familiarize themselves with it. Nonetheless, it can be useful to read through the questions with the whole class first to check everyone is able to access the language, and therefore the activity, successfully. Students really do benefit in terms of language learning if they have several opportunities to work with the cards, rather than simply working with them in a single lesson.
The resource comprises the following non-editable files:
= 36 differentiated question cards, 4 per A4 (8.5 x 11) paper
= answer key & answer recording sheet

There are five search grids with corresponding answer keys. Learners are able to identify which direction words are located in within the grid by referring to the arrow key. For additional consolidation, they also rewrite each word in the word column. There are also five question and answer key grid templates for learners to create their own searches for each other — this is a really popular activity, and I’ve found that my learners often like to create grids for family at home too. The templates enable learners to apply their language practically and creatively, which is really important at this stage of language development. We also discuss Christmas traditions and practices in our home and other countries, and this gives an additional opportunity to add words and phrases they can use in their own word searches.
There is an answer key for each word search, so that learners can check their answers - or use for a little extra help if they need it, For me, answer keys are essential, as they not only provide learners with an additional opportunity to engage with language, but they also help them develop more independence in their learning. They’re also a great teacher time-saver - a real bonus!
The word searches are in landscape format, with a single grid per 8.5 x 11 (A4) sheet, which allows for a decent font size in the grid - I like to ensure that text is accessible to all learners - and at this stage of their learning, it’s absolutely essential that language looks accessible and manageable.
Have a look at this English Numbers 0-10 word search freebie - it’s the same format as these word searches, and you can see if they will suit your learners:

These English Christmas Numbers 0-31 task cards are perfect for advanced beginner English learners, and really do help to create a lively language learning environment. I’ve found that lessons around the Christmas period are a great time for revisiting and practising language and structures we’ve looked at over the semester.
The questions are entirely in English, and students can develop, embed, reinforce and refresh their developing knowledge of English in a cooperative, communicative and interactive way, independently of the teacher. They have a bonus multi-skill focus on listening, speaking, pronunciation, reading and spelling.
Most learners will be able to infer meaning from context and images, which have a real England/UK Christmas theme, such as Christmas crackers and mince pies, with vocabulary and structures repeated throughout, giving learners a chance to familiarise themselves really well with them. Nonetheless, it can be useful to read through the questions with the whole class first to check everyone is able to access the language, and therefore the activity, successfully. Students really do benefit in terms of language learning if they have regular and frequent opportunities to work with the cards, rather than simply working with them in a single lesson.
The English Christmas vocabulary provides a really useful springboard for discussion about Christmas customs and traditions in England and the UK, comparing and contrasting these to other Christmas practices students may know.
The resource comprises the following non-editable files:

FRENCH TELLING TIME I HAVE, WHO HAS? #1

A lively whole-group multi-skill language learning game, ideal for Primary French Immersion / Elementary French and Beginner French students. The repetitive nature of the questions and answers, supported by the visual prompt of the clock faces, makes it perfect for practicing, reinforcing & refreshing how to tell time in French, and for pronunciation practice too.
There are 8 clock faces per page, and I cut the cards in sets of 2, so four larger cards per page. This means that students can see two clock faces and times per game card, which really helps to consolidate learning. It’s also a lot less prep than cutting out eight individual cards, though I do actually have a set like this, which we use as a larger-size dominoes game.
I always laminate my language learning cards - it’s definitely worth the extra prep time and expense, as they’re more learner-friendly, and remain in excellent condition for years. The aim of the game is to arrange the clocks in the relevant order. Students will generally have several cards each, depending on the size of your class. We usually set the cards on a table, so that students can see the timeline clearly. I frequently use a timer when we play. Playing in teams, using either a single challenge, or with both challenges together, is really popular - students find the competitive element really motivating and are genuinely keen to see which team can finish first, and whether they can beat their own time record. The games also work well as pair or small-group games.
There are two games, each with a different challenge:
= Challenge 1: with all the the clock times in numerical order, J’ai… Qui a… ?
= Challenge 2: with the all the clock times in random order, which really helps recall and embedding new language, as students often learn time phrases in numerical order, As-tu… ? Oui (Non), j’ai…
