Please read the Terms of Use. The product is free to download, but Terms of Use still apply. French Numbers 0-31 Task Cards really do help to create a lively language learning environment. Students can develop, embed, reinforce and refresh their knowledge of French numbers in a cooperative, communicative and interactive way, independently of the teacher. They have a bonus multi-skill focus on listening, speaking, pronunciation, reading and spelling. They’re great for helping beginner French students familiarize themselves with, and develop competence in, speaking, reading, writing and spelling longer words in French. The cards are useful not only when you’re focusing on French Numbers 0-31, but also for sub lessons, as an all-year-round starter, plenary and general ‘pick-me-up’ activity, as the goal is not simply to learn how to count in French, but also to enjoy working with French, and to feel confident about doing so. All questions are in French, and range in complexity and challenge, both in terms of language and number skills. I’ve used visual prompts such as math symbols to ensure all learners can engage with the questions, and this helps them to begin to infer meaning from context, and to decode cues and prompts to foster understanding. I don’t allow the use of calculators to increase the challenge a little. Some questions focus specifically on French math language, which students do not always engage with very often. The level of math is fairly simple, but certainly draws on prior number and arithmetic learning. I’ve labelled the cards A-L, so that if you have the set of 48 task cards, you can use them together. Have a look at the set of 48 differentiated task cards focusing on French Numbers 0-31: FRENCH NUMBERS 0-31 : 48 DIFFERENTIATED TASK CARDS WITH ANSWER KEY & RECORDING SHEET https://www.tes.com/teaching-resource/french-numbers-0-31-task-cards-12805892 Have a browse in my store for more French independent learning activities, and a wide range of other French teaching and learning materials, with French dollar deals, special offer bundles, and lots of freebies. ENGLISH CONVERSATION STARTERS FREEBIE

ADVANCED BEGINNER ENGLISH INTERMEDIATE ENGLISH ADVANCED INTERMEDIATE ENGLISH CONVERSATION STARTERS FREEBIE 10 cards in question format Speaking is a language skill that learners tend to find very challenging, and increased engagement with language that requires them to both reproduce language they are already familiar with, and to be creative with that language in order to produce new language is integral to successful language learning. The questions feature a range of tenses and moods, such as the present tense, present subjunctive, perfect, imperfect, and conditional, with a couple of questions focusing on if + subjunctive + conditional clauses. There is a significant amount of implicit input on a range of grammatical concepts, particularly the use of tenses. I try to include as broad a range of language as I can in the questions, as the activity is not solely about practising language, but also about actively learning it. Questions formats are varied, to ensure maximum opportunity to work with the different ways to ask questions in English. Some questions seek to elicit very similar information, but are asked in different language: this avoids learners simply parroting learned responses to fixed prompts. I remind students that it is not necessary to tell the truth - the purpose is to create and produce accurate and realistic language. Students can prepare their responses in as much detail as possible on the accompanying planning sheet, remembering that these are conversation starters, so that once they have responded, they should then say something to keep the conversation going. Frequent and regular engagement with the activity brings the best results: with the planning sheet, students can create and prepare increasingly detailed and more complex responses, reflecting their learning progress. I definitely find it useful to read through the questions together as a whole-group, with students offering initial suggested responses. This ensures everyone can actually access the language, and they also benefit a lot from each others’ ideas. ESL EFL ENGLISH FOR CHILDREN BEGINNER ENGLISH HOW TO TELL TIME IN ENGLISH HALF PAST THE HOUR ANALOG WORKSHEETS FREEBIE I like to have sets of super simple worksheets that I can give to my young beginner learners of English, not only when they’re new to the target vocabulary, but also for refreshing and revising language they’ve learnt some time ago. Students can generally more easily assimilate new language and vocabulary when they are able to link it in their memory with a visual image, and it’s particularly important to match a clock time with the corresponding clock face when learning how to tell the time. I give my students these worksheets at the same time as introducing the time set, so that they can practice and embed both recognizing the time, and writing the time phrase itself. Students really enjoy the opportunity to test their recall too. The worksheets are useful in a number of contexts: I use them for sub lessons, as starters, plenaries, five-minute refreshers and home learning activities. I occasionally use them for more formal assessment purposes too. ENGLISH CHRISTMAS VOCABULARY FREEBIE

ESL EFL ENGLISH CHRISTMAS VOCABULARY A great English Christmas picture & vocabulary reference resource for younger learners of English. It works well when students keep them carefully in learning files or folders for current and future reference. They also work well printed double-sided and laminated for small-group work in class. There are 20 common English Christmas words with pictures that I’ve found ideal for children learning English. I’ve used a blend of definite article and indefinite article and there are some plurals too. I use this to stimulate discussion about articles, the lack of gender in English (which is often quite contrary to many learners’ first language), and forming the plural in English. It’s also great for promoting discussion about Christmas traditions and practices in the UK, as the words definitely have a UK-theme, such as Christmas crackers and mince pies, as well as other English-speaking countries, comparing them to other Christmas customs with which students are familiar. Over time, I encourage students to add to the list - by the end of their English language learning program, they’ll have a comprehensive English Christmas vocabulary bank. There are two backgrounds to choose from - Christmas colors which I tend to use as part of an English language Christmas display, and blackline snow. Have a browse in my store for more English Language Christmas resources, and a wide range of other ESL EFL teaching and learning activities, with special offer bundles and lots of freebies too! I encourage my beginner French students of all ages and stages to build up comprehensive vocabulary banks that they can reference easily whenever they need it, and they’re also really useful for regular vocabulary audits, which really helps students map their progress and keep track of their learning. Students take responsibility for organising their own learning materials from the very beginning of their learning, keeping them carefully in vocabulary learning files or folders. My students all have reference resource folders or files - these can have a range of formats - for instance, sticking into a large exercise book, or punching holes down the left-hand side, and adding to files (we also use twine or thick string). I also use this kind of vocabulary list for quick vocabulary quizzes, spelling competitions and so on, and it also works well laminated for small-group work in class time. The font size is fairly large, as ensuring that language is clear and accessible is essential for beginner language learners, as they begin to familiarize themselves with words and spelling systems in a new language. There are two backgrounds to choose from - French flag, which I generally use for French vocabulary display, and plain. Twenty fruits in Italian, with both words and pictures - I like to give visual vocabulary lists to my young beginner learners of Italian, as they can generally more easily assimilate new language and vocabulary when they are able to link it in their memory with a visual image. Children glue them into their Italian vocabulary books, or file them in their Italian vocabulary folders with other vocabulary lists, which gives them an accessible and useful Italian vocabulary reference bank for both class and home learning. We also discuss which fruits we know and like, and those we would like to try. Children like to create their own word and picture dictionary lists, adding to it as they learn more. I don’t necessarily have all the fruits in my teaching and learning plan, but it’s always a good idea to give children opportunity to engage with a broader range of words and sounds, which they begin to absorb quite naturally. The fruits focus on the definite article, either singular or plural, which is a great for promoting discussion about grammatical concepts in Italian, specifically gender of Italian nouns. The fruits are: the red apple the bananas the cherries the fig the green grapes the lemon the mangos the nectarine the olives the oranges the papaya the peach the pears the pineapple the pumpkin the raspberry the rhubarb the starfruit the strawberries the watermelon There are two backgrounds to choose from - Italian flag, which I use for Italian vocabulary display, or plain. Perfect for advanced beginner German students, who are working regularly with compound sentences and more complex texts, and intermediate German students, who are refreshing prior knowledge. German separable verbs can be quite a challenging concept for English-speaking German learners, and I’ve found that focused practice really helps them consolidate their understanding of how to conjugate them accurately, particularly the location of the separable prefix at the end of the clause. This kind of activity really does help to create a lively language learning environment. Students can develop, embed, reinforce and refresh their conjugation skills in a cooperative, communicative and interactive way, independently of the teacher. The questions have a bonus multi-skill focus on listening, speaking, pronunciation, reading and spelling. They’re great for helping students familiarise themselves with, and develop competence in, speaking, reading, writing and spelling in German in general, and certainly in conjugating German separable verbs in the present tense in particular. The cards are useful not only when you’re focusing on German conjugation, but also as an all-year-round starter, plenary and general ‘pick-me-up’ activity, as the goal is not simply to learn how conjugation works, and how patterns can be identified and applied, it’s also about enjoying working with German, and to feel confident about doing so. I like to have different set of task cards ready in folders for free-choice time, where students can choose a particular target focus that they feel they need to work a little more on, and certainly verb conjugation is a really popular choice. I’ve put the numbers across two pages, because the size of the font is really important for all learners, but especially for beginner language learners, as they begin to familiarize themselves with words and spelling systems in a new language. I have also uploaded a number reference sheet I give my more experienced English learners - it’s in landscape format, with all the numbers on a single sheet, so the font size is smaller - students who’ve been learning English for a while are comfortable with quite a lot of text on a single page. For young and / or beginner French learners, I focus initially on a single time set, and this list shows half past the hour on a single page. It may not be copied, rewritten, shared or distributed outside your classroom in any way. It is free to download, but Terms of Use still apply - please read them carefully. English Numbers 0-31 I have, Who has? This is a whole-group lively & communicative language learning game, perfect for practicing, reinforcing & refreshing how to count from 0 - 31 in English. The game has a***multi-skill focus: listening, speaking & reading***, with an important bonus focus on social interaction and participation. It’s perfect for pronunciation practice too. The aim of the game is to create an English number chain as quickly as possible, starting with the first card zero, and ending with the final card, thirty-one. The game works just as well if the number sequence is placed on the floor, a longish table, or other flat surface. I created the game for my young beginner learners, but I’ve also played the game with my adult learners, who really enjoy it too - the monster theme is popular with everyone! The design is four cards per page, which allows for a large font - this is really important for beginner language learners who are starting to familiarize themselves with the written word. Try to print in color if you can - it adds to the visual appeal of the game, which is a real motivator for learning. Download, print out, laminate, cut out & shuffle the cards. I’d definitely recommend you laminate the cards, despite the extra prep and expense. They’re far more learner-friendly, and they will last for absolutely years. Distribute the cards, one or two per student, depending on how many students you have in your group. I often play too - students really do enjoy it when I join in, and they seem to work that little bit harder on their concentration and pronunciation. Students walk around the room, talking to each other in their best English accent, sharing the information on their cards, until they have arranged the numbers in the correct order. The game works best played against a timer, regularly over a longer-term series of lessons - can students beat beat their own time record? I always do some high-speed counting warm-up activities, forwards & backwards, to get everyone ready to play! ITALIAN DAYS OF THE WEEK WORD SEARCH FREEBIE

(1)
BEGINNER ITALIAN DAYS OF THE WEEK WORD SEARCH Word searches are a fabulous way of encouraging learners to engage with the written word in Italian, refreshing and reinforcing language as they complete the grids. This freebie features a word search focusing on the days of the week in Italian, key beginner vocabulary for Italian learners. This search grid is***Italian to English***, where learners are prompted with the Italian words, and look for them in Italian in the grid. For additional consolidation, the grid also features an English word list that they have to complete, really putting students’ knowledge to the test! Students can tell in which direction the words are written by looking at the arrow key on each grid. Having a good bilingual dictionary to hand is also a good idea, as this provides a further focus on developing literacy in both Italian and English, and facilitates learner independence. There is an answer grid for the word search, so that students can check their answers - or use for a little extra help if they need it. Answer keys also provide students with an additional opportunity to engage with language, and they’re a great teacher time-saver too, which is always a good thing! The word search is in landscape format, as I’ve found this to be the best format for English-speaking beginner learners of Italian, as it mirrors the common direction of reading from left to right. This kind of activity is really versatile too, I use them as starters, refreshers, plenaries or fun-time fillers at any time during the school year, as well as when I’m introducing days of the week in Italian. They’re really useful for embedding vocabulary, checking recall, and for reading, writing and accurate spelling in French. These four recall worksheets focus on 25 high-frequency French verbs, and feature four differentiated recall challenges: Challenge 1: translate and write the verbs in English from a French prompt; the French verbs are in alphabetical order Challenge 2: translate and write the verbs in French from an English prompt; the English verbs are in alphabetical order Challenge 3: translate and write the verbs in English from a French prompt; the French verbs are in random, rather than alphabetical order. This is really useful for vocabulary recall, as students often learn new vocabulary in alphabetical order. Challenge 4: translate and write the verbs in French from an English prompt; the English verbs are in random, rather than alphabetical order It’s really useful for French students to be familiar with a broad range of key French verb vocabulary, and the worksheets provide a language learning map, enabling students to move on confidently to more complex language and texts, including authentic resources. At that point students can move swiftly on to looking at conjugation and using the verbs in a communicative and practical context, enabling them to produce more detailed and descriptive language. This is an integral element to successful language learning. The worksheets also work well as a vocabulary audit and enrichment. I give my students this French verbs list both as an answer key for independent checking, and as a reference resource - download it for free here: FRENCH VERBS LIST FREEBIE #1 https://www.tes.com/teaching-resource/french-verbs-list-freebie-1-12146994 Have a browse in my store for more super simple French vocabulary recall worksheets, and a wide range of other French teaching and learning resources, with French resource boxes, special offer bundles and lots of freebies. BEGINNER SPANISH ADVANCED BEGINNER SPANISH NUMBERS 0-100 This is a free set of 12 Spanish Numbers 0-100 Task Cards with answer key and recording sheet. You will be able to use them together with the full set of 48 task cards, as these are marked with letters, rather than numbered. The full set of 48 differentiated task cards (£3.00) is here: SPANISH NUMBERS 0-100 TASK CARDS https://www.tes.com/teaching-resource/spanish-numbers-0-100-task-cards-12903793 Create a lively language learning environment with these task cards. Students can develop, embed, reinforce and refresh their knowledge of Spanish numbers in a cooperative, communicative and interactive way, independently of the teacher. They have a bonus multi-skill focus on listening, speaking, pronunciation, reading and spelling. They’re great for helping students familiarize themselves with, and develop competence in, speaking, reading, writing and spelling longer words in Spanish. The cards are useful not only when you’re focusing on Spanish Numbers 0-100, but also for sub lessons, as an all-year-round starter, plenary and general ‘pick-me-up’ activity, as the goal is not simply to learn how to count in Spanish, but also to enjoy working with Spanish, and to feel confident about doing so. All questions are in Spanish, and range in complexity and challenge, both in terms of language and number skills. I’ve used visual prompts such as math symbols to ensure all learners can engage with the questions, and this helps them to begin to infer meaning from context, and to decode cues and prompts to foster understanding. I don’t allow the use of calculators to increase the challenge a little. Some questions focus specifically on Spanish math language, which students do not always engage with very often. The question card template enables students to apply their knowledge of language and arithmetic creatively and practically, which is integral to successful language learning. My students also genuinely enjoy creating questions for each other. The set comprises the following non-editable files: 48 differentiated question cards, 6 per A4 (8.5 x 11) paper 2-page answer recording sheet 2-page answer key Have a browse in my store for more Spanish task cards, and a wide range of other Spanish teaching and learning materials, with Spanish dollar deals, special offer bundles, and lots of freebies.
