DAZ DAF GERMAN FOR CHILDREN BEGINNER GERMAN VEGETABLES TASK CARDS The resource is non-editable in a zipped format. It is copyright, all rights reserved. It may not be copied, rewritten, shared or distributed, in whole or in part, outside your own classroom in any way. The license for purchase is a single-user license only. Please read the Terms of Use. Students can develop, embed, reinforce and refresh their knowledge of German vegetables in a cooperative, communicative and interactive way, independently of the teacher. The questions have a bonus multi-skill focus on listening, speaking, pronunciation, reading and spelling. They’re great for helping students familiarize themselves with, and develop competence in, speaking, reading, writing and spelling longer words and more complex sentences in German. Sentence structure and word order may differ from students’ first and/or home language, so it’s important to provide them with opportunities to engage with language that moves beyond single-unit vocabulary as soon as possible. It also gives them chance to apply language in a practical, real-world context, which in turn helps embed both vocab and grammatical concepts into longer-term memory. The cards are useful not only when you’re focusing on the target vocab, but also to work on German language skills in general, such as cases, adjectival endings, grammatical structures such as um… zu + infinitive and so on. The goal is not simply to learn the target vocabulary in German, but also to enjoy working with German, and to feel confident about doing so. The questions are all in German, and range in complexity and challenge. There is an alphabetical German-English and English-German vegetables list with masculine and feminine vegetables, definite and indefinite article, and singular and plural - this really helps students familiarize themselves with grammatical concepts without explicit instruction. There are some translation questions too - both from German to English and English to German, which is a great introduction to translation for beginner German learners. The resource comprises the following non-editable files: = 36 question cards, 4 per A4 (8.5 x 11) paper. = 2-page answer recording sheet = 2-page answer key = 2-page alphabetical vegetables list, German-English & English-German Have a browse in my store for more German resources, including German dollar deals, special offer bundles, and freebies. It may not be copied, rewritten, shared, or distributed in any way outside your own classroom. The license for purchase is a single-user license only. Please read the Terms of Use carefully. These German Christmas word searches are a real winner - the Christmas-theme is always a great motivator. There are 33 German Christmas words, and I’ve chosen a selection of more generic Christmas words, and also some which are very German-specific, such as Sankt Nikolaus and Knecht Ruprecht. Students shouldn’t attempt to learn all the vocabulary at once, as the objective of the word searches is to engage with German Christmas vocabulary, to really focus on the individual words, genders and articles, and to have lots of practice at general recall, writing and spelling. The German Christmas vocabulary list is ideal as a long-term reference resource, and really useful for students when they are working more creatively and independently, for example***German Christmas reading comprehension, German Christmas writing activities*** and so on. There is an increasing challenge through the grids, and the differentiation does ensure that all students are challenged. There are 5 German to German grids, with a vocabulary list to complete for additional consolidation. There are also 5 English to German grids, also with a vocabulary list to complete, which is a great way to really work on students’ recall and spelling. Students can identify the level of challenge by the increasing size of the grid, number of words to search for, and the direction the words appear in, which they can see by the direction of the arrows at the top of the grids. I’ve put a couple of extra challenges in too, to encourage students to look really carefully at the words - for example, they may have to find candles and work out what that is in German - only the prompt die Adventskerze appears in the reference list. Answer keys are essential in my view, and I always give them to students. Not only are they a great teacher-time saver, they give students an additional opportunity to engage with language, and help them develop more independence in their learning. If you can, laminate the answer keys, and distribute amongst small groups of students during classtime - they will definitely last for years. The product is free to download, but Terms of Use still apply. I like to give visual vocabulary lists to my young beginner learners of Spanish, as they can generally more easily assimilate new language and vocabulary when they are able to link it in their memory with a visual image, and it’s particularly important to match a clock time with the corresponding clock face when learning how to tell time. Children glue the lists into their Spanish vocabulary books, or file them in their Spanish vocabulary folders with other vocabulary lists, which gives them an accessible and useful Spanish vocabulary reference bank for both class and home learning. For young and / or beginner Spanish learners, I focus initially on a single time set, and this list shows half past the hour on a single page. This is because in my experience students benefit from a very clear outline of new language and vocabulary, avoiding lots of text on a single page - even my older students who are completely new to Spanish prefer this. When I’m sure that students are confident with a particular time set, I then move on to additional time sets. There are two backgrounds to choose from - Spanish flag, which I use for Spanish vocabulary display, or plain. **Try this super simple worksheets freebie, focusing on how to tell time in Spanish half past the hour: HOW TO TELL TIME IN SPANISH : HALF PAST THE HOUR WORKSHEETS FREEBIE https://www.tes.com/teaching-resource/spanish-telling-time-half-past-worksheets-freebie-12954135 Have a browse in my store for more Spanish visual vocabulary lists, and a wide range of other Spanish teaching and learning materials, with Spanish dollar deals, special offer bundles, and lots of freebies. ¡MUCHAS GRACIAS Y BUEN APRENDIZAJE!

The product is copyright, all rights reserved. It cannot be copied, rewritten, shared or distributed outside your own classroom in any way. The license for purchase is a single-user license only. Please read the Terms of Use carefully. The words are in these vocabulary groups: = verbes français = nombres 81-100 = Quelle heure est-il ? (half past) = en ville = adjectifs = conversation / questions et réponses There are 198 cards in total, and although it’s time-consuming, it’s definitely worth the time to laminate the cards, as they’re far sturdier, and last for years! I give my students a vocab workbook too, and this one has 3 differentiated challenges, as well as a full alphabetical French-English list, which we use as a year-round reference resource as well. I often give multiple workbooks over a school year - it’s a really successful way of consolidating vocab, as well as practicing spelling. There’s a card template too - students enjoy creating game/quiz cards for each other, applying their knowledge in a different way. Written Recall Challenge One: students write the English word /phrase from a French prompt, with all the words and phrases grouped together in the same category Written Recall Challenge Two: with this challenge, students write the words/phrases in French from an English prompt, and again, they’re all group together in the same category Written Recall Challenge Three: this final challenge ‘switches’ at each question from French to English, and lists words and phrases randomly from each category - I’ve found that this really does encourage my students to think hard about their French vocabulary. I let my students work with them independently at frequent intervals, both during the introduction phase, and regularly afterwards, giving them maximum opportunity to consolidate the vocab. They like to create game/quiz cards for each other with the card template. The vocabulary groups are: = les pays = les nombres 61-80 = Quelle heure est-il ? It may not be copied, rewritten, shared or distributed outside your own classroom in any way. The license for purchase is a single-user license only. There are 198 cards in total. There are lots of games and activities which students really enjoy - I’ve described some of the ones that my students love. We don’t always use the entire set at once - sometimes we choose particular vocab groups to focus on - it’s entirely up to you. It’s good to let students work and learn independently, and we use these not only when we’re introducing these particular vocab groups, but at regular intervals during the school year (and beyond!), as this is a really good way to ensure that students are consolidating their vocab. Although there are a lot of cards, I always laminate them - they are better to use, and really do last for years and years. I like to give my students workbooks too, along with a full vocab reference, which I’ve included at the front of the 18-page workbook. There are 3 differentiated recall and write challenges, and both the workbook and cards are versatile - we use them in directed class time, for free-choice time, for homework or during the holidays, for cover lessons and so on - students can simply get on with things together. They can also be a bit more creative, and apply their vocab practically by creating game or quiz cards for each other using the card template. The vocabulary groups are: = les salutations = les couleurs (masculine and feminine) = les parties du corps (singular and plural) = le temps = les nombres 21-40 = les phrases pour la salle de classe = questions et réponses Written Recall Challenge One: students write the English word /phrase from a French prompt, with all the words and phrases grouped together in the same category Written Recall Challenge Two: with this challenge, students write the words/phrases in French from an English prompt, and again, they’re all group together in the same category Written Recall Challenge Three: this final challenge ‘switches’ at each question from French to English, and lists words and phrases randomly from each category - I’ve found that this really does encourage my students to think hard about their French vocab. My students love to play the games and work through the workbook on a regular basis, not just when I introduce the particular vocab - in that way, they feel they can really practice and embed the vocab. They like to create quiz/games cards for each other, and that’s a great chance to apply their knowledge a little more practically. I always laminate my games cards, because it’s well worth the time and effort - they’re definitely easier to work with in the classroom, and they last for years and years. This is a set of 198 matching French and English games cards with a recall and write workbook, focusing on 99 beginner French words and phrases. The vocabulary topics are: = Les salutations = Les jours de la semaine = Les mois et les saisons de l’année = Les nombres 0-20 = Ma famille = Mots fréquents = Le français pour la salle de classe = Questions et réponses My students really like to work independently, in pairs and in small groups, and these vocabulary cards enable them to do that. There are lots of games and activities to play, and I’ve described several that are successful with my groups. I’ve found that giving students regular and frequent opportunities to play with the cards, not only when we’re focusing on these particular vocab groups, but across the school year, and even when they’re far more advanced in their learning - all learners benefit from going back to the start! There’s definitely some prep involved - printing, laminating and cutting out - laminating is certainly worth the effort, as the cards are a lot more learner-friendly, and do last for years. Students don’t have to play with full sets - they can work with selected vocab groups. The 18-page workbook gives students a different way of consolidating their vocabulary - writing it out really helps to embed language, and is great for spelling too. There are 3 differentiated recall and write challenges, as well as a full alphabetical French-English vocabulary list, which works well as a longer-term reference resource too. My students learn a lot from applying their French practically with the game card templates - they enjoy creating cards for each other. I use the workbook for homework, holiday work, practice and revision or sub lessons - they’re really versatile. FRENCH FRUITS WORD SEARCHES #1

FSL FLE FRENCH FRUITS WORD SEARCHES Mots Cachés are a fabulous way of encouraging learners to engage with the written word in French, refreshing and reinforcing language as they complete the grids. This set features ten differentiated word searches, focusing on 25 fruits in French, with each consecutive grid increasing in challenge. The fruits include masculine, feminine, singular and plural, with a blend of definite and indefinite articles - this really helps learners think a little more laterally about language, and their new vocab - they may learn la pomme for example, and it’s useful to give students opportunity to think about grammatical concepts, and how la becomes une for example. I’ve selected high-frequency fruits, such as apple or pear, and also fruits which may be new to some learners, such as redcurrant or starfruit. There are a range of phonemes and sounds too, such as the silent ll (groseille) and the use of the plural before a vowel, to show that the letter s isn’t always silent, for example les ananas or les olives. There are 5 French to French grids, labelled with a lemon, where learners are prompted with the French words, and look for them in French in the grid. For additional consolidation, each grid also features an English word list that they have to complete, really putting their knowledge to the test! There are also 5 English to French grids, labelled with a raspberry, where the prompt words are given in English, and learners have to find the French equivalent in the grid. For additional consolidation and practice in writing/spelling in French, they also complete the French word list on each page. Learners can tell in which direction the words are written by looking at the arrow key on each grid. There is an answer grid for each word search, so that learners can check their answers - or use for a little extra help if they need it. The word searches are in landscape format, as I’ve found this to be the best format for beginner learners of French. Use as starters, refreshers, plenaries or fun-time fillers at any time during the school year, as well as when you’re introducing fruits in French. Try this French fruits word search freebie- it will give you a good idea of whether the word searches would work well for your students: FRENCH FRUITS WORD SEARCHES FREEBIE https://www.tes.com/teaching-resource/resource-12510002 The resource is non-editable in a zipped format. Ideal for Primary French Immersion and beginner French students of all ages and stages, providing them with a great opportunity to engage with the written word in French, at the same time developing essential beginner French vocabulary. They are easily differentiated too: the grids have an increasing level of challenge, to ensure that all students can feel confident about their learning - and lots of chances to keep challenging themselves. I’ve indicated the direction the words are located in the grid with arrows. There are 5 French to French grids, with an additional number vocabulary list to complete for extra spelling practice. I always create English to French grids too - that’s an effective way of consolidating vocabulary, and there’s a vocabulary list to complete too. All the grids have a corresponding answer key, which are essential in order to maximise the learning potential of the activity. They facilitate learner independence, also giving them an additional opportunity to engage with the target language - they also genuinely enjoy assessing their own, and each others’ work. This set is in landscape format, as in my experience young beginner French students, as well as older beginner French students, really benefit from a larger font, and having the language presented in the common direction of reading in both English and French, left to right. The word searches are really versatile, and I use them in lots of different contexts, such as starter and refresher activities, fun-time fillers, sub lessons, or free-choice activity at any time during the school year. Try this French fruits word searches freebie - they’re in the same format as this set, so you’ll be able to see whether this kind of activity would work well for your learners: FRENCH FRUITS WORD SEARCHES FREEBIE https://www.tes.com/teaching-resource/fsl-french-fruits-word-search-freebie-12510002 Have a browse in my store for more French word searches, and a wide range of other French teaching and learning materials, with French dollar deals, special offer bundles, and lots of freebies.
