JK Rowling has published her children’s book, The Ickabog, online for everybody to enjoy whilst at home.
She is also hosting an illustration competition for children to design her characters and setting- the winners will be published with the book in November 2020!
This project’s focus is on reading skills, and they are defined within the project as: comprehension, inference, questioning, summarising, predicting, synthesizing. Each day’s task has a different focus. Children have creative tasks, including colouring, drawing and designing characters and settings from the book; they also practise letter-writing skills, as well as gain skills in giving opinions in a formal manner.

Differentiated worksheets for children to present artist research, opinion & analysis along with a page for attempting to recreate and replicate the artist’s style.
Sometimes, the way children present their research findings in art isn’t up to scratch with their practical work. This resource gives children the opportunity to show their findings neatly (with sentence starters, word banks and prompts to help guide their writing) and give opinions on the artists’ work.
This resource is re-usable as it’s not artist-specific and gender-neutral pronouns are used. The second version of the artist research page is scaffolded for lower-ability writers.
Included in this download:
3-page PDF for demonstrating knowledge on artists
Word .docx versions of the pages so you can tailor the sheets to your students’ needs
Lost in Chalk font for editing your resources in keeping with the current style
Hand drawn page borders that can be used on other classroom materials (not for commercial use)
Hand-drawn paint tube clip art that can be used on other classroom materials (not for commercial use)
I hope this resource saves you time and stress!
Happy teaching,

Book Review worksheet concentrating on summarising, forming opinions and concluding on How To Train Your Dragon (Book 1) by Cressida Cowell.
In this book review, children are asked to summarise the main parts of the story, give their opinion on the story as a whole, state the funniest, scariest and favorite parts, rate the story from 1-5, explain if they would recommend the book, and discuss who their favourite and least favourite characters were.
This works great as a post-text exercise, and also works as a movie review if you are following the feature film instead. Reviewing books helps children know that it’s okay to like or dislike a book, and also allows them to work out what their favorite genres are.

PDF version of the book review
.docx Word document version of the book review for editing purposes
‘Lost in Chalk’ font to help you edit the resource and keep the style
