COVID-19 has flummoxed us all, and it is vital that we ensure none of the children in our care get left behind in any facet of English language learning. This Recovery Curriculum document outlines key, end-of-year expectations for Year 5 in line with the National Curriculum strands for English.
In this document, Year 4 expectations are included in the left-hand column and act as prerequisites to tick off before a child moves on to the Year 5 expectation. This acts as a net to catch any gaps that may have manifested due to the time off in lockdown during the academic year of 2019-2020.
How do I use this product?
I will be sticking these into the back of the children’s books and ticking them off when completed.
They could also be assigned to a child digitally to save on paper and needless touching of joint resources.
Alternatively, these could be used holistically for an entire class, or for emerging, expected & exceeding groups.

**Distance Learning project based on JK Rowling’s new book, The Ickabog. Children work through a 5-day project with 14 pages of activities focused on apostrophe use within Chapters 5 & 6. **
This resource can be used in the classroom or electronically! -
JK Rowling has published her new children’s book, The Ickabog, online for everybody to enjoy whilst at home.
She is also hosting an illustration competition for children to design her characters and setting- the winners will be published with the book in November 2020!
This project’s focus is on the use of apostrophes for contraction and possession, and the 5-day booklet breaks down these skills in multiple ways. Children will have to recognize apostrophes for contraction and for both singular and plural possession; additionally, they will use both types in their own sentences, recognize mistakes and explain why apostrophes are used.
Included in this download:

This pack includes a prescriptive powerpoint in the style of William Morris and outlines 5 lessons (so far) on William Morris and his style. This resource will be being updated with more lessons as this term goes on as I'm currently teaching this.
I also included pictures of my sketchbook on the slides to aid in explaining what to achieve.
lesson 1 and 2- create artist page (double page spread) on William Morris through research
lesson 3- replicate his style in sketches of tiles of his work
lesson 4- create a mood board- what does his art make you feel?
lesson 5- create a swatch book of colours he uses in his artwork
Hello Fellow Teachers,
Here is an apocalypse adventure-themed, home learning project that will be used whilst the children are off school- it’s perfect for distance learning due to the tasks being able to be completed independently. This resource spreads across 6 tasks (could be set weekly or daily) which last for an hour-long each. The tasks included follow these learning objectives:
LO: To write dystopian narrative
LO: To write anon-chronological research report
LO: To write a fictional recount
LO: To write an instruction text
LO: To use non-verbal communication to portray character emotion
LO: To write in 3rd person, past tense
This task would work great for high-ability KS2 (Key Stage 2) or Key Stage 3 (KS3) children.
I upload my tasks as both an editable .docx / Word document, and as a PDF in case the alignment doesn’t work on your computers.
If you’re looking for other home-learning projects, here are links to the other resources I’ve put together for my KS2 children.

Hi there!
Here's a new resource pack- it's a pretty prescriptive and detailed set of resources that cover 4 days worth of work, along with challenges to boot.
Included
- 3-way differentiated guided reading booklet including the following
*Day 1- predictions based on blurb and front cover
*Day 2- author's intention through language and 'connotation'

Learning objectives outlined on the sheets, and marking area prescribed.
I used this with my year 3/4 class, but is easily adapted for 5/6.
Two lesson focus on Willy Wonka and planning a character description based on his appearance in the movies. We focused on the recent movie, however there are clips for both.
This pack includes 4 activities.
The main activity has three tasks that involve classifying words into 1 of 7 categories. This opens up for lots of conversation and debate, which is a great basis for a lesson.
The other three activities are mazes where children must get from the top row of the word-table to the the bottom by linking words of that type.
I hope this proves helpful!

Hi there!
At my school, the children’s homework generally all leads toward a final goal of creating a book or portfolio. I find these homeworks are great to incite excitement in a topic, to embed organisational skills and very fun to mark!
A Pugs of the Frozen North themed worksheet that I used for a week-long homework task based on subtraction using the column method.
There are four challenges in increasing difficulty that see children securing more and more desirable food for the pugs when Shen is abandoned with them on the frozen ocean.
Hi there,
The school I work at has such an amazing approach to planning, and so it looks like there'll be another full year of resources being uploaded to this site as I go.
This pack includes individual lesson plans, resources and activities for the children, including a PowerPoint to take you through each day.
Let me know if you need anything else.
Miss Ritchie.
Hello, All!
Here’s the first Tudor resource I’m selling- there’ll be a big pack for sale at the end of this term, but for now, here are 2 resources that are differentiated and are topically laid out.
There’s a recipe to follow, along with a write-up sheet that’s differentiated based on English ability.
Additionally, there’s a pdf of a wordsearch and a cross-word puzzle that’s topically linked for when you’re waiting for the bread to prove!
