This is a packet based around the GATE unit of "Thinking Like a Disciplinarian" designed for K-2 students and aligned with CCSS. Students step into the role of being a Marine Biologist and complete a research study on an ocean animal similar to the story "Over in the Ocean", with the main focus being animal conservation. Following the story students will select an ocean animal (great chance to get some stuffed ocean animals in the classroom) to learn about and work towards conserving. Students can work independently, in small groups or partners depending on preference and ability. Once the research packet is complete, students will create a conservation poster to draw awareness to how we can help these animals. I Have Who Has is a great game to play whole class to practice numbers, additions/subtraction fact, sight words, or in this case, the Arabic Alphabet. Each student takes a card and reads which letter of the alphabet they have, followed by who has the next letter. EX: "I have A, Who has B?" (English Version) The child that has the corresponding letter reads their card and so on, until every card has been read. This is a great activity as a summative assessment for a space unit. The brochure should be folded into thirds, featuring "Space Travel Brochure" as the front. This brochure includes: What to bring in space? activity where students name 5 things astronauts need, and then will draw lines to match the words to the astronaut picture. What will we see in space? activity where students will write the names of the 8 planets. Some planets we will visit are? map where students shall draw the 8 planets and label them in their correct order from the Sun. There is a sample brochure included for reference. This is a set of 4 mini instruction books explaining with pictures how to build 4 different types of circuits. Most circuit kits at schools come with these items, but I purchased each item from Amazon, Home Depot and Radio Shack for my circuit centers. My students will each have a box to work with containing different parts of circuits, and they will then use the instruction book to assemble the circuit. ***PLEASE NOTE: Additional materials are needed if you want to set up your own circuit centers*** Light Circuit: Low watt bulb, matching bulb holder, 2 alligator clips with wires, and a 9V battery Solar Light Circuit: 3v solar panel (Amazon) and a 3v LED light Motion Circuit: 3v motor (Amazon) and a 3v coin cell battery Sound Circuit: 3v buzzer (Amazon) and a 3v coin cell battery Simply print out the pages, cut, laminate, and bind to make mini books. This is a great book to use during a Community Helpers unit. Photocopy these pages back to back, or as individual worksheets. Students decorate the person depending on what their job is. They also label the name of the job and give a description of how that person helps the community. This packet includes 16 pages.

BEST BEHAVIOR MANAGEMENT SURVEY Owing to the popularity of my Multiple Intelligences Survey: How Do You Learn?, I created a new survey to be completed by students in class or at home with parents to show what they think and feel about classroom rules and behavior management techniques. We all know the importance of differentiating curriculum to student learning styles. But how many of us actually apply that same principal to behavior management...not too many I bet. It is so simple to apply one behavior management system to the entire class, or sometimes our principal requires us to use a school wide model. However, we all know that our students are going to behave differently, and therefore we should be actively differentiating behavior management methods to best meet the needs of our students. Using this survey will give you additional data to help your classroom function more smoothly, and to show administrators why differentiating behavior management is important to the student development in class. Also a great thing to have on file during parent teacher conferences!

Multiple Intelligences: This is a visual survey based on aspects of Howard Gardener's Multiple Intelligences I made for my ESL students to be used at the beginning of the school year. Given a language barrier it was a great tool that gave me insight into how my students like to learn, what materials they like to use, and what their favorite part of school is. While I used this survey for ESL, I feel it can be used for any mainstream/ESL grade level in the primary grades Each student completes the survey by either circling or coloring (whatever is easier depending on your students' abilities), one or more answer for each question. Make sure they understand not to circle every answer, but to pick only the ones that pertain to them. Once the survey is complete, you can use the teacher answer key to understand what the data means and how to effectively use it. I used my surveys to help me differentiate my lessons, how to manage my guided reading and writing more effectively, as well as how to motivate my students to complete their work. It also gave me good ideas about how to set up my seating chart, which students might work well together, and which of my more chatty students might need to be separated. And one extra bonus, this is a GREAT tool when it comes to observations and professional development, and you get asked about why you have differentiated in a particular way! Approaches to Learning: This survey allows you to best assist your students when it comes to their learning. It allows you to see if there are distractions that are slowing learning, how your students work at home, and where they feel most comfortable in class. This is a great assessment for data collection to justify differentiation in the class environment for administrators.

Students will read "Jack and the Beanstalk", and discuss what happened to the Jack and the beans. Then they will work in small groups to use growing materials to conduct an experiment on different growing conditions.
