This 15 slide presentation adds the final polish to the essay writing skills required in the English Language/Literature GCSE by looking at the different ways students can break down and analyse quotes. I have used this powerpoint successfully in class on many occassions and I find it really helps the students to confidently consider the writer's craft.

This beautifully illustrated powerpoint presentation is very engaging for the students. This presentation explores all elements of the AO3 and AO4 through a series of structured writing tasks and discussions. Starter,Exploration of the Criteria, Perspectives Tasks, Extenstion Task and Plenary. AO3: Compare writer’s ideas and perspectives, as well as how these are conveyed across two or more texts. AO4: Evaluate texts critically and support this with textual references. William Shakespeare’s Tempest is brought beautifully to life in the thoughtfully illustrated slides. I have used this particular resource to lead my teaching in class, as a distance learning material/homework and even as a tool of revision – all have worked well for the students. This is a complete KS4 resource, although I have used it with slight modifications at KS3. This power point lesson contains a glossary of terms, a starter activity, summary and analysis questions, an extension task, a homework assignment and a plenary. Enjoy!

Shakespeare’s classic tragedy forewarns of vanity and its fleeting values, explores the concept of aging and the decline of control, power and identity. In an age of social media, its vanity and its attached fleeting values, our individual lack of control and our ever-changing identities in the post-modern world, this text remains relevant and essential. I have taught this text many times in the last 20 years and I have used this specific resource (revised in 2020): to lead my teaching in class, as a distance learning material/homework assignment and even as a tool of revision – all have worked well for the students. This dynamically presented PowerPoint lesson of 23 slides, includes: a starter activity, a glossary of terms, summary and analysis questions, an academic writing task, a theme tracker, an extension task, a homework assignment and a plenary. This is a complete resource with no additional work required from the teacher. Enjoy!

GCSE to A Level Transition: Key Skills - Analysing Quotes: Where to Begin ...

The academic jump between GCSE and A level is significant. Often there isn’t a transition program or materials in place, and some students struggle. I have created an ever-growing set of materials to compensate for this skill’s gap and students have found these materials incredibly helpful. I have used these materials after students have completed their GCSEs and indicated that they are planning to move onto ‘A’ level, as homework assignments and even as tools of revision. All have worked well for the students. This power point lesson focuses on ´Where to begin when analysing quotes´ – this is an essential skill. Through a series of structured exercises: the students learn how to interpret and comment on quotes, and adopt this skill into their academic writing. Colourful and interactive, I have received good feedback on this lesson. This is a complete resource. Enjoy.

This powerpoint presentation is beautifully illustrated and engaging for the students. Each powerpoint is constructed with a starter, key words and phrases, a starter activity, summary and analysis questions, an extension task and a PEE writing task, plus a plenary. This presentation focuses clearly on one scene and touches upon the prominent theme within the starter activity. It is aimed clearly at KS4, but can so easily be adapted up or down the key stages. All of my resources have been run in class and are revised and updated on a yearly basis.
