This Food Cover Work is suited for key stage 3 students studying food. It has been tried and tested with year 7 and year 8 classes. The resource includes three tasks and is three sides of A4.
Tasks:
To watch the 10 videos (provided) and jot down notes. The videos relate to - Cross-Contamination, Cleaning, Cooking and Chilling.
Students are provided with a table showing 6 Health and Safety rules that need to be followed in the food room. Students are tasked to write down at least one reason why this rule should be followed and 1 hazard for each. (Answers have been provided for the non-specialist teacher to follow and encourage self-marking)

This resources has been tried and tested with both year 9 and year 10 students studying GCSE Food. Students liked knowing that there was extra support in completing the tasks. This allowed them more time understanding and writing a Time Plan, giving them time to ask valuable questions to the teacher and correct errors - a journey necessary before the final NEA 2 write up in year 11! Students are firstly introduced to the Eatwell Guide and asked to catagorise a list of foods into the right food groups. This DT Cover worksheet has been primarily designed for KS3 students, as part of a cover lesson. It focuses on The influence of Branding and Marketing; and provides them with four tasks.
Students are asked to complete sentences relating to branding and marketing. They are then asked to analyse an example app/app icon branding - along with answering two marketing question. Next students are provided with a well known drinks can and asked to sketch their own word/s using the iconic drink typography. Lastly students are tasked to brand a child’s banking app.
