Castles - A servants diary

(1)
A fantastic, tried and tested lesson. Using the intro PowerPoint explore what the life of a servant in a castle would have been like; you could even get children to role play so that they can get into character. Children can then have a go at writing a diary entry from the life of a servant using the beautiful differentiated scroll worksheets and the diary writing frame to help them. If you have any early finishers, why not ask them to draw a banquet table and use the food activity sheet to either draw their own food items on the table, or cut and stick from the sheet.

They can then write sentences in their book using the suffixes e.g. Sea Dog is braver than Captain Black Beard. Jack Sparrow is the bravest pirate. etc. Also included is a red pen question to support deepening learning.

This is a really fun and engaging activity. Children can be set the challenge to find as many features of a castle as they can with these wonderful worksheets. Want to save paper, why not print some for a group activity and laminate them so that you can use them time and time again. You could even give children a blank grid and challenge them to make their castle word search.
