This bundle of MYP Year 2 lessons comes with Knowledge Organiser, Unit Plan (with detailed explanations of Global and Related concepts, Statement of Inquiry, and addresses the Key concept of Identity) Milestone Assessment (for criteria BCD, with task specific clarification) and aspirational GRASP task. The unit is aspirational and looks at The Odyssey through the themes of Xenia and Homeric Heroism.
The elements of analysis of Homer’s Odyssey lead students to produce imaginative writing and permit students with a deficit of cultural capital to engage with Classical literature and ideals in an accessible, yet aspirational way. Lessons are supported with non verbal cues to Learner Profile Attributes connected to the featured task.
The unit consists of 36 hours of lessons, based on a 4 lesson a week and revises the AP sentence types to assist in building SPaG for non fiction and fiction writing.
Despite being classically and contextually challenging, the lessons support students in learning habits that grow their hinterland knowledge and include references to three texts (translated Homer, Robin Lister and Gillian Cross) so that all students may access the story without compromising their enjoyment.
I love this module and enjoy the reactions of students to Ancient Greek ideas of society, morality and customs in comparison to their modern world.
