This is a series of lessons that I've created for the AQA specification Controlled assessment on Writing. Pupils take apart a series of written texts about Manchester and then try to create their own written piece about the city. The first two lessons and resources are uploaded here in one place so that you can teach them together or separately. These are a series of lessons with their resources that cover both reading and writing skills for year 9 pupils. In Year 9, the curriculum for English, mirrors the GCSE language curriculum, as I teach pupils how to prepare for the independence of controlled assessment. These lessons teach pupils the skills they need for GCSE but they are heavily tied into the APP framework for assessment at KS3. This was a scheme that the pupils really engaged with and enjoyed. It gets them to complete a reading analysis of the Tell Tale Heart, then to complete their own piece of gothic writing.
