These resources span my career; from my period of teaching unqualified, through to an AST of English & Director of Teaching & Learning. Although my specialism is English, I have taught GCSE Citzienship, Language and Lit, Media Studies, Maths & History. I have also taught all of those at Key Stage 3, so there is an eclectic mix here. As the main trainer in my previous school, I have uploaded many insets and training session powerpoints too.

These few slides can be added to the start of any lesson to use as a settler for when the pupils come into the room and to incorporate literacy skills into your lesson. This particular exercise is a reading comprehension style – there is a text and, if you print off the questions, pupils can answer them whilst you get the lesson set up. This text is accidents can happen.

Romeo & Juliet - Prologue Analysis

This is another example of work completed in year 9 to prepare pupils for assessment at GCSE - so it is more structured than controlled assessment allows for. However, this is based on the old specifications with an ora assessment for reading - so will need to be tweaked. Using a range of different activities, this assessment picks out key language fro the prologue and makes up a full morning of activities for English students.

2012 Death Penalty Lesson 6 - Reading Assessment

This is a scheme of work that I have revisited and updated for 2012, to include all APP frameworks, persuasive techniques and analysis of the Death Penalty. The scheme looks at murderers and results in a question about whether or not we should bring back the death penalty. Pupils end by writing a discursive essay, as if they are under controlled assessment conditions, as I am trying to prepare year 9 for their GCSE years. If you want every lesson, type in '2012 Death Penalty Lesson Miss R' and they should come up in a list. This one structures the pupils' reading assessment.

This is one lesson that I have taken from a whole scheme of lessons. Each poem can be used as an individual lesson, or, if you would like to teach all of the lessons, search for ' Poetry Scheme - 3 Poems - Lesson Miss R' and they should all come up for you to work with. At the end of the unit, there is a reading and writing assessment that involves analysis and creativity too. This lesson is set up for the writing assessment - I get the pupils to keep moving a post it note with their name on it that shows they are moving up the success criteria.

This is one of a series of lessons that I am stilll creating for my current year 11. It is for the Shakespeare and Poetry Literature assessment. Puils will work entirely in their books during the teaching of the unit, to then plan their essay on the planning sheet. This lesson is about the courtly love tradition at the time of Romeo and Juliet. I usually put my resources at the end of the PP, so you are likely to find them after the last slide.
