Pupils should be able to name a selection of light sources, including the sun, and identify some of the uses of light in the environment. The first two parts of the activity asks pupils to sort a collection of items into those which are sources of light and those which are not. The rest of the activity deals with uses of light in the environment, asking pupils to identify the source of light in a picture and to say what the light is used for.

Two worksheets are provided where pupils have to order pictures, putting either the tallest first or the shortest first. This is a simple open ended shape and space investigation focussing on the formula for the perimeter of a shape. This is an ideal unit to introduce younger KS2 children to maths investigation skills as the patterns are simple to spot. The unit can be used to assess AT1 or as a KS2/3 transition project. This can be used as a lesson with a starter, main and plenary included with animations. Teachers notes are also included.

This activity introduces the form of art known as 'cubism' to the class. It firstly shows how artists can use shapes to make abstract portraits or 'funny faces.' Pupils look at a picture of a face painted in the cubist style and discuss shapes used, position of facial features and colours chosen. They then have an opportunity to make their own cubist face by following the on-screen instructions which add abstract facial features one at a time to their portrait. Pupils then have the opportunity of choosing a colour scheme for their picture and are able to print it.
