How equal is the education system for children in Britain?
Aim of this unit:
To investigate whether all children have an exactly equal chance of doing well in the education system
To notice that not only are patterns of inequality present, some have changed significantly, while others have remained static – there are trends and patterns in the data

This unit focuses on the opening of a suspense story. The children read the opening then identify the different forms of figurative speech that have been used to add effect. Personification, metaphors and similes are explained and examples shown.
Children then go on to write the opening of their own suspense story using a picture of haunted house as stimulus.

A comprehensive series of multimedia materials to support the teaching of the GCSE Design and Technology Food Technology course. The materials can be downloaded as a complete Moodle course or as individual elements. The bilingual resources include video clips, animations, text and quizzes within Moodle and can be used on an interactive whiteboard for whole class teaching or by students on individual computers. These lesson materials and resources are designed to support learners in their understanding of
* the processes operating at the coast
* how areas along the coast can be protected
* the groups of people concerned about coastal protection
* how to complete a fieldwork sketch
Although these resources rely on images and materials based on Porthkerry and Penarth in the Vale of Glamorgan, the processes illustrated could be applied to any coastal area.
This unit revises the English GCSE play Macbeth by William Shakespeare. It includes interactive activities revising characterisation, themes and key events, in preparation for the exam and coursework questions. Pupils will become familiar with dramatic techniques, analyse language and imagery and will collect evidence and form judgements on who is to blame for the death of a main character. The unit also includes teachers’ notes with suggestions on how to use each resource.
This interactive activity allows pupils to look at patterns in a bit more detail, and links well from the Early years pattern lesson. Pupils investigate patterns using different attributes - shape, size and colour. Pupils play games and investigate how many ways they can fill in the colours of a variety of objects, such as flags and socks.
