In this Unit, pupils learn to give their opinions and talk about their spare time likes and dislikes. It includes interactive reading and listening activities, worksheets, grammar notes and exercises on stem changing verbs and impersonal verbs like gustar. The unit also includes activities which require pupils to use thinking skills and prepare an extended written piece. Each section is accompanied by teachers’ notes with suggestions on how to use each resource.

A series of resources including video, animation and whiteboard materials that address the skills, knowledge and understanding of how science works within the GCSE specifications. This unit looks at the advantages and disadvantages of adding fluoride to drinking water, and considers how valid different opinions on the subject are. Video clips of expert opinion are included and pupils are encouraged to form their own opinion and to present the case for or against.

This inteactive activity is designed to introduce pupils to the idea that some everyday objects need electricity to work. The initial page asks pupils to identify items that use electricity. Subsequent pages ask the pupils to drag electrical items into the room in a house where they might be used. The final page asks pupils to identify objects that need either mains or battery power to work and can be used to initiate discussion on safety (battery being safer than mains).

This unit has been developed to raise awareness of energy wastage at home and in school.The unit is split into three sections. 1. Huddling penguins – to develop pupils’ investigative skills while learning about how animals adapt to their environment. 2. Energy from fuels – looking at different forms of renewable and non-renewable energy. Pupils carry out an investigation to find which fuel produces the most energy. 3. Conservation of energy – looking at how we waste energy in the school and at home and pupils investigate ways of conserving energy.

The aim of the lesson is to introduce students to a variety of different materials. Students will examine a number of common hardwoods, softwoods, manufactured boards, plastics, metals and compliant materials such as card. Students studying a resistant materials course will be expected to have a knowledge of woods, manufactured boards, metals and plastics whereas students choosing a product design course will study compliant materials such as card and paper in combination with one or two other resistant materials such as metal, woods or plastics.
