Used as the first two lessons with Y13. Contains an intro to the course with quick quiz. Leads the students to consider existing knowledge of language and CLA. Moves onto a transcript and a straightforward analytical task introducing students on how their answers should be structured, followed by a peer assessment activity. Contains information on CDS satisfying A01 and A02. Includes further reading.

An extract with questions designed at encouraging students to consider context, audience and use of terminology more. This was used with a mid-high ability Y7 class following an assessment on the blank extract. This meant that students could show progress.

Introduction to Piaget with knowledge for A01 and A01. Printable worksheet to accompany slides and activities to check learning. Includes critique of theory. I found this covers 2 lessons.

An introduction to lexical and semantic development. Looks at holophrases, Nelson, Rescorla, Aitchison. Various activities along the way to check understanding including looking at a small transcript.

Introduction to the functions of language according to Halliday and Dore. Students complete grid and transcript annotation selecting functions before producing their own transcript. Answers included.

A range of writing tasks looking at the skills needed for AQA paper 2B. These include topics such as healthy eating, death penalty and identity. Could potentially last a number of weeks.

Introductory lessons looking at how to put together an A Level answer. Uses 2008 example texts found in the Edexcel data pack on the Edexcel website https://qualifications.pearson.com/en/qualifications/edexcel-a-levels/english-language-2015.coursematerials.html#filterQuery=category:Pearson-UK:Category%2FSpecification-and-sample-assessments. Looks at how identity is shown in a teenage magazine article vs political speech. Includes template for researching theory. Could easily be adapted for AQA meanings and representations. Includes potential sentence openers/ structures.

Walk through Act 2:4 focusing on pathetic fallacy and questioning students. Includes starter to prompt debate and essay template. Use with an MA class. We read the whole Scene as part of this lesson but zoomed in on key areas.

Macbeth revision quiz with three rounds including vocabulary, quotation catchphrase and the plot. Also, a literacy task looking at exam skills needed for the literature exam- used as a starter,

Feedback proforma used to assess Individual Variation mock exam- Edexcel English Language A Level. Targets highlighted on left and strengths and weaknesses related to A0s on left.

Students were shown the video clip of this scene on You Tube and then asked to give their ideas to the questions listed. WIth a LA these questions helped removed the fear of looking at Shakesperian English.
