This extensive resource includes a guide to creating an E-Textiles portfolio using a sketchbook and a presentation folder.
Examples of every page and a description of what goes on the page.
This example is based on an E-Textiles project, however it could be adapted to be used as a guide for any Design Technology project.
Each page gives a detailed description of the page requirements plus examples including analysis of each stage.
My students love this marble maze project as an interesting introduction into microcontrollers.
Based around the Genie CO8 Microcontroller the circuit uses LDRs to identify when a marble drops down the holes in the maze.
Here I have uploaded the Scheme of works, a student E-Portfolio and homework booklet, and a weekly teachers How 2 to be placed on screen.
The E-Portfolio also includes full instructions for the student about what is required and where.
Circuits wizard and 2D design files are available upon request at Nicoladuty@gmail.com, however the files are the wrong format to be added directly onto the site.
I hope your students enjoy this project as much as mine do. Please feel free to E-Mail me to request PCB and CAD files, simply specify the files you want and the name of the project.
This set of resources gives you everything you need to plan and deliver a Mood Light Project.
Included within this pack you will find:-
- Week by week PowerPoint reminders for students to be displayed on whiteboards (this can be edited as required)
- Student E-Portfolio template with activities aimed at developing students knowledge and understanding, Including full instructions for student.
- How 2 guide showing students how to develop their own PCB using Circuit Wizard
- PCB template for students
- PCB example that can be used for less able students
- Circuit diagram
- 2D Design CAD/CAM files for the case of the product
Genie Microcontrollers offer students a fantastic array of inventive opportunities to develop a broad range of projects. Students are able to use their imagination and solve real life problems with these low cost PIC's, however managing a classroom full of students who all want to develop different circuits can be a challenge.
I developed the Genie how 2 book in order to give students the opportunity to independently create their own circuits with minimal teacher support.
The students start by creating a basic Genie E18 circuit (I have found this to be the most versatile and best value for money). The student then use the guide to show them how to add whichever input and output components that they choose.
Students can follow the guide to create a PCB layout and to create a flow chart to program their microcontroller.
I have found this to be a very effective tool within my classroom and it encourages differentiation and independent learning.
I hope you find the guide as useful as my students do.
Information cards for 19 different input components.
Giving information about how the component works, circuit symbols, applications and advantages and disadvantages of each component.
Very detailed information cards in language that is accessible to students.
Great for GCSE students studying the new GCSE Design Technology specifications.
A comprehensive set of information cards giving details of a range of electronic output components that may be used by students.
These cards can be used on screen or printed.
Students can work independently to design their own systems with all of the information they need to select the correct components at their finger tips.
This Bundle includes resources aimed at raising students awareness of the environmental impact of design and energy uses.
The sustainability lesson focusses on the 6R's, Carbon Footprints and Product Life Cycles.
The energy lessons focus on the pros and cons of various energy sources.
The lessons are interactive and require full student participation.
I hope you enjoy this resource.
This project has everything you need to run a steady hand game project.
Aimed at KS3 the class booklet introduces simple concepts such as resistance values and thyristor pin names. The booklet also covers designing, analysis of ideas and evaluating the final outcome.
The homework booklet reinforces learning. There are also a range of extension tasks.
You will find a week by week pictorial guide showing students what to do, there is also a pictorial circuit population guide that you can print off, I have them laminated so they can be reused time after time. Students really enjoy the freedom of being able to follow the guide themselves.
I have included zipped 2D design files for the case and zipped PCB files compatible with circuit wizard that can be used to make your PCB's.
My students love this project. I hope your do too.
Turn your students into independent learners with these well presented, informative information cards.
Packed with information about the Transistors, Darlington Pairs, 555 Monostable and Astable, 4017b Decade counters, 4026 Decade counters, Logic Gates, the NAND gate as all other gates, Operational Amplifiers - Inverting, Non-inverting and as Comparators, and Microcontrollers.
I designed these information cards to be used by students who are developing system diagrams. Students often feel overwhelmed when it comes to designing systems because they are unsure which input, process and output components to choose and they are unsure what they all do.
These cards provide the answers so students can easily assess whether the component will meet their needs. Obviously the students will learn much more about the individual components along the way!
Buy this resource on its own or as part of a bundle including a starter on systems diagrams, and activity where students design systems in order to meet specific design briefs and a set of Input component information cards.
Output component cards will be online soon.
This bundle includes how to guides for the development of a lap counter circuit diagram and PCB.
Also includes a Portfolio to be used as a teaching aid that teaches about switch bounce, 555 monostable circuits and the 7 segment display.
The portfolio also covers task analysis and evaluations using ACCESSFM as a framework.
I have also included one of my GCSE files about the 555 times, showing both astable and monostable calculations and mark/ space ratio.
If you like this resource please give some positive feedback.
You can also search for ElectroNic on Facebook
Range of simple starters that you can either adapt with your own questions or use in their current form.
Aimed at ensuring full student participation these activities make use of whiteboards, traffic light cards and other activities.
This Latching alarm project is a great way to introduce students to the role of the thyristor.
The students can follow the guide to design their own PCBs. My students use a key switch and magnetic proximity switch, they love the idea that if someone breaks into their room then they won't be able to turn the alarm off unless they have the key! My students make a vacuum formed case, there is a 2D design file included within the zipped file, you can use this as a starting point to make your mould, or you can just make your own.
Included is an E-Portfolio template with great instructions showing students what they need to do. The weekly how 2 guide can be used to set lesson objectives. There is an emphasis on independent learning and analysis. Homework activities support learning.
Template for GCSE students.
GCSE students struggle to ensure that they have included everything that they need to gain maximum marks in their controlled assessment.
This E-Portfolio template can be used in one of two ways, either each individual student can edit their own copy with their own project details, alternatively this can be used as a reminder of what is needed on the page to be displayed to all students via the white board.
Aimed at encouraging thorough analysis and evaluation throughout the project and to encourage independent learning this portfolio has proved to be highly effective.
My students really love this microcontroller project.
The project utilises the Genie C08 Microcontroller. I give the students a pre-made project (they develop the flow chart to program the chip).
This project includes an E-Portfolio template to guide students through the design and make activity. (Homework tasks are also included)
There is a week by week guide to be used to set lesson objectives. Also included is a 2D design template, flowchart and PCB files.
Students will learn how to program a microcontroller to respond to changes in an analogue signal. There is also an emphasis on analysis and evaluation with prompts referring to ACCESSFM.
Everything you need to make run an amplifier project.
Aimed at year 8 the PCB is made in school (circuit wizard file in zipped file). We use and MDF frame and glue the front and back into place. Unlike the kitronik version, my version has a switch and an LED within the circuit.
This project in a box includes a class booklet, homework booklet, printable guide showing students how to populate the circuit and a weekly presentation that you can use to help students through the various steps.
Images are used to show students exactly what they need to do. My students love the freedom of following the guide themselves.
Also included is an interactive lesson about the components used in the mono amplifier. The resource includes information cards, a quiz book and a plenary.

More resources to be added soon
This resource is aimed at helping students to understand how to develop systems diagrams and which components will best suit the needs of the design brief.
The starter activity introduces the concept of systems diagrams and asks students to correctly identify Input, Process and Output components. The students are then given the information cards and asked to select suitable components to meet the design briefs.
I created this resource having taught electronic products for years and finding that I needed a way to make the principles behind the development of systems ideas more intuitive.
In addition to
Lots of resources to support students who study electronics.
Great to support teachers trying to meet the electronics elements of the new Design Technology specification
