Spanish films and complex opinions (avoiding 'me gusta')

Some series I had to translate literally and some to their actual translation. There’s a starter to get them thinking about film titles and generally capture their imagination and then an introduction to film styles and a recap of opinions like ‘me gusta’. Final task is a ‘busca alguien que’ style task but you could number them and play ladrones a la Conti.

Lorca: Su teatro, el cine ruso/teatro de masas y La Barraca (pre-La Casa de Bernarda Alba reading)

This took a while, I’ve compiled lots of interviews into one big interview. I have edited only one or two things so they flow better. This is a pre-La Casa activity so students can get to know the man who went on to be murdered by the Nationalist regime. There’s a focus on La Barraca, russian cinema and propaganda and it’s probably worth discussing after why the nationalist regime would have found Lorca’s love for russian cinema for the masses an issue.

Madrid street signs 2024

A side quest of our Madrid trip was photographing street signs with accessible language ranging from easy to hard. The result is this resource! This was inspired by a similar resource by @MrFrancisMFL who created a Bilbao version a few years ago! Ideal for a pre or post-Madrid trip lesson for those trip attendees and those who didn’t make it.

Boletín (Weekly A Level Spanish news and exam practice)

Boletín is a weekly A Level Spanish newsletter. Every uniquely designed edition includes three topical texts, a vocabulary search and an A Level exam style question. Apologies in advance that upon downloading the latest edition you’ll see that every prior edition also downloads. At the time of creation TES allowed users to pick and choose which files they could download, this feature has since been removed.

I printed the list of builidings as A4 booklets. I found that lots of students went over budget and this resulted in me giving out lots of loans which students had to justify. Lots of loans were turned down as planning permission wasn’t granted by the council. Please let me know if there’s anything you’d add or if you use it differently with success!
