The tale by S.W.Maugham has attracted my attention by its plot. I like fairy tales as their world is very bright and morals are wise. It’s adapted it a little bit and intend as a home reading task to discuss it in class afterwards. It’s followed by 2 0 questions.

Present Perfect & Simple Past Card Game

(0)
Card game to practice the two tenses. Each card has an irregular verb and a time word (for, since, already, yet, just, ago, last, yesterday etc). Students have to make sentences using whats on their cards. Cut and laminate the cards. Don’t forget to print both sets as many times as you need for your classroom. Get the students in pairs or small groups. Shuffle the cards and put them face down. The students take turns to pick a card and make a sentence using the given words. If the sentence is correct they keep the card. If not, the other student gets a chance to correct it. If the 2nd student gets it right (s)he keeps the card. If not the teacher says the correct sentence and keeps the card! Now it’s the second student’s turn to play anyway - they don’t lose turns for wrong sentences, only cards. At the end of the game they count the cards in their hand to find the winner.

Cut out these cards and let your students play taboo. Split your class in two groups, the first student of group A has to describe the word on the card - he/she is neither allowed to talk any word in her mother tongue nor to say one of the words below the pictures. If a group guesses the word in about thirty seconds, they’ll get a point. Play it in turn.
