1. As a straightforward reading activity with a quiz. 2. As a communication exercise. To use as a communication exercise, cut the story in half. Split it between partners. Students must read the story and try to remember the information. Then take the story away. The students must try to tell their partner what happened in their story. Give the students the quiz. Half the answers they will know from their half of the story, half from their partner´s story.

An authentic reading material based on an article taken from "Time." The article is about the history of the most popular social network - Facebook. You can make it both reading and listening (if you read it out to your students, or record yourself, which I did - that was fun experience). The comprehension part contains multiple-choice, T/F questions, open-ended questions and vocabulary part.

Instructions for the teacher:
Print out the cards on pages 1 to 3, laminate them and cut them out.
Divide your class in 2 teams and give each team 9 question cards. One team gets the yellow cards, the other team receives the blue ones.
Have every student in each team ask at least one question to the other team and answer at least one of the other team questions in order to make the not so confident student speak, too.
All 3 questions on each card have to be answered correctly by the other team!! If they give only 1 wrong answer, they cannot win the card from the other team!
The team which has gathered the most question cards at the end of the game is the winner.

Tis is a story about family who died in the accident. It is a nice bit to use and teach past continuous. You can also ask your students to underline the past continuous or retell the story.
