Scatter Graphs
Owen134866Owen134866

Scatter Graphs

(40)
Powerpoint and worksheet on plotting Scatter Graphs, identifying correlation and using lines of best fit. The data on the sheet has come from somewhere else but I'm not sure exactly where from! You will need to write over some of the slides... If you like this resource then please check out my other stuff on here!
Egyptian Fractions
Owen134866Owen134866

Egyptian Fractions

(5)
Pupils can learn about fractions by doing divisions the Egyptian way! For a more exciting powerpoint, please check out cbarclay99’s at this link: http://www.tes.co.uk/teaching-resource/Egyptian-Fractions-6255731/ If you like this resource then please check out my other stuff on here! :)
Scale Drawings of Buildings
Owen134866Owen134866

Scale Drawings of Buildings

(24)
Pupils have to use the heights of one building to estimate the heights of others, and produce sketches of several well known buildings to scale. If you like this resource then please check out my other stuff on here!
Multiplicative Relationships
Owen134866Owen134866

Multiplicative Relationships

(8)
3 lessons on ratio problems, but with an emphasis on using fractions in calculations and not relying on calculators or decimals. The students may well have seen ratio already in which case their methods may be different to those used here, which is fine! If you like this resource then please check out my other stuff on here! :)
Probability: Which games are worth playing?

Probability: Which games are worth playing?

(4)
This is a better version of something I uploaded onto here a while ago. Pupils have to use probability, the cost of playing a game and prize money to determine whether fairground games are worth playing or not. There should be plenty of work here and could be extended into creating their own games that they would make a profit on! If you like this resource then please check out my other stuff on here! :)
Equations for Proportion
Owen134866Owen134866

Equations for Proportion

(4)
These lessons have been made to go with the IGCSE course but could easily be adapted. Pupils learn how to write equations for quantities linked by Direct or Inverse Proportion. If you like this resource then please check out my other stuff on TES! :)
Car Hire Graphs
Owen134866Owen134866

Car Hire Graphs

(5)
Lesson on plotting graphs of two Car Hire companies and interpreting the shape of the graphs and what their 'features' actually mean. If you like this resource then please check out my other stuff on here!
Algorithms
Owen134866Owen134866

Algorithms

(2)
2 lessons on using Algorithms to generate sequences and coordinate pairs. Good for stretching some high ability pupils with some (probably) new Algebraic notation for them. Also has worksheets for them to do. If the shapes in the Algorithms are wrong, please let me know so I can correct them! if you like this resource them please check out my other stuff on TES! :)
Iteration and Square Roots
Owen134866Owen134866

Iteration and Square Roots

(3)
In this lesson, students learn what iteration is and see an example of how it was used to calculate square roots of non-square numbers. There is an explanation of the notation involved and students get to try the process out for themselves. Could be used as an introduction to the topic. Midpoints of Quadrilaterals
Owen134866Owen134866

Midpoints of Quadrilaterals

(7)
Lesson where students learn to calculate the midpoint between two coordinates, but then apply this to sides of shapes on coordinate axes and discuss what they notice. Could be extended to more polygons and the more able can try to explain the 'why' behind the patterns they find. If you like this resource then please check out my other stuff on TES! :) https://www.tes.com/resources/search/?authorId=2095097
Algebraic Fractions
Owen134866Owen134866

Algebraic Fractions

(1)
This resource has been made to go with the IGCSE course but should be fine for others. Pupils see how to add Algebraic fractions, as well as deal with some equations with fractions in. There are quite a few topics which need covering before this lesson! If you like this resource then please check out my other stuff on TES! :)
Swapped Orders
Owen134866Owen134866

Swapped Orders

(1)
I use this lesson after teaching pupils some of the basics of Algebra. They perform 2 operations on a number and write down the answer. Then, they swap the operations around and write the answer for that as well. They should notice that the difference between the answers follows some kind of pattern, and then have to try and use some algebra to explain it. If you like this resource then please check out my other stuff on TES! :)
The Von Koch Snowflake
Owen134866Owen134866

The Von Koch Snowflake

(1)
Pupils investigate the Von Koch snowflake and try to find algebraic rules for its area and perimeter. The powerpoint includes handouts at the end as well as a starter and plenaries. Ultimately, the pupils will learn that the perimeter of the UK is infinite! :) If you like this resource then please check out my other stuff on TES!
Co-prime Coordinates Investigation
Owen134866Owen134866

Co-prime Coordinates Investigation

(1)
Pupils investigate which coordinates it is possible to draw a straight line to from the origin, without passing through any other coordinates. Can lead into highest common factor or be used after it! If you like this resource then please check out my other stuff on here! :) EDIT 30/10/13: Improved the sheet so the dots are smaller!
Graph Transformations Matchups
Owen134866Owen134866

Graph Transformations Matchups

(1)
This resource contains 3 sets of graphs to be matched with their transformations. There is also a question sheet with extra problems based on each set. The graphs were all produced for this resource using the fantastic Desmos graphing tool (www.desmos.com). If you like this resource then please check out my other resources on TES! https://www.tes.com/teaching-resources/shop/Owen134866
Multiples Investigation
Owen134866Owen134866

Multiples Investigation

(5)
Pupils have to answer several true or false statements relating to whether multiples can be made using numbers in a list (have a look at the worksheet and you'll get the idea!) They then have to try and come up with clear explanations as to why the statements are true or false, and there is the opportunity to use algebra. Can be extended into longer lists and multiples of larger numbers. If you like this resource then please check out my other stuff on here! :)
Diophantus' Triples
Owen134866Owen134866

Diophantus' Triples

(3)
A lesson on the rules Diophantus came up with to create Pythagorean Triples. The main challenge is for higher ability pupils to prove why his method works using algebra. Weaker higher level pupils should still be able to do the numerical version though, and possibly start on the algebraic one... If you like this resource then please check out my other stuff on here!
Interpreting Unusual Diagrams
Owen134866Owen134866

Interpreting Unusual Diagrams

(3)
Quite a varied selection of Diagrams for pupils to try and interpret and draw conclusions from. A bit more interesting than the standard Bar/Line/Pie Chart or Pictogram lesson! I usually print these as colour A4 booklets and give the students 2 lessons to work through them and explain their thoughts. If you liked this resource then please check out my others (all free!)
Algebraic Number Pyramids
Owen134866Owen134866

Algebraic Number Pyramids

(2)
Pupils investigate how to make a number pyramid have the largest number at the top, given some numbers they have to put at the bottom. They should then try to explain (algebraically if possible) why it works. Leads into Pascal's Triangle and I usually give them another lesson investigating whatever patterns they can find within it! The 1st page is for the lesson and the 2nd page with the triangle on it is for the investigation. If you like this then please check out my other stuff on here! :)
Making Shapes with Graphs
Owen134866Owen134866

Making Shapes with Graphs

(2)
Pupils are shown how to describe Horizonal, Vertical and some basic Diagonal lines (such as x = 1, y = -2, y = x etc...) They then use these lines to create shapes on a coordinate grid, ensuring they label the lines every time... If you like this resource then please check out my other stuff on here!
