TIMES TABLES RANDOM TEST

I am not a teacher, I am just interested in using Excel to help children learn maths in a fun way. On each sheet there are a random number of multiplication sums where the answers may be entered straight onto the computer. I hope it will be of some use.

HOMOPHONES WORD SPIRALS

(0)
This file contains ten printable word spirals. All of the words used in these puzzles are commonly misspelt or confused with other similar-sounding words. The answers to the clues should be written in a clockwise direction around the numbered grid. The last letter of each word will become the first letter of the next. Once completed, the shaded squares reading from top to bottom will reveal another homophone. I have included two versions, one in PDF and the second an Excel file, whichever is your preference.

CHRISTMAS ALPHABET QUIZ

(0)
The Christmas Alphabet Quiz comes in two formats. When using the first sheet, the answers can be entered directly onto the computer. It begins with a blank sheet and after entering NOEL into the red square the first question will appear. There is one Christmas-themed question for each letter of the alphabet. The second sheet is a printable version of the same quiz for use as a seasonal class exercise. I have also included a separate PDF version of the printable sheet, and a PowerPoint presentation whichever is your preference.
CHEMICAL ELEMENTS

CHEMICAL ELEMENTS

(0)
This file contains six worksheets and the aim of the exercise is to name the chemical elements represented by the chemical symbols shown. Each test begins with a blank sheet and after entering X into the blue square the first symbol will appear. The name of the chemical element should then be typed into the space alongside. Once all 20 symbols have been identified the score will come into view, together with the time taken.

This file contains one criss-cross puzzle and one wordsearch, both using characters who appear in Shakespeare’s “Othello”. In the criss-cross puzzle the student will be asked to name the characters from the clues provided, and then enter these into the matching squares in the numbered grid. In the word-search puzzle the student has to find in the grid all the characters listed. For both puzzles, there is a printable sheet for the student and a solution sheet for the teacher. As usual, to make the answers easier to locate in the word-search solution, I have highlighted the first letter of each name in yellow, or orange when the letter begins two names running in different directions. I have included two versions, one in PDF and the second an Excel file, whichever is your preference.

I have put together some spelling tips for just a few of those annoying words which I am sure we have all hesitated over at times in our writing! I do hope that someone will find it useful and indeed if it does gain any interest I shall endeavour to add extra words in the future. It comes in PowerPoint format and there is also a PDF version.

PUBLICSECONDARYPUBLICSECONDARY

ADDITION & SUBTRACTION WORKSHEETS - 2 DIGITS

(0)
In the first file I have created 56 random lists of two digit addition questions, all resulting in only two digit answers and none of which include carrying. The second file contains 150 random lists of two digit addition questions, but this time they all involve carrying. There are two types of printable formats, the first intended as a question sheet asking the pupils to write the answers as sums into their exercise books. With the second version the answers may be written directly onto the worksheet. Once you have chosen which version you want to use, enter a list number in the yellow box to produce an A4 sheet of 12 questions - the yellow box and surrounding area will not be displayed in the print-out and I have left the title cells unlocked so that you may re-name if required. I have included numbers list sheets allowing you to highlight each list every time you print a newly generated question sheet, making it easy for you to keep a record of the lists you have already used. There are also answers sheets. For those who would prefer the convenience of having all the sheets immediately visible and ready the print, or simply do not like Excel, I have now added PDF versions. I have also included 56 worksheets of Two Digit Subtractions. If these are favourably received I will be happy to do the same with those worksheets that involve carrying. pssg1955@gmail.com
MISPLACED APOSTROPHES

MISPLACED APOSTROPHES

(0)
This is my ode to the humble apostrophe! I thought it might encourage pupils to take more notice when they are out and about and perhaps to report back on all those misplaced apostrophes they are almost certainly going to find. I hope that it will be of use to someone in the community.

NUMBER PUZZLE

This is that old chestnut “Think of a number” but with a twist, as this time there is no need to subtract the number you first thought of to accurately predict the result. A late bit of fun for end of term whilst still calling on those important addition and multiplication skills! Use as a PowerPoint or simply print the middle slide.

Again I have included solution sheets for the teacher. I have since included a PDF version.

TIMES TABLES CHALLENGE

(0)
The Times Tables Challenge can be used in school or at home to test Times Tables skill and speed. There are 10 worksheets, each containing 4 identical randomly-placed Times Tables (1-12). The aim is to see how quickly Grid 1 can be completed, with a box to record the time taken, then later the same can be done with Grid 2 and so on to see if speed and accuracy can be improved upon. I have included two versions, one in PDF and the second an Excel file, whichever is your preference.
