Particular focus on how Homer is developing the character of Odysseus by comparing the attack on the city of the Cicones and the encounter with Polyphemus. Students are asked to look at these events in relation to Homeric Heroism.

Students need to match the cards based on the full beginning blend with its “opposite”, the card with the part of the blend missing. A fun activity that asks students to look closely at Homer’s description of Calypso’s island. I have used this activity not only as revision of Book 5, but as a way to produce wonderful creative writing. (This activity produces great classroom display material!) Students are asked to design a postcard describing their reaction to Calypso’s island, having taken a cruise ship to see the place. 3 pages outlining the activity; suggesting what to include in the postcard. Postcard template isn’t included.
