Lesson 1 in a series of lessons aimed to promote reading a writing skills (focusing on Non-Fiction and Media Texts). The presentation features a series of thought provoking images where pupils are guided to discuss their thoughts as a class (or in groups) to develop an understanding of the issues facing animal welfare. The final task is to create a speech to state whether the pupil is for or against battery hen farming to be banned in the U.K. This can then be peer assessed with the worksheet provided the material provided is not intended to influence pupils opinions rather develop confidence to voice their own.

A clear and easy to follow baseline for pupils in KS3 and KS4. A fast paced and engaging full lesson providing GCSE 1-9 grades for pupils to self-assess their own work. The lesson begins with a recap of descriptive techniques with a worksheet which pupils can complete individually or in pairs. Pupils then assess exemplar pieces of writing according to the 1-9 framework. The main task pupils will produce their own piece of descriptive writing (describing a chocolate bar) using the example provided. The final task is a structured peer assessment task, where pupils provide feedback for their pairs.

Creative Writing. KS3 & KS4. Fits the Edexcel English Language Framework (can be used with all other exam board frameworks for creative writing). Preparation for both Paper 1 and 2. Objective 1 (AO2): To be able to identify a simple, compound and complex sentence and discuss their effect. Objective 2 (AO6): To be able to use a variety of sentence types to make your writing exciting to read. Objectives are the broken down into grade boundaries 2-6 from the GCSE 1-9 scale. Suitable for KS2 and KS3 classes. The lesson highlights how pupils can vary their sentence openings to engage their readers. Pupils assess the effect of a series of sentence openers, they then break down the differences between the sentence openings, before creating their own story using a stimuli, which has built up from previous activities. A fast-paced lesson with varied activities.

A very easy to follow presentation and accompanying worksheet (which is suitable to complete alongside the presentation or for homework). Pupils identify the rules of using apostrophes for contraction and possession before a series of correction activities, which can be done individually or as a whole class.
