The lesson highlights how pupils can vary their sentence openings to engage their readers. Pupils assess the effect of a series of sentence openers, they then break down the differences between the sentence openings through a series of activities, before creating their own story using a stimuli, which has built up from previous activities.

The main activity consists of a pupil led analysis of two leaflets (designed to cover a small range of language and structural features) and finally the plenary consists of a peer assessment task (worksheet for this is attached). The entire lesson is very pupil-led, containing fast-paced, engaging tasks.
