Once I have introduced the basics of the programming concepts, there are always students who the concept 'clicks' with and they are able to complete the program as other students work through at a slower pace. By having Challenge Cards on display in the class, as they finish a task, they can practice using the programming concept in independent challenges.
Challenge tasks are used with Year 8 to develop the programming concepts introduced in the unit: Sequence, Lists, Selection and Iteration.
Key Stage 3 Computing
Year 8 Spring term assessment.
Introduction to computer networks.
Differentiated questions include: Binary, internet, topologies, client-server networks, cloud storage and encryption.
Year 7 Summer Term Assessment.
Understanding Computers.
Differentiated questions on: The computer system, hardware and software.
Following a unit where students were introduced to the workings of a computer, and creating a flash animation on the topic, this assessment checks their understanding of the underlying theory.
Introduction to Python workbook.
Assessment of prior knowledge introduced via Scratch.
Introductory tasks.
Workbook used for e-marking, rather than printing out each lesson. Peer and self assessment carried out on computer, then uploaded for teacher marking.
Tricky Words Revision Resource
A451 Computer Systems & Programming
Get your students ready for the A451 exam with this keyword sheet.
a) Circle the ones you don't understand
b) Starter: Allocate a word to each member of the class, they need to explain it to the rest of the class
c) Plenary: Choose a word, explain it to leave the lesson
d) Home revision: You need to know what these words mean for the exam,
Fill students with confidence by word recognition.
Good luck to all your students in the exam.
Hit by the announcement this week that the ECDL no longer counts!
Year 10 half way through the course?
Need an alternative quick?
The BTEC First Award in Information and Creative Technology is the solution.
In this presentation, as shared with my Year 10, is how I have developed the BTEC to motivate and engage students in a new course focus.
The Name Game
'Easy Markers' - Ensure your students get the 'identification' questions in the A451 exam with these knowledge wheels.
Use them as discussion tools, plenary activities or for 1-2-1 revision with low ability students.
Model used for controlled assessments.
Used with students midway through OCR 20 Programming Challenges, to get Year 10 students to reflect and focus on the different stages in the Programming Cycle of Assessment and the importance.
Class discussion of each stage, followed by students explaining and evidencing each stage.
This enables them to work at a higher level and to understand the process required in September.
Self & Peer Assessment Wheels.
Laminate and put by computers during assessment and then as part of the self and peer assessment process, so that students see what is required for 'Emerging', 'Developing', 'Secure' or 'Exceeding' expectations.
BTEC Business
Unit 2 Finance - Cash Flow and Bu
Lesson 6: Budget of a mini-enterprise company.
Teaching the exam unit with application to the Enterprise coursework.
Teacher worksheet with solution.
Student worksheet for sharing with students.
Suitable for GCSE Business revision (A293)
BTEC Business Finance
LAB2 Cash Flow & Budgeting
Worksheet 5 Completing & Analysing a cash flow forecast.
Activity
Teacher solution
Designed as prompt cards to remind students of programming skills developed in the 'Introduction to Python' and 'Python Efficiency' units.
Whilst students attempt OCR's '20 Programming Challenges', these cards are useful for reminding students of programming techniques such as iteration, selection, list (arrays), functions, SQL etc.
Created so they can be printed out on card, and displayed in pockets at the front of class. Students then collect and refer to during the tasks preparing them for the controlled assessment in September.
Also a 'compilation set' for students for revision purposes.
Target: Year 3
Group: Pupils struggling with keeping letters the correct way round
Background to resource: This resource was developed to help my son in Year 3 with his handwriting. He saw handwriting as a 'chore' and when tired, he would put letters facing in the wrong direction. We named the groups of letters that he commonly got wrong, and discussed them in terms of facing towards the left hand (gdqy) and the right-hand (bkpts), and then he practised using my guide. His letters generally face in the correct direction now, so I hope this resource can help other teachers too.
GCSE Business/Business Communication Systems
Business Ownership
Revision Session:
“Miss, can you go through ownership again – I still can’t remember the difference between Private Limited Company and Public Limited Company!”
“Miss, I still can’t answer why a sole trader or partnership would want to become a Private Limited Company!”
Resource prepared to generate discussion prior to attempting exam questions in preparation for the mock exam.
BTEC Business - Unit 2 Business Finance
LA.B2 Cash Flow Forecast
Lesson 4: Cash Flow - using mini-enterprise receipts and spending.
This is the fourth lesson in the Cash Flow module, where students are start using the concepts and link them to the mini-enterprise businesses they are running in class.
Student worksheet (differentiated - LAP & MAP+) and solution.
Target: Year 3
Group: Pupils struggling with keeping handwriting consistent size.
Background to resource: This resource was developed to help my son in Year 3 with his handwriting. He saw handwriting as a 'chore' and his writing kept changes sizes throughout a sentence. We named the groups of letters, and discussed them, and then he practised using my guide. His handwriting is looking better now, so I hope this resource can help other teachers too.
Key Stage 3 Computer Science
A unit which introduces Year 7 students to the Computer System.
Theory is used to create an animation in Flash, thus developing ICT skills whilst learning Computer Science theory.
Developing unit during Spring Term 2, so more resources to follow shortly.
