Year 8 Scheme of work Winter's Tale

This is a scheme of work focused on the Shakespeare play A Winter's Tale. The focus of the unit is on the dramatization of a set scene: the scene were Hermione awakens from being a statue. The central concept is on directorial choices and how this changes the audience's reaction to the scene. This is an excellent unit to complete at the end of the year and there is a lot of fun to be had in creating lollipop puppets and performing the play as mini puppet shows.

Year 8 Scheme of work Emotion

This is an excellent unit to cover social and moral issues, as well as covering aspects of the PSHE curriculum. The aim of the unit is to focus on spoken language and how choices in spoken language can impact on the audience. The unit acts as an excellent introduction to reception theory and could be completed before moving on to look at some form of literature where the writer has made purposeful choices.

Year 8 scheme of work Minority Voice

The aim of this unit is to consider the impact that context has on the content and voice in literature. This is a sophisticated concept and one that would suit a particularly bright group. However, all age groups can begin to appreciate how a writer writes about what they know and is influenced by the world that they live in. The unit offers three different eras on which to focus: suffragettes, the Irish troubles or Slavery. This is an excellent cross curricular unit, to complete in tandem with History.

Year 9 Scheme of Learning IF

This unit is focused on thinking skills. The unit is written in a style that promotes workshop followed by student group work. Teachers can also set up master classes and doctor's surgeries to help mediate the group work and the research and production skills. The unit begins with the central concept of "What if" and students are encouraged to make up their own "What if" questions, research the possibilities and then find a creative way to present the outcomes. This broadens students minds about the world around them and promotes philosophical thinking.

Year 7 animal poetry scheme of work

This is a half term unit of work aimed at helping students to write a poem of their own. The principle of the unit is that students learn the techniques used by poets and use these techniques themselves, referring to themselves as a poet as they write. The theme is animals and all poems referenced can be found on the internet. It is wonderful, at the end of the unit, to publish the class's work as an anthology.

These PowerPoint lessons are focused on the play Whose Life is it Anyway? that explores the topic of euthanasia. The lessons are in no particular sequence and were originally designed to support the writing of coursework. The lessons can be adapted for work towards an examination. This would be an excellent introduction to writing about drama for a Year 9 class.
