A selection of “Retrieval Activities” based around GCSE Studio French Module 5 For each 2 page spread in the chapter (including Point de Départ pages), there are 2 powerpoint slides which can be used to help students recap previously learned vocabulary and structures: a) “Cinq par Jour” - a selection of 5 questions ranging from single word / short phrase translation to an open ended question for students to answer in French b) A retrieval grid of 16 items for students to translate. Items are colour-coded and worth between 1 and 4 points depending on difficulty. An easy way to measure progress over time and incorporate an element of competition into lessons. Ideal as no-prep starters or a “refresh your memory” interval in a double lesson!

An easy, no prep way to build some retrieval skills and speaking practice in to your lessons. 20 questions in French based around the GCSE topic of School. The questions flash rapidly across the screen. Press “S” to pause the presentation and generate a question for your students to answer. For students who need that extra support, a set of sample answers is also included as a separate file. You could test your students’ comprehension of the questions by simply asking them to note the letter of the correct answer; or ask them to amend the answer (either verbally or in writing) by changing the text highlighted in red. Questions included: Quelles matières fais-tu? Quelle est ta matière préférée? Pourquoi? Comment sont tes professeurs? Les cours commencent à quelle heure? Les cours finissent à quelle heure? Que fais-tu pendant la pause déjeuner? Qu’est ce-ce que tu manges àla cantine? Quel est ton jour préféré à l’école? Pourquoi? Qu’est ce-que tu as fait à l’école hier? Comment est ton uniforme solaire? Que faisais-tu à l’école primaire? Comment sont les règlements à l’école? Quelle matière n’aimes-tu pas? Pourquoi? Qu’est ce-que tu vas étudier l’année prochaine? De quoi es-tu fier / fière à l’école? Il y a combien d’élèves et de professeurs? Comment est le batîment? Décris ton emploi du temps C’est quelle sorte de collège? A selection of “One Pen One Dice” activities for GCSE Studio French Module 3 Students take it in turns to roll the dice. The first person who rolls a 6 takes the pen and starts translating. Player 2 rolls the dice until they roll a 6 and says “C’est à moi” (It’s my turn!) This player has now won the pen and can start translating. Player 1 has the dice and needs a 6 to steal the pen. The winner is the first person to correctly translate all the sentences. NB: To make this activity “COVID-safe”, students should have a dice each and use their own pen.
