There are 6 slides which show step-by-step how to use the task cards. Before you show the next stage, you could ask students ‘What do you do next?’ before showing the next step. Ask the students to count the counters/dots as they appear in the animation. Ask students how many counters are crossed when the animation has crossed through the counters/dots. Get the students to say how many counters are left before revealing the answer. 55 Subtraction Task Cards (PDF) Print out the task cards and laminate. These can be used in small group sessions or as part of a whole lesson. After showing the demo on how to use the task cards, students can practise writing taking sums. Make it clear to the students that they must count all the counters on the tens frame, the big number, and write this down. Then count the counters with the crosses which shows they have been taken away. You could even cover up the counters with crosses with a blank sheet of paper show demonstrate they have been taken away.
