Letters and Sounds: Phase 3 Consonant Digraphs This is a phonics resource on consonant digraphs. It is an ideal addition to my other resources on consonant digraphs. It is aimed at Keystage 1 and more able Foundation children, SEND and ESL students. The strips are differentiated and gives students the opportunity to read, write and practise digraphs using the visual images as prompts. **Consonant digraphs: sh, ch, th, ng, ck, ph and wh. ** The pack contains: Plain strips - Student look at the picture and practise writing the word - There are 4 different words containing the same digraph. E.g. shoes, shell, fish, dish. Trace over dots - again 4 different words for the same digraph Jumbled words strips - unscramble the word by looking at the picture and writing the word. Jumbled words strips (with highlighted digraph) - The highlighted digraph means they stay together so it only remains for the student to unscramble the rest of the letters. 12 Practice worksheets to consolidate their learning on digraphs. Relates to Letters and Sounds: Phase 4 CCVC (consonant, consonant, vowel, consonant) words. The vowel will represent one sound and can be a vowel, digraph or trigraph, e.g. fright - f-r-igh-t. Aimed at: Years 1 and 2 and/or children still finding it challenging to segment and blend, ESL/EFL students and SEN students. Use in English language learning classes - use pictures as a visual prompt to segment and blend words. This pack includes Teacher Notes 4 sets of differentiated initial consonant blend strips - each set contains 21 initial consonant blends. Plain strips - Children look at the picture, read the word and write it out. This resource focuses on repeated patterns using Christmas patterns and shapes. Students can practise creating their own Christmas patterns. Teacher’s Notes describes the lesson which you can choose to make it last throughout the whole morning or afternoon or 1 hour session. Content: PowerPoint Presentation (10 Slides) - Include whole class activities, examples of repeated Christmas patterns, in the Presentation children are asked where they have seen repeated patterns of pictures - they might mention their wallpaper at home, car seat covers, on printed clothes (e.g. socks) etc. Differentiated Activity Sheets 1 and 2 - Complete the sequence of pictures Activity Sheet 1b – Pictures to cut out to complete Activity Sheets Blank Repeating Patterns Worksheets to create own repeating pattern Extension Patterns Worksheet Extension Christmas Shapes New worksheets for early finishers A one hour lesson for children to explore repeating patterns in the context of Christmas. The lesson should last 50 mins to 1 hour depending on how long your students take to design their patterns: Introduction to set the scene: 10-15mins; Main Lesson 15-20 mins; Consolidation of lesson (work at table): 20 mins; and Plenary/Closing session 5-10mins. Bring in some Christmas wrapping paper with repeated patterns of pictures and/or shapes or you can display Slide 1 showing examples of Christmas patterns. The children may have been wrapping presents or looking at wrapped presents. Focus their attention on the patterns. This lesson takes children through looking at simple picture patterns and working out the next picture in the sequence. Opportunity for children to create their own repeated patterns by cutting and pasting pictures - using pictures on Activity Sheet 1b Opportunity to create a whole sheet of repeated patterns and pictures/shapes to show to the whole class in the plenary- Extensions Pattern Worksheet. Simpson and his donkey with factsheets and worksheets. This is a PowerPoint presentation on one of the most well-known ANZAC, John Simpson Kirkpatrick and his donkey. It is a resource linked to ANZAC Day and bravery. This single phonics pack focuses on initial consonant blend ‘tr’ CCVC words. A natural progression from CVC and CCV to CCVC Phase 4: Letters and Sounds Principles and Practice. Aimed at: Early Years and keystage 1, SEND and ESL/EFL students. It is an addition to my other resources on initial consonant blends. You can decide to put in 15 mins phonics, 30 mins or longer as this is a indepth flexible resource as are the others. One set has highlighted initial blends. Optional: Print out onto card paper/good quality paper, laminate and cut out the pictures and words. Content: Teacher Notes on suggested activities 3 Sets of initial consonant blend pictures with words (one set has highlighted initial blends) 64 black and white pictures relating to initial consonant blends 3 Worksheets - children trace over initial blends and then write in the correct blends to finish incomplete words. 2 Cut/paste worksheet activities - children trace over blends and then write in correct blends to finish incomplete words. Lastly, they cut out the pictures and glue to match the correct completed words. Other Suggested Activities: Pictures only - Mix up different pictures and ask students to find the picture that starts with, e.g. br. Words only - Mix up different words and ask students to sound out the word and/or draw a picture for it. Extension - write sentences. Pictures and words - Mix up different pictures and words for students to match up correctly. Make a word wall using the initial highlighted words as a visual reminder. With the black and white pictures, you can reduce on the copier or leave as is to glue into workbooks. Leave out some words for the children to find the correct word to match the picture in their workbooks. As an extension they can write a sentence using that word. This product relates to telling the time on analogue and digital clocks. Content: • 2 Blank clocks showing 5 mins interval - Students can use these to refer to when working on their activities. • 2 Worksheets – Showing o’clock times to convert to digital times • 8 Worksheets – Different digital clock times which students read and then draw hands on analogue clocks to show correct times. • 8 Worksheets – Different analogue clock times which students convert to the correct digital times for each clock. More challenging • 5 Worksheets - a digital time is shown and 3 analogue clocks of which one of the clocks shows the correct time. Students tick the correct time shown. This resource relates to St. George’s Day (23 April). In contains: A Presentation (48 Slides) on St. George. The presentation starts with a welcome to the whole school. It then shows a stain glass window of St George and arrows pointing to the cross and the shield with St. George cross. There are questions and answers throughout the presentation to involve the children. This resource relates to statistics on the topic of dot plots. It introduces dot plots on PowerPoint (12 Slides). The presentation demonstrates how the data was collected, rearranging data in numerical order, and presenting the data on a frequency table. Using the information on the frequency table, students are shown how to create a dot plot/line plot via Slide Show animation. Two detailed examples are shown. The method is adding the tens numbers first and then counting on the ones for quick mental addition. (If you wish, you can choose your own mental starters). Also includes lesson objectives, main activities on dot plots and recap session. Presentation slides are referred to and there are suggested questions you might want to ask your students. PowerPoint Presentation The presentation explains a dot plot and then looks at two examples from capturing the raw data, presenting them in frequency tables, and then creating dot plots. Case study 1: Students are shown how Mr Smith creates a dot plot from data how long it takes his staff to travel to school. Case study 2: Students are shown how Miss Tucker creates a dot plot to see how many siblings each of her students have. Independent Practice Worksheet 1 (2pgs): Selling Cupcakes Page 1 - Students read a very short paragraph in order to insert the information in a frequency table and then they create a dot plot. Page 2 – Students interpret the dot plot by answering 8 questions. Worksheet 2 (2pgs): How Many Minutes to Eat Lunch Page 1 - Students read the data on the frequency table to complete a dot plot. Page 2 - Students answer 9 questions about the dot plot. Answer sheets included. Early finishers/Extra work Project sheet: In their groups, student carry out a small survey on how many siblings each person in their group has. The students complete the ready-made sheet and then create a dot plot. An example sheet is included. Reading comprehension passage and questions relating to the Greensboro sit-in (led by four African American students) which was part of the Civil Rights Movement. It was not the first sit-in protest but the most effective. This product also includes other associated tasks and optional map work and watching video with question sheets to complete. Word Search: To reinforce vocabulary found in the text. Map activity This is optional - North Carolina has already been identified on the map as one of the southern states that passed the Jim Crow laws soon after the Reconstruction period. Students find out which other southern states did the same then color or shade in the areas on the map. Ideal to use in a carousel system - each table has a dedicated activity and the children can move round once they have had a go at an activity. <strong>Content:</strong> Teachers Notes on activities -Whole page colour words surrounded by bubbles -Whole page colour words for children to trace over the dashes Colour word cards - upper case letters Colour word cards - lower case letters Selection of colour pictures with labels Black and white pictures for children to colour in Clipart buttons in a variety of colours Colours : red, brown, blue, orange, black, green, grey, yellow, white, purple and pink. <strong>• Activity 1</strong> – You can direct the children to use any colour media to fill in the colour words and the bubbles – paint, crayons, felt tips, pencils. <strong>• Activity 2</strong> – Children join up the dashes to complete the letters and then colour in the word. They can draw things that are usually that colour. <strong>• Activity 3</strong> – Use IT Paint Palette on computer to create a colourful picture or simply a rainbow.
