This resources relates to numbers 0 to 5 and missing numbers. There is basic addition to 5 for the early years children and for more able up to 9 UPDATED to include worksheets in PDF Format. Aimed at: Early Years/Reception/Year 1 This resource contains two lesson starters on PowerPoint. The numbers are from 0 to 5 on the grid. Learning objectives: Recognise numerals to 5 and count in order; to begin to add two sets of numbers together. Presentation 1 (24 Slides) - Each grid has a missing number and children write down the missing number. This extends to two missing numbers. Presentation 2 (20 Slides) - Each grid has two missing numbers. The children write down the missing numbers and then add the missing numbers together. The total of the numbers range from 1 to 9. 3 activity worksheets - finding missing number, cut/paste activity and adding numbers together to no more than 9. Activity worksheets in b/w Counting activity - Find and Count Minibeasts and colour and b/w There are extra worksheets for early finishers. This resource is on the theme of minibeasts. The teachers notes explain how each set of loop cards are used and how they are different. It is similar to other loop cards or follow me games but counting minibeasts and revising addition and subtraction. A fun way to practise reading numbers and counting and reviewing addition and subtraction through listening and speaking. Student learn to read ‘I have’ and ‘Who has?’ to start the game. The cards can be used in small group sessions or whole class sessions. **Preparation: Laminate, print off and cut round coloured borders onto card paper. ** This resource has now been updated to include 7 sets of loop cards. The borders are different colours so that the sets are not mixed up. Dictation sentences and longer passages. This resource is in line with the National Curriculum objectives on the value of dictation to children. UPDATED TO INCLUDE PDF DOCS Aimed at: Foundation/Keystage 1/2 and suitable for ESL/EFL students. The resource comprises:- PowerPoint Presentation (1) - contains 10 sentences for dictation. PowerPoint Presentation (2) - contains 20 texts for dictation - passages are longer. Ready-made worksheets (x3) Handwriting sheets Audio recording of all the dictation - on the last slide of each Presentation. Clear and comprehensive Teacher’s Notes on suggested use of this resource. The learning objectives are outlined - in short the children to write from memory simple sentences dictated by the teacher that include GPCs and common exception words. This activity gives the student the opportunity to practise their spelling. You can use this resource in focus groups or whole class teaching. The texts are numbered but you do not have to follow the number order. You can pick and choose any text to suit the level of your class or group. As suggested in the teacher’s notes, you print of the text to read aloud or play the audio. After the dictation, the children can correct each other’s work by referring to the text on the PowerPoint Slide, and then copy the corrected piece of writing into their literacy books in their best handwriting. Punctuations dictated are: full stops, commas in a list, question marks and exclamation marks. Speech marks/inverted commas are also used in two of the texts for the higher Keystage students. This resource contains sentences for dictation on PowerPoint. Also well being suitable for Keystage, all the dictated texts can be used in EFL/ESL and ESOL classes. There is also an audio recording of the text. You can play the recording of text 18 or print off the text and read it aloud to the children. After the dictation, outlined in Teacher’s Notes, display the text on PowerPoint for students to self-correct in a different colour pencil. The National Curriculum objectives are outlined in the PowerPoint - in short to write from memory a dictated passage whilst holding the pencil appropriately. Sound and Pitch - e.g. use empty bottles filled with different levels of liquid to produce different pitches and also blow horizontally along the edge to produce sounds similar to wind instruments; and/or experiment with guitar strings –shortening and lengthening the string to produce different sounds; Listening devices - experiment with different string telephones by changing variables such as type of string and material of cups; Blocking Out Sound activities- Children can make ear defenders out of margarine tubs packed with different materials or they can wrap the sound source like a buzzer or alarm clock with different materials to see which is best at muffling the sound. Optional - Musical Instruments - Children can make musical instruments or use the ones they may have made in previous lessons - to adjust how they use it or even make it better - can experiment with various aspects of sound. Outside activity - How sound gets fainter as you travel further away - Use a sound source like a buzzer. The pack consists of: -Sound and how sound travels including sound waves, vibrations, pitch, volume; -The sounds we can make with our voices and what happens; -How we hear; -How some animals hear; -How to get sound from different musical instruments and what happens; and -The type of listening devices we use to locate sound, stethoscopes, hearing aids etc. 19 audio sounds for listening activities (MP3 audio) Lesson 1: This is about how we use our voice and the different sounds we make. There is a diagram of how our voice works which includes vibration, pitch and how we need our teeth and tongue to produce sounds. Activity: students are given a very short text to add vocal sound effects to in their groups - narrator/reader reads the short text (print this off the Slide) and the other students decide on vocal sound effects to add. Lesson 2:- This is about musical instruments and how we produce sound from them (bang, hit, shake, pluck etc.) and group them into their categories (wind, stringed, percussion)- Grouping Activity sheets and Listening activity. Lesson 3 - This is more practical and students plan and design their musical instruments. They are given ideas on what to do, e.g. make a guitar from cereal boxes, the handle is made of kitchen towel tube, strings are various sizes of elastic bands etc. Lesson 4: This is about how we ear (also video youtube link - Children learn about the anatomy of the ear (outer ear, middle ear and inner ear) and how we receive and process sound. They also learn about why we get dizzy (semi-circular canals in our ear is filled with fluid). There are worksheet activities and Listening activities on PowerPoint Presentations. Lesson 5: This lesson is about different listening devices such as the stethoscope, ear trumpets that were used in the past and versions of it that are used to hear unborn babies. Students: make ear trumpets and pot telephones learning how sound travels to the ear via the string attached to the plastic cups. Students test different cups and length of strings. Lesson 6: This lesson is about how some animals move their ears to hear sounds and locate their prey. - Activities: Students work with a partner to complete their worksheets with missing words. Lesson 7: Investigation - Explores sounds get quieter when you are further away from its source - Sounds for Kids All the lessons include information on volume, pitch, vibrations and sound waves.
