This beautifully illustrated, fun and interactive lesson on Native American beliefs is aimed at low ability students. The information slides look at Native American beliefs about the land, circles, clans, moieties, spiritualism and the Spirit World and how they affected the way in which they lived their lives. This outstanding resource is a simple card sort that can be used with a range of abilities from foundation to gifted and talented. It looks at one of the most important turning point in both Irish and British History, the Battle of the Boyne, 1690 whose consequences still echo down to the present day.
The card sort can be used a starter or plenary. It contains two heading cards labelled ‘Causes of the Battle of the Boyne’ and ‘Consequences of the Battle of the Boyne.’ Students are instructed to sort through fourteen cards. I have deliberately included more consequence cards, than causes cards. They are written with a neutral, non judgemental tone allowing students to form their own opinions.

This great little resource gets students to sort through a series of 12 primary and secondary sources about the reign of Queen Mary I 1553 - 1558, with the aim of deciding whether she deserves the reputation of Bloody Mary. Once this has been complete, students can then have a go at answering the question: Does Mary I deserve the title, ‘Bloody Mary’?
I would recommend that this resource should be used with either a core or advanced group as there is a lot of reading, which would be too much for a foundation group with low literacy skills.
This resource makes a great starter or plenary. It can be cut up the students or placed into envelopes for use with several classes or even set as a piece of homework.

This assessment pack includes past paper questions from the Oxford and Cambridge exam board as well as student mark schemes and guides on how to tackle various different types of questions. If you teach another board, the format is very easy to adapt and should just be able to drop in your own level descriptors into the pupil mark schemes.
This works a treat and armed with purple pens you can teach students not only the assessment criteria and how to answer the questions properly, but you can also cut your own marking down and look really good at the same time :-)

This resource is designed to be used as a starter, mini plenary or a plenary for students studying ‘how fair was the treaty of Versailles?’ The Word document contains a pro & con organizer as well as a list of statements which could be cut up and stuck on or even written out onto the organizer. If you are looking for a really quick way to use this resource you could give your students highlighters to pick out the bits of the treaty which were fair / unfair or they could simply write ‘C’ or ‘P’ for pro and con next to it before sticking the sheet into their book.

This lesson is designed to get students to assess how happy each of the peacemakers were with the final treaty and the popular reaction back home. It is also designed to help students understand why Germany felt humiliated. Students are expected to have studied the aims of the peacemakers beforehand along with the main aims of the peacemakers. There are several activities, but the main activity is designed to be used by foundation, core and gifted and talented students. Its aim is to get students assess a series of statements about how happy each of the peacemakers were with the Treaty of Versailles and score them 1 to 10. This can be done individually, in pairs or groups before feedback back to class discussion.

This great little card sort is a matching exercise that can be used as a starter, plenary or even a mini plenary with a range of abilities and age groups.
Students cut out the cards and match the problem facing homesteaders on the Great Plains with the correct description.
Its simple, fun and provides for some kinaesthetic learning. At the end of the activity you can ask your students to rank the problems 1 to 10 and then explain which one was the most important.

This great little resource is designed to get students to understand both how and why the US Government changed its policies towards Native Americans 1830 - 1851, through a card sort activity.
In the first stage, students match the actions of the US Government with their impact or consequences. In the second stage, students then reorganise them into their chronological order, if they haven’t already done so. In the final stage, after they have stuck them into their book, students can then debate, which key event was the turning point in the attitude of the government towards the Native Americans living on the Great Plains.
This activity would make a great starter, as they students could attempt to predict what happened, but it also makes a great plenary that would work with any text book or worksheet on the topic.

This outstanding resource is designed to help students analysing the key reasons why it was difficult to maintain law and order in the American West. It is followed up by a thinking skills review triangle activity to help students decide which factor was the most important. Both activities can be used as a revision exercise, starter or plenary and will work along side any main stream text book or resource on the American West.
The first resource entitled ‘Card Sort - Why was law and order a problem in the West?’, includes five headings under which the students can sort the rest of the cards. These are political, social, economic, geographical, values and attitudes. The rest of the resource then includes 11 cards which can be matched to the headings.
Once the cards have been sorted, the students should then be able to move onto the review triangle activity. This is best done in pairs or groups, with one person from each group feeding back their results onto the IWB and explaining their choice.
The results from the review triangle and the card sort can then be used, along with any of your other classroom resources, as a basis for students writing an essay or extended piece of writing on this topic.

This great little resource is suitable for a wide range of abilities and can easily be adapted to suit any text book or resource on this topic as it is supplied in word.
Students can sort through the cards and organise the events into their correct chronological order. This could be used as a starter exercise to see if they can work out before hand what happened and then used as a mini plenary to check their answers once they have watched a video or read a text book or resource on the Glorious Revolution.
