WAF, RAF, APP, Level Desciptors. I made a couple of slides last year which the students said were really helpful and clear to display whilst they were doing their work. As I'm on GTP next year I decided to make ALL WAF & RAF slides now to save me time during the year. I used it with very high ability students so will differentiate wording for lower ability students soon.

I quickly put together this 'trailer' using images from the 1996 film of Romeo and Juliet and words from the Prologue. The task - students will have to story board their own trailer using the prologue (or if i had access to a computer room create their own trailers)

This is a lesson supporting GCSE students through how to improve their descriptive writing. It contains example answers from AQA typed up to demonstrate to students how and where the marks come from when an examiner marks a paper. Success criteria are included and then a timed writing task at the end.

Was originally a 90minute lesson.

A practice paper Section A for GCSE English Language Paper 2 on Death and Disease. Currently very topical practice paper. I made this in March 2020 - just before UK lockdown and school closure. Source A is an article published in 2020 and Source B is a free resource from University of Oxford: an extract from Thomas Sutherst, Death and Disease Behind the Counter (1884)

This lesson has been observed multiple times, used at interview too, and the resources and lessons have always been fedback as “outstanding” or including “Exceptional Features” in non-graded observations now. Pack includes PPT lesson plan, scaffold to support writing, worksheet (including the cloze starter task). The story cards are from Teachit and I planned the lesson and created the other resources from scratch around the story cards idea. Please comment with feedback,especially if you teach the lesson. It’s a favourite of mine.

This lesson was originally created as a simple cover lesson but can be adapted as part of a bigger War Poetry unit too. Based on the poem The Last Laugh by Wilfred Owen.

1 hour lesson analysing the language used in an Extract from The Hobbit. Uses PETER technique to write an analytical paragraph and the plenary introduces students to media analysis using a film clip from The Hobbit and introduces Mise-en-scene.
