Pupils explore patois within poetry. Pupils are challenged to explore images and create links, examine the use of patois in Rihanna's 'Work', before exploring Linton Kwesi Johnson's poem, Sonny's Lettah independently. All resources included.

A lesson that encourages pupils to create their own quotation revision guide following the EDUQAS/WJEC closed book specifications. There are a variety of quotations taken from the text for quick fire starters.

A creative writing lesson which focuses on encouraging pupils to use a wide range of sentence openers and sentence types in order to address structure. Also included are three different creative writing tasks with differentiated levels of challenge for pupils to choose from. The lesson culminates in a peer-assessment which will help to lessen that marking workload!

A way of preparing lower ability students for an 'Explode the Extract' style question in line with the EDUQAS/WJEC exam board. Pupils will be provided with an A3 timeline that they work on for the duration of the lesson. This will allow them to simultaneously recap on the novella and create a handy revision aid in an independent manner. Worked perfectly for a lower ability year 10 group in the run up to the Christmas holidays and could work equally as well after the break to re-jog memories! Could also be set as homework or revision or work perfectly for a cover lesson.

This lesson is perfect to consolidate pupils' understanding of the text after they have completed their reading of the entire novella. Pupils are challenged to create an open question to ask Scrooge. They then have to answer a selection of questions from Scrooge's perspective at the start and end of the novella. There are examples of responses students should be aiming for further inspiration!

This lesson sets the scene with Oliver Twist being captured for pick pocketing and sent to Newgate prison - the pupils must work in teams to help solve 5 puzzles which lead to them being provided with cryptic clues. Each cryptic clue reveals the next number to the 5 digit code and will eventually release Oliver! Lots of great opportunities for building teamwork, developing speaking and listening and also helping to further inference and deduction skills too. All resources are included!

Two lessons based around chapter two of Jane Eyre and the infamous 'red room'. Lesson one explores the author's use of language and sees pupils develop their vocabulary, explore connotations of words and compose an analytical response. Lesson two focuses upon developing pupils' creative writing skills by setting a number of challenges for pupils to explore within their writing. Both lessons also make use of peer-assessment to help ease that marking workload! All resources included!

Analysis of all 18 poems from the WJEC poetry anthology. All AOs covered (content, language and structure and context) for each poem. Not all analysis is my own! I have put this onto Show My Homework for all my pupils to help with their revision. This has proven particularly helpful for pupils who may have been absent or are lacking confidence with some of the poems from the selection.

This session was delivered over a three hour period to prospective year 6 students along with high ability year 7 students. This allowed new pupils to engage with their older peers and get an understanding of life at high school in a fun and interactive way. Pupils are introduced to one another through some simple but effective ice-breaker tasks before exploring a myth or legend from a specific culture allowing excellent links to SMSC to be made. Pupils then work together to delve into language and higher level vocabulary before creating their very own myth or legend. The resources and accompanying workbook are included! This could easily be broken down into 3/4 lessons to be delivered in the classroom and may prove an excellent starting point for pupils who are engaging with a myths and legends scheme.

A mini scheme of work focussing on some creative writing and EDUQAS fiction reading style questions of gothic texts. These lessons helped my low ability year 9 class access the texts and make informed inferences about them.

Group of four action packed lessons, which could easily be extended, based around all things Gothic! Including lots of opportunities to explore infamous Gothic texts including; Frankenstein, Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde, The Raven and Dracula. This mini-scheme intends to introduce pupils to the literary conventions of Gothic texts, develop their language analysis skills and also challenge their creative writing abilities. A selection of ten lessons for the opening chapters of Lord of the Flies. This has been designed with my low ability year 10s in mind and as a result is quite structured, providing lots of opportunities to discuss and see example/scaffolded material. The lessons provide higher level vocabulary to develop pupils confidence, a mix of individual, paired and group work along with some artistic opportunities to explore the first four chapters of the novel. A perfect follow on from the Macbeth introduction mini-scheme! These lessons see pupils begin to explore the text of Shakespeare's Macbeth in an independent manner through the use of board-games and Who Wants to be a Millionaire tasks. Also included are creative writing tasks to suit a wide range of abilities with various degrees of challenge included. In addition to this, well chosen extracts and guides to creating higher level PEEZL paragraphs are also explored. All resources included.
