This assembly highlights this year’s theme of Anxiety, how it can affect anyone and everyone, but also looking at supporting and understanding those whose circumstances mean they are more vulnerable to feelings of anxiety. It looks at how you can cope with anxiety and where to seek help if you have ongoing problems with anxiety.
It will also be part of a bundle with other resources looking at situations where stress and anxiety are more prevalent, such as when facing disappointment, or in the face of exams, and areas of our lives we can work on to help improve our mental health, such as sleep, friendship and acts of kindness.
This lesson is designed with International Day of Families in mind, but raises questions and includes discussion points which would fit any discussion of families, so is easily adapted to fit with PHSE/RSE/Lifeskills topics. The Teaching Notes include a link to duplicate a preliminary quiz on Forms to get students thinking about some of the issues to be discussed. The presentaiton includes links to optional videos, with timings so you can decide which to include (or use later for a follow-up). The plenary allows you to review what has been discussed. The final slide includes links to further reading.
This revisits material students have probably seen at school, but considers the scenarios of starting university and leaving home. It includes advice on spiking and dealing with being offered drugs. There is also a worksheet to think about the different classes of drugs and the presentation looks at what this can mean in terms of possession, production and distribution.

Students will be thinking about going off to uni/apprenticeships and this presentation discusses big and little issues they may encounter and how to deal with them. It approaches the idea of preparing for challenges and thinking about how to cope, while also exploring the fact that it is natural to have different reactions and that seeking help is a strength. In the fast paced world qualities such as kindness can be overlooked, but research indicates that showing and receiving kindness support a lift in mood, making us feel happier and reducing anxiety. This presentation looks at the research and the benefits of being kind, what you can do, what the obstacles may be and the positive impact of volunteering. Sixth form brings many new experiences, including turning 17 and learning to drive. This presentation underlines the dangers for young drivers, highlights particular risky behaviours and reminds about legal responsibilities. There are opportunities for discussion, links to further reading and to optional videos. It would work as a stand-alone session, but would also support revisiting content from a presentation from an emergency service.
