I am a secondary school & A-level Science teacher, specialising in Biology. I am also an experienced AQA GCSE Biology Examiner. My resources contain a mix of Biology, Chemistry and Physics lessons aimed at meeting specification points for the new AQA Trilogy GCSE course and KS3 Activate course. All of my lessons include at least one opportunity for self-assessment, a range of activities to suit students of all abilities, a set of differentiated starter questions and a plenary.

This lesson is designed for the Activate KS3 Science Course, specifically Year 7 C3 ’Reactions’ module. This lesson begins with an introduction to chemical reactions, students will read a paragraph of information on chemical reactions. Using the information students will answer a set of questions, this task can then be self-assessed using the mark scheme provided once complete. Students will now watch a video about chemical reactions, they will need to write down as many things you might see/hear/feel during a chemical reaction. This work can the be self-assessed using the mark scheme provided on the PowerPoint presentation. Students will now summarise what they have learned so far by completing a ‘fill-in-the-blank’ task, this work can also be marked and corrected using the anwers provided Students will now consider whether chemical reactions are useful or now, they will be given a list of different chemical reactions and they will need to sort these into two columns - useful or not useful. Students can then self-assess this task when it is complete. Next, students will watch a video on the differences between chemical and physical changes. Whilst watching the video students will need to answer a set of questions, this work can self-assessed using the mark scheme provided. The last task requires students to determine whether a set of examples are demonstrating a chemical or a physical change. They could complete this task as a class, using mini whiteboards. The plenary task requires students to write three sentences to summarise what they have learned this lesson. All resources are included at the end of the presentation. This lesson is designed for the KS3 Year 8 Science course, specifically the B2 1.3 unit on Adaptation & Inheritance. The lesson begins with an introduction to variation and what it means to belong to a species. Students will then be shown images of four different people and will be asked to note down the ways in which the people are different from one another and why. This will lead into the next PowerPoint slide which shows images of characteristics which are inherited - lobed/lobeless ears, eye colour, natural hair colour. Students can make a note of these in their books as examples. Next, students will be shown images of characteristics which could be due to the environment - weight, tattoos/scars, piercings, strength. Students will now focus on inherited variation, they will be asked to think about their own characteristics and then compare this to a family member - parents/grandparent. Students should then complete a mind map of the characteristics they have inherited from different people, e.g. I have inherited my eye colour from my Dad. If complete, there is an ‘extra challenge’ question for students to consider why they are not identical to either one of their parents. Next, students will be shown examples of environmental factors which lead to certain types of environmental variation. For example, where you grow up and the football team you support. Students will then need to complete a task which requires students to match the correct environmental factor with the correct type of environmental variation. This task can then be marked and assessed using the mark scheme provided once complete. The last task requires students to consider a world in which there is no variation, where everyone looked the same as one another. Students will then need to describe the advantages and disadvantages of this world and explain whether it would be a world they would like to live in. The plenary task requires students to spend a minute talking the person next to them about what they have learned this lesson. All resources are included at the end of the presentation. This lesson is designed for the KS3 Year 8 Science course, specifically the C2 1.1 unit on ‘The Periodic Table’ For more lessons designed for KS3 and KS4 please visit my shop at: https://www.tes.com/teaching-resources/shop/SWiftScience. The lesson starts off with an introduction to the Periodic Table and Dmitri Mendeleev, this then follows into a video which students will watch and will also answer questions on a worksheet. Once this task has been completed, students can self-assess their answers using the mark scheme provided. Next, students are introduced to the idea of groups and periods of the Periodic Table. Students can take notes on the definition of these two terms, before leading into a task whereby students will be given some data on the melting points and boiling points of Group 1 metals. Using this data students will be asked to answer a set of questions, this work can then be marked and assessed using the mark scheme provided. The next task focuses on periods of the Periodic Table, students will need to use the data provided in the PowerPoint presentation to answer a set of questions on the pattern of melting points across Period 2 and Period 3. This task can then be self-assessed using the mark scheme provided. The last task is a copy and correct task, students will need to copy the paragraph out into their books, correcting any mistakes. This work can the be marked and assessed using the mark scheme provided in the PowerPoint. The plenary task requires students to write down three quiz questions to test their peers knowledge of what they have learned this lesson. All resources are included at the end of the presentation. This lesson is designed for the Activate KS3 Science Course, specifically Year 7 C1.2 ’Elements, Atoms & Compounds’. Students are firstly asked to complete a worksheet which is a recap on what they have learned prior to this lesson on the differences between elements, compounds and mixtures. Once this task is complete students can self-assess their work using the mark scheme provided. Next, students are introduced to some of the basic concepts of naming compounds. Students are shown a particle diagram of a carbon monoxide molecule and a carbon dioxide molecule and are asked to ‘Think > Pair > Share’ their ideas about which is which. The answer is then revealed and students are shown that molecules with an atom of one element alongside an oxygen atom are called ‘oxides’, those with one oxygen atom are called monoxides and those with two oxygen atoms are dioxides. Students are now given a table with some information missing out of it, students will need to identify either the name of a compound or the elements that are found within a named compound. Once complete, the task can self-assessed using the mark scheme provided in the PowerPoint presentation. The next part of the lesson focuses on chemical formulae, students are shown what the chemical formula of a substance tells us about that compound, in terms of the relative number of atoms of each element found in that compound. Students will then need to complete a worksheet to assess their knowledge of what they have learned so far this lesson, first part requires students to name the elements found in a set of compounds given the name or the chemical formula. Second task requires students to identify the number of atoms of each elements in a set of compounds. Once this task has been completed, students can self-assess their work using the mark scheme provided. The plenary requires students to write a five minute account of what they have learned this lesson, including what they know now and what they would like to spend more time on. This lesson is designed for the Activate KS3 Science Course, specifically Year 7 P2 ’Sound’. This lesson begins with a definition of ‘Friction’, students can take notes on this and then ‘Think > Pair > Share’ their ideas about how friction can be reduced. Two ideas that are then revealed are lubrication using oil/grease or smoothing surfaces down in order to reduce friction. Students will then need to complete worksheet on frictional forces, once students have completed this task they can either self-assess or peer-assess their work using the mark scheme provided. Next, students are introduced to the idea of a ‘drag force’, including the examples of air resistance and water resistance. Students will then need to create a mind map listing the ways in which the effect of drag forces could be reduced. Once students have discussed and noted their ideas down, their answers can be checked using the answers provided on the PowerPoint. In the last activity students will be given a set of statements, they will need to sort these statements into either either a ‘True’ or ‘False’ column. Students can then self-assess or peer-assess their work using the mark scheme provided. The plenary task is a ‘Pick a Plenary’ - so students can either summarise what they have learned in three sentences, or write a definition for a list of key words that students would have learned over the course of the ‘Forces’ topic so far. This lesson is designed for the KS3 Year 8 Science course, specifically the P2 1.1 unit on ‘Electricity & Magnetism’. The lesson begins with an introduction to resistance, students are provided with a definition which they can write down in their books, as well as a diagram to depict what happens to electrons as they flow around the metal wires within a circuit. Students will then complete a ‘copy-and-complete’ task, this can be marked using the mark scheme provided. Students are now asked to ‘Think > Pair > Share’ their ideas about whether the thickness of the wire would affect the resistance of the wire. Students will discuss their ideas with their peers, share their ideas with the class and then watch a video to find out the answer. Students can then summarise their findings in their books by completing a fill-in-the-blank task, this can then be self-assessed once complete. Students will now be introduced to Ohm’s law, which links the resistance of a component to the current running through it and potential difference across it. Students will be given an equation triangle, they can copy this down into their books and use this to complete the set of problems on the next slide. This work can be marked and corrected once complete. Lastly, students are asked to ‘Think > Pair > Share’ their ideas about which materials are good conductors and insulators. Students can discuss their ideas and write them down into their books, answers are then revealed for students to check their work against. The last assessment task is a ‘Copy and correct’ task, students are given a paragraph of information which they will need to copy and correct the mistakes as they go. Once complete, this can be marked using the mark scheme provided. The plenary task is a choice of two tasks - to summarise what students have learned in three sentences or to write a definition for a set of key words. This lesson is designed for the Activate KS3 Science Course, specifically Year 7 P1 ’Forces’. This lesson starts with a recap on the differences between contact and non-contact forces. Students are given a list of forces and a variety of pictures, they need to match the correct name of the force with the correct picture and decide whether this is a contact or non-contact force. This task can self-assessed using the mark scheme provided. Students are now introduced to the concept of a ‘reaction force’, with examples of a ball hitting the floor and a person walking along the ground. Students are shown a particle diagram to demonstrate what is happening. Next, students are introduced to the idea of an elastic cord or spring being affected by ‘extension’ and ‘tension’ forces. To assess students knowledge of what they have learned so far they will complete a progress check, a set of questions which students can answer in their books. This task can then be self-assessed using the mark scheme provided. The last part of the lesson will look at Hooke’s law, students will conduct an investigation where they will investigate Hooke’s law. This practical involves students adding 1 Newton weights to a hanger which is attached to an elastic band. Every time a new weight is added, the distance between two marked point on the elastic band is measured. Students should carry out the investigation, record their results in a the table and then plot a graph of their results. Hopefully, students will draw a linear graph and be able to identify what Hooke’s law is from their results. Students can check their work against the results provided in the PowerPoint. Finally, students are asked to complete a ‘Sentence Link-Up’ task, this is a literacy task which requires students to link three words in a summary sentence. This work can be self-assessed once it is complete using the answers provided on the PowerPoint. The plenary requires students to write three quiz questions to test their knowledge of what they have learned this lesson. All resources are included at the end of the presentation. This lesson is designed for the Activate KS3 Science Course, specifically Year 7 P1 ’Forces’. This lesson begins with ‘Think > Pair > Share’ activity which asks students to look at a photo of a tug-of-war and asks students to decide which side would win and why. After a short discussion, students will be introduced to the idea of ‘balanced’ and ‘unbalanced’ forces, including examples. Students will now complete an investigation on ‘Forces’, this is a circus activity which requires students to decide which two forces are acting on each of the objects. Students will also need to decide if the forces are balanced or unbalanced, their results can be recorded in the table provided. Students will be asked a series of questions on the effects of balanced and unbalanced forces acting upon an object, the first questions is on a cyclist. This work can then be self-assessed using the mark scheme provided. The next questions are on the forces acting upon a car, this can be competed in their books and the work can be marked and corrected using the mark scheme provided. The last part of the lesson focuses on how forces can change the direction of an object, students are shown the example of the Moon orbiting the Earth due to the pull of gravitational force acting upon the Moon. The plenary task requires students to write down three facts, three key words and pose one question to test their peers knowledge of what they have learned this lesson. This lesson is designed for the KS3 Year 8 Science course, specifically the B2 1.1 Health & Lifestyle. This lesson begins with some facts and figures about the rates of smoking around the world, how many cigarettes are smoked daily and the different chemicals found in cigarette smoke and which of these are linked with disease. Students will now watch a video on the chemicals found in cigarette smoke and the damage these chemicals can do to the body, whilst watching the video students will need to answer a couple of questions. The answers to these questions are then revealed using the PowerPoint, students can self-assess their work. Students will now watch another video on smoking and the effect on your health, students will be given a set of questions that they will need to answer using the video. Once this task is complete, students will self-assess their work using the mark scheme provided. The latter part of the lesson involves an activity whereby students will be given a worksheet of questions, there will be information posters placed around the room which students will need to use to answer questions on their worksheet. The mark scheme for this task is included in the PowerPoint presentation for students to peer-assess their work with their partners. Students will then need to complete a ‘feedback quadrant’ of their partners work, this includes a positive comment, something they missed out which should have included and a question to test their understanding of the lesson content. The very last task requires students to read a graph of information on the death rates due to different smoking-related illnesses. Students should answer the set of questions using the data, this task can then be self-assessed using the mark scheme provided. This lesson is designed for the Activate KS3 Science Course, specifically Year 7 C3 ’Reactions’. This lesson begins with a recap on the differences between elements, compounds and mixtures. Students will be given a set of diagrams and will need to decide which is which, they could write their answers down in their books or use mini white boards and complete as a class. The answers can then be revealed using the mark scheme provided and students can check their answers. Students are then given an explanation of what happens to substances during a chemical reaction, atoms rearrange and new bonds form new substances with different properties. The example of iron sulphide is used, a demonstration could also be carried out to show that iron (in a mixture of iron and sulphur) is magnetic before it is heated. Once iron and sulphur are heated to form iron sulphide, the magnetic properties are now lost. Students are now shown the basis of a word equation and the difference between reactants and products. They will then be given two word equations and will need to determine which are the reactants and which are the products, the answers will then be revealed. They will then be given four more reactions, students will need to identify the reactants and products of these reactions. Students can then self-assess their work using the mark scheme provided. Students will now try writing their own word equations using a description provided, students will need to complete a worksheet of these tasks. The answers to these questions are included in the PowerPoint for students to self-assess their work. Lastly, students will complete an investigation to observe what happens during three chemical reactions. Students will be given the practical worksheet, they can complete the investigation as a group and note down their observations from the reactions. Once the investigation is complete, students will then need to match the reactants from the reactions they carried out with the correct products. This work can then be marked and corrected using the answers provided. The plenary task requires students to write a twitter message summarising what they have learned today, students should #keywords! All resources are included at the end of the presentation. This lesson is designed for the KS3 Year 8 Science course, specifically the B2 1.1 Health & Lifestyle. The lesson begins with a question for students to ‘Think, Pair & Share’ with the class - ‘What do you think the most used drug in the world it?’ After a short class discussion, the answer will then be revealed as coffee! Students are now introduced to definition for drug, as well as explaining the difference between medicinal and recreational drugs. This then follows into a task whereby students should complete a mind map of reasons why people might want to take drugs. Their answers can be checked against the mark scheme which is provided on the PowerPoint. On the next slide students are provided with a more comprehensive explanation of the differences between medicinal and recreational drugs. The next task will then require students to sort a list of drugs into two columns - medicinal vs. recreational. This task can then be self-assessed using the mark scheme provided on the PowerPoint. Next, students are provided with some information about the differences between addiction and dependency. Students should answer a set of questions using this information, once complete this task can then be self-assessed using the mark scheme provided. Lastly, students will look into the use of performance-enhancing drugs in sport. Students will each be given a statement which is a viewpoint on the use of such drugs in sporting events. A class debate could the be organised for people to relay their viewpoints, whilst this is occurring students can write down arguments for and against drugs in sport within a summary table. The plenary task requires students to complete an exit card which included three things learned this lesson, five key words and one question to test their peers on what they have learned this lesson. This lesson is designed for the Activate KS3 Science Course, specifically Year 7 B1.2 Module on ‘Structure & Function of Body Systems’ For more lessons designed for KS3 and KS4 please visit my shop at: https://www.tes.com/teaching-resources/shop/SWiftScience. Students are firstly given the definition of a joint and are then asked to move around a bit, either in their seats or around the room, and whilst moving they should think about their joints - whether they are all the same, if they move in the same way or not. This leads into an introduction to three types of joint that they need to learn about - ball-and-socket joint, hinge joint and fixed joint. The next part of the lesson will focus on the tissues which comprise a joint - namely tendons, ligaments and cartilage. Students will be given information sheets, either on their table or placed around the room. Using this information they will need to complete a summary table of the three tissues - the location of the tissue (what it is connected to), a description of the tissue and it’s role in the joint. Once students have completed this task they can self-assess their work using the mark scheme provided. Next, students will conduct an investigation into muscle strength. Students will work in pairs, following the method provided on the PowerPoint to measure the strength of their triceps, biceps and forearm using a Newton Scale. Their results should be recorded in a suitable table. Lastly, students are given a worksheet to summarise what they have learned on this topic so far. They will need to complete the sentences with the correct key word, this word can then be found within the word search. The mark scheme for this task is also included so students can mark and correct their work. The plenary provides two choices for students, either unscramble the anagrams of key words from the lesson or using the key word selection provided, write a summary of what was learned this lesson. his lesson is designed for the Activate KS3 Science Course, specifically Year 7 C1.1 ’Particles & their Behaviour’ For more lessons designed for KS3 and KS4 please visit my shop at: https://www.tes.com/teaching-resources/shop/SWiftScience. This lesson starts with the collapsing can demonstration, students are asked to watch the demonstration (either completed by the class teacher or use the video included) and come with with an explanation of what is happening. This activity leads onto a definition for gas pressure, students are given the definition which is explained using the diagram included. Students can take notes of this process in their books, drawing the diagram would also be helpful. Students are now asked to consider whether the factors which may lead to an increase in pressure, students will need to discuss with their partner and come up with some ideas. This leads onto the next PowerPoint slide which outlines three factors - an increase in the number of particles, an increase in temperature or a decrease in the size of the container. All would lead to an increase in the frequency of collisions the particles have with the sides of the container. Students will now complete a worksheet to assess their knowledge of what they have learned so far this lesson. This work can be self-assessed using the mark scheme provided. Next, students are asked to ‘Think > Pair > Share’ their ideas of why an increase in temperature leads to an increase in pressure. Students should try to explain their answer using the particle. model, students can discuss in pairs before writing their thoughts down and then feeding back to the class as group discussion. The answer to this task can then be revealed, students can check and correct their work. Lastly, students will complete a ‘Teach me, tell me’ task - students will be given a Q&A card, as well as a worksheet of questions. They will need to share the answer to their question with other students in the classroom in order to complete the worksheet of questions on gases & pressure. The plenary task requires students to write a Whatsapp message on what they have learned this lesson. All resources are included at the end of the presentation. This lesson is designed for the Activate KS3 Science Course, specifically Year 7 P4 ’Space’. This lesson begins with an introduction to the idea of the Earth spinning on it’s axis, which gives us day and night. This is demonstrated to students using a diagram, they can take notes on this and also draw a sketch of the Earth spinning on it’s axis. Students will then watch a video on Earth and the way that it moves to give day/night and the different seasons. Students will answer a set of questions whilst they are watching the video, once complete the task can then self-assessed using the mark scheme provided. Next, students are shown a diagram which demonstrates the reason why in the summer the UK is hotter and longer days, whereas in the winter the UK is older and has shorter days. Again, students could take notes on this and sketch a diagram in their books to demonstrate this process. The next activity requires students to use an array of resources - beach ball, balloon, torch, marker pen - to demonstrate the orbit of the Earth around the Sun to explain why we have seasons. Students will now complete a worksheet which will assess their knowledge of what they have learned so far this lesson. The mark scheme for this task is included in the PowerPoint so students cans self-assess their work once it is complete. The last activity is a summary task, students should copy and complete the sentences to summarise what they have learned so far this lesson. The work can be self or peer assessed using the mark scheme provided once this students have completed it. This lesson is designed for the Activate KS3 Science Course, specifically Year 7 B1.2 Module on ‘Structure & Function of Body Systems’ For more lessons designed for KS3 and KS4 please visit my shop at: https://www.tes.com/teaching-resources/shop/SWiftScience. The lesson begins with an activity whereby students are asked to sit quietly for a few minutes and think about what is happening to their bodies when they breathe in and out. Hopefully students recognise that their chest rises up as muscles contract and relax. This then leads to a video, students should watch the video and whilst watching they will need to complete a fill-in-the-blank task which summarises what is happening inside the lungs during inhalation and exahalation. The answers to this task are included in the PowerPoint so students can self-assess their work once it is complete. Next, students will be given a cartoon strip demonstrating the stages of both inhalation and exhalation, with some information missing. Higher ability students will be given a cartoon strip where they need to create captions for each diagram, lower/middle ability students will be required to fill in the blanks for each caption. The mark scheme for this task is included in the PowerPoint so students can self-assess their work once it is complete. Next, the bell jar model is introduced which demonstrates what happens to the lungs during inhalation and exhalation. The teacher can conduct a demonstration using the bell jar model, students will need to come up with an explanation for what is happening when the teacher either pulls down on the rubber sheet or pushed upwards on the rubber sheet. Students can check their responses to this task using the answers included in the PowerPoint presentation. The last slide shows students the practical apparatus that can be used to measure total lung volume in the lab, students can have a go at using this apparatus if there is time at the end of the lesson. The plenary is a word search activity, students will need to find a list of words which are related to the breathing and gas exchange lessons. The lesson begins with a recap of the key terms learned over the last few lessons on the topics of the skeleton and joints, students need to match the structure to the correct function. This work can then be self-assessed using the answers provided. Next, students will need to discuss the body muscle groups they already know of with their partner and then create a mind map of their ideas in their books. Students can then check their work against the answers revealed on the PowerPoint. The next activity requires students to correctly label the diagram of the human body with the muscle groups and then identify the function of each muscle group from a list provided. The mark scheme for this task is included for students to mark and correct their work. The next part of the lesson focuses on the antagonistic pairs of muscle. Students are shown a diagram of how biceps and triceps work together to either move the forearm upwards to downwards. After viewing the diagram and the explanation, students are asked to complete a fill-in-the-blank task to summarise this process. Their answers can be self-assessed using the PowerPoint presentation. Lastly, students will complete a progress check in their books - this is a set of questions based upon what they have learned this lesson. This task can be self or peer assessed using the mark scheme provided. The plenary task requires students to write three quiz questions to test their peers on what they have learned this lesson. This lesson is designed for the KS3 Year 8 Science course, specifically the B2 1.1 Health & Lifestyle. The lesson begins with an introduction into the role of bacteria in digestion. This then follows into a video on digestion, students should watch the video and whilst watching they will answer a set of questions. Once this task has been completed students can self-assess their work using the mark scheme provided. Students will now be introduced to the idea of ‘enzymes’ - molecular scissors which break down larger molecules into smaller, soluble molecules which can then be absorbed by the small intestine. This idea is demonstrated with a diagram, students can take notes on this in their books - including a sketch of the enzymes at work. For the next activity, students will each be given a different bit of information on a specific type of enzyme - lipase, carbohydrase and protease. Students will then need to share information, as they walk around the classroom, in order to complete questions and a summary table on their own worksheet. Once this task has been completed, students will then use the mark scheme provided on the PowerPoint to peer-assess their work. The final activity is an exam-style question, to assess students knowledge of what they have learned so far this lesson. Students can mark their work using the mark scheme provided. The plenary task requires students to write a twitter message about what they have learned this lesson, including #keywords. All resources are included at the end of the presentation. This lesson is designed for the KS3 Year 8 Science course, specifically the C2 1.1 unit on ‘The Periodic Table’. This lesson begins with an introduction to the elements found within Group 1 of the Periodic Table - The Alkali Metals. Students will also learn some of the properties of the Alkali Metals which make them similar to other metals. Students will now focus on the reaction of alkali metals with water, students will learn what happens with lithium is placed in water - including the word equation for this reactions. After learning this, students will then need to copy and complete the word equations of other alkali metal reactions with water. This task can then self-assessed using the mark scheme provided. Students will now draw a table in their books before watching a video on the different reactions of Group 1 metals with water. Students will need to note down observations whilst watching the video. After completing this task, students are asked to ‘Think > Pair > Share’ their ideas about how they think rubidium and caesium will react with water. After this task, students can assess their work and also watch a another video to find out if their predictions about rubidium and caesium were correct. The next activity requires students to read a paragraph of information about the alkali metals, students will then need to answer a set of questions using this information. Once complete students can self-assess their work using the answers provided on the PowerPoint. The last activity is a ‘True or False’ activity, students will need to decide whether the statements are correct or not. The answers are provided for this task so students can check their work. The plenary activity requires students to write down three facts, three key words and one question to test their peers on what they have learned this lesson. This lesson is designed for the KS3 Year 8 Science course, specifically the P2 1.2 unit on ‘Energy’. More Biology, Chemistry and Physics resources can be found in my TES Shop: https://www.tes.com/teaching-resources/shop/SWiftScience This lesson starts with a task whereby students will watch a video on infrared radiation, they will need to try to come up with a definition for infrared radiation whilst watching. The answers that students come up with can then be marked and corrected using the answer provided. Students will then be shown a diagram of a Leslie’s cube, and are told that different surfaces emit different amounts of infrared radiation. Students will then be asked to make a prediction about the surface they think (out of a choice of surfaces) will emit the most radiation. Students will then complete an investigation into the amount of infrared radiation given off by different coloured tins - black or silver. Once complete, students can use the data they have collected to draw a graph of their results and complete the analysis questions. Students will then be given examples of how infrared radiation can be absorbed and reflected and why these two processes are useful. Following on from this, students will complete a ‘fill-in-the-blank’ task to summarise what they have learned this lesson, this task can be self-assessed using the mark scheme provided. The plenary task is a ‘pick a plenary’ task, students are asked to either summarise what they have learned in three sentences or write a definition for a list of key words provided. This lesson is designed for the Activate KS3 Science Course, specifically Year 7 P4 ’Space’. This lesson begins with an introduction to the phases of the Moon, students are shown a diagram which show the changing appearance of the Moon as seen by Earth as the Moon orbits the Earth. The next task is a memory test, students will be shown images of the different phases of the Moon along with the names of these specific phases. Students will need to memorise the as many names as possible, before the names are taken away. Students will now have a few minutes to fill in their worksheet with the correct names, this task can then be self-assessed using the mark scheme provided. Next, students will complete a worksheet which requires them to shade in circles to show the phases of the Moon at particular positions. There is an extra challenge task to add labels to show the names for each phase. The mark scheme for this task is included in the PowerPoint so students can mark and correct their work. Next, students will watch a video on eclipses. Whilst watching the video they will answer a set of questions, once complete students can self-assess their work using the mark scheme provided. Laslty, students will complete a ‘copy-and-complete’ task to summarise what they have learned this lesson. This work can also be marked using the answers provided on the PowerPoint. The plenary task is a ‘pick a plenary’ - either unscramble a set of anagrams to spell five key words taken from the lesson today or use a set of key words (provided) to summarise what students have learned this lesson.
