Includes game of SPLAT, whiteboard activity to consolidate DER, DIE, DAS, activity to explain EINEN, EINE and EIN, gap fill activity and written task as plenary. Lesson aimed at top set Y10 but can easily be adapted. Lesson looking at different accommodation types and using the preterite and imperfect tenses together. Potential for at least 2 lessons worth of content. C easily build in more whole class questioning, whiteboard recall and retrieval practice. Prior learning: preterite tense formation; imperfect tense formation; holiday vocabulary (countries, transport, activities). Pupils had already written an extended description of a past holiday (90 words) which they go back to this lesson and improve with a more detailed description of accomodation. Starter: Gap fill - preterite tense text about a past holiday with key verbs removed. Pupils have to fill in the missing verbs then find the two mistakes - 2 of the verbs should be in the imperfect.
