El Camino de Santiago
PPT presentation with listening guide that gives background into Spain's famous Camino de Santiago de Compostela. St. James Way. This presentation is completely in Spanish yet very comprehensible. Imperfect Subjunctive Powerpoint
This is the Powerpoint I use to teach my students the Imperfect Subjunctive. This Powerpoint assumes that they have already learned the Present Subjunctive. I use WEDDING for my Subjunctive triggers. Since this is a Powerpoint file it could be easily modified for the WEIRDOs out there. (a little Spanish teacher joke) :) There are 14 slides with 3 interactive ¡Practiquemos! slides to allow students to check their comprehension.
Don Quijote (Quixote) Intro Powerpoint
This is the Powerpoint I use to introduce students to Quijote and Cervantes before we read the Teacher's Discovery graphic novel. This multimedia powerpoint is almost entirely in Spanish but with vocabulary helps to make it comprehensible for Spanish 3's.
The Spanish Royal Family - La Familia Real de España
When you are presenting family vocabulary words, why not use a culturally authentic example? This Powerpoint uses the Spanish royal family tree to introduce words like padre, madre, hijo, etc.
UPDATED to reflect the abdication of Juan Carlos.
Las Posadas
Great presentation for Navidad. Multimedia PPT presentation explaining the tradition of Las Posadas in Mexico. Also discussed are the festivals of similar origin "Novena de Aguinaldos" and "La Parranda." The slides are all in Spanish but at a very comprehensible level. Día De Acción de Gracias Lotería, Thanksgiving Bingo
This has become a fun tradition in my Spanish classes. The day before Thanksgiving break we always play "Lotería" with Thanksgiving vocab. Included is the 24 space board (1 space "gratis") and a vocabulary list of 42 words. I am including a Word and PDF of the list in case you would like to modify it. I have also included a detailed instruction sheet with some tips that I have learned over the years to help the game go better.
Por vs. Para Graphic
I developed this graphic to help my students conceptualize Por vs. Para. This graphic illustrates the transient nature of Por while showing Para as more of an end point.
On page 2 I have written color coded sentences that illustrate the explanations on the graphic. The sentences are exactly alike except for the word Por or Para. There is also an explanation of what is being said in parentheses.
"Si El Norte Fuera El Sur," Immigration, Imperfect Subjunctive
This is an activity that I developed for my Spanish 4 students. In our Unit on Immigration, we also work with the Imperfect Subjunctive. I teach that first, then introduce this. Later students will use the Imperfect Subjunctive to put themselves in the shoes of immigrants.
This Word Doc has key vocabulary and terms front loaded. There are also questions that promote higher order thinking. Also included are the song lyrics, a link to a Youtube version, and discussion questions at the end.
*Warning. The lyrics reference drugs, alcohol, topless bars, Lorena Bobbitt, and has the word "ramera." I recommend you look at the lyrics online before buying. I avoid the first verse and most of the chorus (where all of these are contained) and focus on the second verse. Also, the official video has a child urinating in a bucket and you can see his exposed buttocks. The video link I have included shows the album cover throughout the song.
Los Reyes Magos - Three Kings Day Presentation
Teach your students about how Spanish speaking countries celebrate Epiphany (Día de los Reyes Magos) with this authentic resource. Contains a powerpoint presentation of Nicaraguan Poet, Rubén Darío's poem "Los Reyes Magos," with background information on the author and holiday, and a listening guide (in .doc and .pdf format) with directions for students to write their own letter to the Reyes at the end.
WARNING: Because of the holiday, the poem has Christian elements in it. I recommend that you read the poem before buying. Just Google "Rubén Darío Los Reyes Magos."

The 3 Moods of Spanish (intro to the Subjunctive)

El Alamo Introduction Powerpoint
This is a Powerpoint, completely in Spanish, that I use to introduce the events of the Texas Revolution. Could be used as an intro to TPRS novel Rebeldes de Tejas, although, for copyright reasons, it makes no reference to the book, just the historical events.
Also included is a 1 page student guide with an answer key that students can use to write the vocabulary and create a timeline to visualize the events from Mexico's independence to the Treaty of Velasco.
Un Restaurante Latino Extra Credit
The form that I use for students who would like to get extra credit by going to an authentic Latin Restaurant (i.e. Mexican, Salvadoran, Ecuadorian, etc) and putting their Spanish to use in an authentic, outside of class, context.
This Doc has my specific information but it is very simple to modify to meet your needs.
Semana Santa Videogame Authentic Text Activity
This authentic text from April 7th, 2014 talks about the release of a new game based on Semana Santa en Seville, Spain. The runner style game has the traditional "nazareno" in pointed hood and cape running through the streets of Seville to get to his processional on time.
There is so much good vocabulary in this 3 paragraph, high interest, authentic text. Who knows, you may even have a student download and play the game.
Included is the original text and a teacher's guide.
