Paddington- character inference

This is a tried and tested lesson using the theme of Paddington. With the release of Paddington in Peru this is sure to go down well with the children in your class. This is an adaptable Power Point based on inferring the feelings of Paddington when he arrives in London. The main task is geared towards a story or diary entry, but could be adapted to be a letter, newspaper article or poem. The content as it is can easily be adapted for any age between years two, three and four by altering the grammatical expectations required (e.g. adjectives, adverbs and alliteration). There is a blank story starter, as well as a colour coded version linked to the grammatical expectations. Again, these can be easily altered to suit your curriculum needs. There is a link to the original Paddington video on YouTube as well as images to engage wider thinking. Images of Paddington Bear are either drawn or photographed by myself. All links included were correct at time of creation; I can’t take responsibility for the content of these so please check them carefully before using in a classroom.

This resource has a range of information about Remembrance Day, with 10 questions to answer based on this text. There are then two lined pages for children to answer the questions. There is also a poppy wreath on the last page where children could draw their own poppy in or even create a poem based on the information they have learnt from the comprehension.

Remembrance day posters

Four posters made from photographs taken of the poppy display at the Tower of London. These could be used as part of a Remembrance Day display or assembly, or as writing prompts for poetry, stories or news articles. I will be donating 20% of all sales of these posters to the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal. Thank you.

Y1 and Y2 The Man on the Moon- a week of lessons

This pack contains a brief lesson plan of five lessons, culminating in children creating their own story based on The Man on the Moon by Simon Bartram. This unit was made for a year two class. They were fully engaged in this and loved making their own stories. They made them into small books and we ‘published’ them and put them in the school library for other children to borrow. Due to the flexibility of story writing, this has potential to be a two week unit. The resources (worksheets) included are: Prediction, mind map, conversation planner, inference prompts, questions to ask Bob and a story planner. It works best if you have a copy of the story so that the children have exposure to the text. Lesson two requires images from the text, however, due to copyright reasons, I am unable to include these. I will try to add a PDF link to them for a free download in my shop.
